2001 chevy Silverado abs not working properly. Had brakes replaced now brake light will not go out. Brakes pull to the right when applied and take along time to come to a stop. Afraid of getting into an accident due to failure of brakes stopping truck. Sometimes they do not want to work at all. Something needs to be done about this on going problem before someone gets seriously hurt.
My vehicle, a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado truck, k1500, has had the anti-lock brake light coming off and on for several weeks. On 70-07-05 I took it to a chevy dealer who said it needed a new anti-lock sensor. Now I read where this model has been recalled, but not in my state! I did not spend the $500. 00 to have a new sensor put in and now feel that because gm knows it is defective, my vehicle should be included in the recall before I have an accident because of it. It seems only right that vehicles that exhibit the fault and the company knows about it, they should be the ones to fix it! I'd like to know what I should do now? thank you.
The consumer stated that the abs motor had broken. He then had to take the fuse out to shut the motor off. The consumer received a recall on the front wheel speed sensor for corrosion. The vehicle was taken to the and was fixed. The consumer thought that when the dealership performed the recall repair that it would fix the problem, however, the abs motor was still not working properly. The vehicle was driven for three months with the fuse out to the abs motor. The emergency brake and abs light had come came on when the consumer had taken the fuse out. A couple of months later the service engine light and service four wheel drive light had come on. The dealership said that this was not related to the abs motor. The consumer had not contacted the manufacturer. (11/29/05).
On June 17, 2005, I felt the brake pedal of my 2002 Chevrolet Silverado truck (VIN 1gcec14w62z161405) pulsate when I came to a stop at the bottom of the exit ramp from I-75. This lasted for a couple of seconds, and the truck took a couple of extra feet to stop. I had a similar problem on my 1998 chevy lumina several months ago and the abs warning light came on. That problem cost over $ 500 to repair. The lumina had 49k miles, but the truck only has 18. 5k miles. The only thing in common with these two vehicles is that I switch off on driving them, sometimes letting one or the other stay parked for a week or two, depending on what kind of work I am doing. This time, with the Silverado, no abs or brake warning lights ever came on, so I assumed that the system had just detected some minor sliding of one of the wheels as I was coming to a stop, possibly from some loose gravel or rocks. Later that day, I decided to stop at the local home depot, on my way home from work. When I pulled into a parking spot, I pushed on the brake pedal and could hear the abs pump (?) working very hard. The brake pedal would not move at all, and the brake system did not seem to be stopping any of the wheels. I only had a fraction of a second to react, so I threw the transmission into reverse. This stopped the forward motion of the truck, and I put it into park, before it could move any more. I ended up stopped about a foot from the rear bumper of the car in the space ahead of me. If a pedestrian had run out in front of me earlier, and I had been unable to stop, they might have been killed. Through all this, none of the abs, brake, or check engine warning lights ever came on. I do not think that a vehicle with this low mileage should have such a potentially fatal problem, and the abs components should not corrode, as they did in the lumina, and possibly in the Silverado, if the vehicle is not driven regularly. I am extremely fortunate that no one was injured or killed.
Very difficult to apply brakes with vehicle speed between 5 and 10 mph. Pedal was extremely difficult to push. Trying to apply brakes a buzzing noise is heard from the front of the vehicle. Using both feet to push the brake pedal was able to stop vehicle. No abs or brake warning lights were illuminated. Incidents happened on the road as vehicle slowed in traffic.
Chevrolet Silverado 2004, premature failure of brake system. While driving the abs light and brake light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the consumer that a new abs brake module needed to be installed because the current on shorted out. The dealer also rplaced the electronic brake control module.

Anti lock brakes activated at speeds of 5-10 mph, causing extended stopping distance. Brakes failed about 50% of the time. First began in November 2004, and problem became worse. No brake lights came on. Happened under any weather conditions. Vehicle was regularly serviced and service records were available.
The abs brake system light on my 1999 Silverado comes on intermittedly. The dealer advised me that the 1999 had a problem with the abs pumps and gm refuses to recall, they stated this repair costs over 1000 dollars to fix. The brakes are mushy on this truck since new and the service manager stated "the brakes suck on 99's". Many web sites have complaints posted about the abs system yet gm apparently is ignoring this problem. The dealer advises the only solution to the cost of replacement is to remove the fuse and disable the abs. Why is this not a recall?.
In June, 2004, mr. Wold began experiencing mechanical problems his 2004 chevy Silverado truck. To begin with, the abs brake light in the new Silverado came on and intermittently stayed on. In July of 2004, mr. Wold took truck for servicing at riverside auto center in bonners ferry, idaho for investigation of this problem with no success. In early December 2004, the abs light continued to come on and the brakes were now not functioning properly. The first time that the brakes on the truck failed, mr. Wold was exiting his driveway. Fortunately, the surface was fairly flat and mr. Wold was able to coast to a stop. After examining the truck for any outward signs of brake failure, mr. Wold took the vehicle in for servicing. The second time that the brakes failed on the 2004 Silverado, the situation was a serious threat to life and property. Mr. Wold was pulling a four (4) horse trailer and coming down a hill towards the town of bonners ferry. The speed limit on this particular grade decreases from 60 to 45 and then again, to 35. As mr. Wold began to brake from 45 to 35, once again the brake pedal was pushed all the way to the floor and there was no response. Luckily, it was a Sunday afternoon and there was little traffic on the road. As mr. Wold frantically rolled through a bypass through the town of bonners ferry, he attempted to engage the brakes again, and fortunately, they engaged after he had illegally and unsafely rolled through the middle of a bypass through town. Again, mr. Wold took the vehicle in for servicing and repair. The last, frightening episode of brake failure occurred in the evening, after mr. Wold was driving home from work. Again, as he decelerated and lightly applied his brakes while coming into town, the brakes were non responsive. After this last episode, mr. Wold doubted the safety of the brakes on his new truck and feared that the brakes would not function properly and kill him or somebody else.
Abs & brake lights come on intermittently. Took to dealer to have checked but lights were not on at the time. They did not even get in and test drive. I was told its a common problem caused by the abs modules and that its not a safety issue. People are driving around with brake warning lights illuminated and they are lead to believe they dont have a safety issue.
When coming to a stop at slow speeds (less than 3 mph) my anti-lock breaks activate and increase my stopping distance. This has resulted in near accidents in parking lots and in almost causing the vehicle to hit the closed garage door of my house. The condition occurs repeatedly (everytime) on all types of surfaces including dry smooth pavement. No service lights or brake warning lights were illuminated. To correct this problem at minimum expense I have pulled the abs fuse to inactivate the abs system. The problem has never reoccurred with the abs fuse removed. Neither general motors or its dealerships have been contacted with this problem since it occurred outside of the warranty period.
While braking from 55 mph the brake pedal became hard and the vehicle would not stop. The abs brake light also illuminated on the dash. The consumer was able to pull over to the shoulder and stop the vehicle by pulling up the emergency brakes. The driver had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. (bernard fearron-service manager).
Abs wheel speed sensors 1999 Chevrolet Silverado - abs kicks in when slowing to low speed (no abs or brake lights come on). Very dangerous! you have no control of the vehicle when this happens. I called several local Chevrolet dealerships about this problem and they are so familiar with the problem that they can tell you right away how long it will take to fix and how much it will cost (just by me telling them what the vehicle is doing). I was pulling into a parking lot, going less than 5 mph and the truck did not stop, I bounced off of the curb - due to the abs kicking in when it did not need to. If I was slowing for traffic, I have no doubt that I would have hit the person in front of me! this is a very common problem (I have since researched this problem on the internet) and a serious one - this needs addressed by Chevrolet as soon as possible. My truck only has 57,000 miles on it - the cost of repair will cost up to $800 or more. The truck is unsafe to drive. Any response to this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Brakes fail at low speed, try to go into anti-lock. Changed complete brakes, rotors, pads etc. On all four(4) wheels of the vehicle. Problem still exists. Scheduled for recheck September 30/03 for review of hoses and lines also will put on computor for fault readings. Truck crashed into a wood pile at our summer home no personnal injuries but some paint scratching. Disconnected the fuse for the anti-lock brakes had no problem with brakes failing just that abs light and hand brake light stayed on all the time. Put the fuse back in and problem still exists this is why it will be rechecked September 30/03 to read faults as they are still failing. Very scarey when all of a sudden no brakes at low speed.
My father-in-law pulled up at work. He turned the truck off and he heard a noise under the truck near the drivers door. He looked under the truck to see what was making the noise and found the abs pump still running. He had the mechanic at the job site look at it and he disconnected the pump. The abs light as well as the brake light came on but the truck was drivable. He told me about it and I did some research and found that it is a very large problem! Chevrolet is refusing to recall the part and putting the general public in danger. If the abs fails during bad road conditions everyone is at risk. The occupants and the other drivers on the road. This needs to be put into a force recall by the NHTSA for the safety of the general public. There should not have to be deaths on the road before safety issues are addressed. Please act swiftly in this matter before the deaths start showing up from this issue.
Abs light and brake light stay lit in on my 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (VIN 2gcec19v9x1142136). I brought the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer to have it serviced. The dealer told me it was the abs motor is misaligned and is burnt out and would cost in excess of $1,000 to fix. Also, that he has seen this problem a lot. For a quick fix he told me I can remove the fuse to the abs. He told me he could not do it because it was a "safety issue. " I had no choice since I did not have the money to fix it. But recently I notice there was a recall on the 2000 models (NHTSA campaign id#: 00v055000). Since the 1999 model was release toward the end of 1999 and uses the same part as the 2000 model, it only seems logical the recall should extend also for the 1999 models. I brought this point up to the dealer, but they said they are very specific to servicing vehicle recalls and my vehicle did not qualify. I fear if this problem is not recalled, many trucks with this faulty braking system is a serious safety concern. I have had this problem for about 1 year. Please help. Thank you. Was informed that it was the braking module, and parts and labor would be $1200. Was notified this is only covered under 36k warranty. Read the manual and figured out which fuse to pull to disable the module. Abs light remains on as well as the parking brake light.
