Chevrolet Silverado owners have reported 12 problems related to engine burning oil (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have now had my chevy 2013 Silverado in for oil consumption tests for the last 3 months and it has failed them. When I first brought it in I was told that they would replace the piston rings. When it finally failed they are now saying the are only replacing the head gasket and the rocker arms. Neither one of these have anything to do with my truck burning oil. This is the second vehicle I have owned that has has issues burning oil the first one they told me that it was normal for it to burn oil. They need to do what they originally told me and replace the piston rings. What happens if this engine goes while I am going down the highway.

My dash is cracking around the passenger airbag and above the instrument cluster. I am concerned that the cracked areas could come loose and become a projectile. The engine is also burning oil badly and could shut down while driving.

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle idled irregularly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that piston number 7 would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The manufacturer was notified but they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 7,496 and the current mileage was 10,000. Updated 03/28/lj on 01/11/13, the consumer took the vehicle to a closer a dealership and they ran a diagnostic test and found code p0300 misfire #7 cylinder (0322-6579). They installed a new plug in # 7 cylinder and installed a new valve cover and performed an oil consumption test. The truck stared running rough again, so the consumer returned to the dealer on 01/23/13. They removed and replaced a piston, and replaced the valve stem seals. The consumer returned to the dealer again on 01/30/13.

Excessive oil consumption at or above 1 quart of oil per 1,000 miles. All plugs fouled out at 39,000 miles and one plug cracked. I change oil every 3,500 miles and regularly top off oil. There is no leaking oil but it is somehow vaporizing rapidly. There was no reason for the vehicle to fail like this at this stage in its life. Chevy has come to state in a bulletin concerning a tweak to the valve covers to keep the oil from vaporizing. Chevy has even more recently come out with a recall as of 1/17/2012 to announce there is a legitimate issue with the oil consumption on this model chevy. This is unacceptable and gm should pay for any current damage to the truck, worn parts and all.

Vehicle was consuming oil. Engine was making tapping noises. Gauage would always be under normal level. No oil leakage was found on the ground. Dealer would not honor manufacturer's warranty because it was normal for vehicle to burn a quart of oil. Only if it burned a quart of oil would mechanic inspect vehicle.
