Consumer complained about steering column problem. Consumer took vehicle to Chevrolet dealership, and was told that this problem was not a safety issue. Manufacturer insisted that consumer had to repair the problem and send in the bill, and they may consider it. Meanwhile, the problem recurred, and nothing was being done about it. The front end and steering column knocked at 21000 miles. The dealer filled the column with grease which corrected the problem until the vehicle was out of warranty. The consumer indicated that it sounded like the front end was falling apart. The dealer indicated that a new joint for the steering column is necessary.

While making a right turn a loud knocking noise was heard coming from the steering column. Consumer drove vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that steering column needed to be replaced due to a worn out shaft, and lack of steering column lubrication. Consumer informed the mechanic that the problem recurred.
Truck had less then 25,000 miles when I noticed a 'loose feeling' in the steering when making turns and a discernible bumping. I found that there is a TSB on it(chevy TSB 00-02-35-003a) and had it fixed under warranty- but from doing research I've found that this fix is a 'band-aid' and they really should replace the intermediate steering shaft with an improved model. Concern: very distracting and concerned that it might make me ignore a more serious problem- such as 'loose lug nuts' or something else in the future (thinking it is just the same problem recurring when it is really a more serious problem).
While driving steering mechanism made popping and clicking noises. Consumer was very concerned. Took the vehicle to the dealer, but problem recurred.
Vehicle began making a clunking noise that could be felt within the steering wheel and steering column. Eventually became a rattle so bad that it was taken to a mechanic who informed us that there was a technical bulletin issued on this problem. #00-02-35-003c. Vehicle was taken to local gm dealership for repairs. It was stated on the n/c invoice that the solution was 'repack steering shaft with grease kit' part #26098419, vehicle had 6,941 miles on the odometer. Vehicle was fine for some time, but began to experience the same issue again. Local dealership was called and we were informed that there was nothing else that could be done. Vehicle now has just over 20,000 miles and is still making this noise and the feeling in the steering column is very bad. Feels as if something is going to fall apart at any moment. We have received no further information regarding this situation and will now try to contact gm to find out if a solution to this issue has been found. It actually feels 'dangerous', like the steering is not 'sure' and very loose and sloppy. We had a front end alignment performed just a month ago but that did not improve this issue. Obviously it is the steering shaft problem again. I feel this should be investigated to find out if indeed there is no safety risk.
A very noticeable clunk in the front end when turning right or left. Can be felt through the steering wheel and on the floor. This problem has exsisted for over 15,000 miles. Dealer put an extra heavy grease in steering shaft. Only lasted for about 2,000 miles. Several more grease attempts. No improvement. At 35,900 miles new front shocks. Problem is still present. I am concerned as to what may come next. Loss of steering? truck is now out of warranty and I am apparently on my own.
There is a loose feeling and knocking in the left front tire, or suspension area, the knock is transmitting through the steering column.
When turning the steering wheel a loud rattling noise from the front end is produced. The cause has yet to be determined. Please provide additional information.
Annoying steering noise inside vehicle at steering column only to the left at slow speeds. Slower speed = louder noise.
Loud clunking noise under the hood and vibration coming up the steering coloum. Trailer running lights keeps blowing fuses. Clunking on stop or or when accelerating.
When driving at any speed the steering wheel gets loose. If I'm on a road with a curve and I have pressure on the steering wheel to the right let's say or left the steering wheel would suddenly loosen up and quickly turn in the direction of the pressure I'm applying. As if opening a jar. It gets that loose. I almost hit a couple of parked cars because of this. The only reason we found out about what the problem was is we overheard a chevy owner showing someone the part he had to change. This was after we had the front end done to no avail. This guy had thousands of dollars worth of front end work done at three different chevy dealers to no avail. Our part cost $50 and the labor was $100. I've talked to tahoe owners and rode in their vehicles and they all have the same problem as I did. We had to tell them what the fix was. Pretty lame seeing the dealers don't even know. If chevy would at least tell their mechanics if they won't recall. By the way the part is a evo sensor and it raps around the steering column inside the vehicle right above the brake pedal. We would have changed it ourselves but you have to fool with the airbag, so we paid someone to do it. Also, this problem occurred hundreds of times before we fixed it. There wasn't just one incident date as you made me fill out on your form. Thank-you.
