Steering Tie Rod Assembly Problems of Chevrolet Silverado

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) we have a 2006 Silverado Chevrolet truck [xxx] . There has been a squeaking in the steering-wheel column, and the car is becoming increasingly difficult to steer. A mechanic found that the inner tie rods need to be replaced and a part of the steering column needs to be replaced. A local dealership says, "there is no recall" even though there was an earlier recall on Chevrolet-truck steering systems. The manufacturer instructed us to get in touch with you. Tie rod came apart causing me to lose control of the truck. Truck veered into path of car causing collision.

I was backing out of the parking spot I had been all day at work and the passanger front wheel would not straighten out. I could not pull forward or backward, I was stuck in the center of the parking lot. Then have it towed to a repair shop to have it looked at. The tie rod had stripped and come off. The repair person told me that the driver front also was stripped and would have soon failed as well. They were both replaced and the truck was aligned. This was an unexpected expense, there was no indication by myself or my husband that anything was loose or coming apart. I was one block away from getting on the interstate to go home. As I understand it I could have lost control of my truck had the tie rod failed while I was driving.

While driving at low speed front driver's side tie rod snapped, causing vehicle to hit a tree. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

While parking vehicle pulled sideways. Driver lost control of vehicle, and it crashed into a tree. No injuries reported. Dealer stated that tie rod separated.

Right front tie rod separated from the steering control arm, resulting in loss of control of truck.

There is a rattling noise coming from steering while the consumer is driving. Contacted dealer ,and dealer replaced a part, but that did not remedy the problem.
