1 Underhood Wiring problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/22/2007

Truck cut out while on the freeway; able to get it restarted. Later while trying to get home it stalled in the middle of an intersection. Chevy service dealer knew exactly what it was-- he told me it was due to a broken wire primary at coil connector. That this happens all the time. Part was replaced at a cost of $141. 37. If this part is defective why is not recalled?.

2 Underhood Wiring problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/30/2005

While driving she was experiencing hesitation, hit pothole and had to be towed home. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the factory wiring inside the fuel tank to the fuel pump was burned up at the connector, only bear wiring was present in the fuel tank. Fearful this may catch fire. Hardwired this feature per owner who is also mechanic. Appeared to be faulty wiring, definitely 4 pin connector at the top of that wire assembly. No other problems.

3 Underhood Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/15/2004

During normal driving conditions (fair weather, city driving) my pick-up died in the middle of traffic just after completing a left turn and shifting into second gear. I was in the left lane and managed to let it coast into a little used left turn lane. I had it towed to my local dealership (fisher Chevrolet, boulder, colorado), where they informed me that a wiring harness was routed past the exhaust manifold and had melted and caused a grounded crank signal. ( my father also has the same year, make, and model as I do, and his pick-up has a similar wiring pattern. ) the wiring and fuses were replaced and re-routed, and the crank signal circuit was repaired.

4 Underhood Wiring problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 08/09/2003

Cycling switch on a/c are no good. Had switch replaced on 08/09/03 and mechanic at dealer stated ac delco is putting out faulty switches. The switch he used to replace my faulty switch was also no good; he replaced it with another switch. It work for the 7 mile ride home. But on sun. 08/10/03 the problem was right back. The problem is every time you hit any kind on bump in the road the switch turns off the a/c, until the computer realizes the a/c is turned on, but the compressor is not running and it turns it on again. Until you hit another bump in the road. The mechanic demonstrated this to me buy tapping gentle on the switch and it turns the compressor off and tap again and it turns it back on. It also stated that all the Chevrolet trucks are having this problem.

5 Underhood Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/25/2002

The dashboard in the truck caught on fire. We were able to extinguish the fire before extensive damage was done. The gm dealership determined that the cause of the fire was the wiring harness under the hood. We reported this to gm, and they said that they had no other reports and were not going to do anything about it because of the age of the vehicle. I looked on the NHTSA site and found 52 pages of other Chevrolet trucks with similar problems from 1996 to 2002. I believe someone could get seriously hurt or killed if this were to happen while driving. We were fortunate that we were able to put the fire out. Gm will not even investigate this problem, our extended warranty isn't worth the paper it is written on and our insurance company will only pay for ensuing damage. I think someone with some authoriy should contact gm since this is an obvious defect in design. Michael butori.
