Silverado power steering failure.
At slow speed the power steering fails. This failure is sporadic, but does happen often. The steering wheel becomes as hard to turn as when the engine is off with no power boost at all. This is dangerous as the only option is to stop abruptly. Chevrolet recently issued a recall for repair on some car models for the same complaint, however my truck was not included.

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving 5-10 mph, the steering wheel locked during left and right turns. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the power steering pump failed and needed to be replaced at the cost of $350. The power steering pump was replaced, but the failure persisted. The dealer then stated that the cause of the failure was the power steering box; however, it has not yet been replaced. The manufacturer is waiting for a diagnostic from the dealer to determine the true cause of the failure. The current mileage was 50,000 and failure mileage was 49,500. Dt:
the steering is difficult to steer when making left turns at low speed. Took to a dealer for this problem and the dealer thought this to be a power steering pump failure. The pump was replaced and steering gearbox as well. Dealer said the gearbox would have to be replaced to correct this failure. No problems since the repair. The steering gear box had been repair before per a service bulletin.
