37 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/10/2009

When rotating my tires at 29,000 miles, I inspected the front disc brakes on my truck. I noticed that ton both front wheels. The disc brake pads were only touching the rotors in an area of 1/2" on the inside of the rotors. I took the truck to the dealer and they said it wasn't covered by the warranty because it had more than 25000 miles. I had to replace the rotors and brake pads at my own expense of $400.

40 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

I have had constant brake problems with rotors rusting. I have been told this is due to not driving my truck enough, that it sits too much. It's drove about 180 miles a week. This is both front and rear. For Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4x4 2004. Have had problems since it was under warranty. Since day one of owning the truck. Contacted gm and they said they would not cover. Now gm wants $904. 00 to replace rotors and pads. Had the vehicle in while under warranty and they just cleaned them. Second time I complained I had 23,800 miles on the truck, over warranty time/ under mileage.

45 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/14/2008

The front right inner brake pad has been prematurely wearing compared to the other pads. Local Chevrolet dealer has been asked to adjust pads under warranty. Tech said that the vehicle can not be adjusted and that they are wearing within "normal" time. Brake pads are not lasting more than 7 months at a time due to inner pad wearing down to the metal backing while the other pads still have 3/4 of their life left. The front pads have been replaced approximately four times in three years. The front rotors had to be replaced twice in the same amount of time due to the same issue.

46 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/16/2007

Severe corrosion/rust on all 4 in board side brake rotors, which caused in board disc pads to wear out (to the metal). Mileage 19,680. Had to replace pads and rotors on all wheels.

47 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/21/2006

: the contact stated while braking from various speeds, the anti-lock brake system did not engage and the brake pedal went almost all the way to the floor of the vehicle. This caused an extended stopping distance and nearly caused a crash. There was a NHTSA recall #05v379000 which pertains to the hydraulic anti-lock service brakes. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. The pcv valve and fuel filter were replaced. The rear brake pads were replaced and the rotors were machined, the rotors were eventually replaced, there was noise coming from the front end. The intermediate steering shaft was dry. 48 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 10/25/2006

- the contact stated that on 10/25/05, he took vehicle to the dealership for a free oil change. He received a repair order and didn't pay attention to the order and folded it up and put away in glove box. The contact stated that on 12/23/06 a mechanic looked at the vehicle and told the contact that the brake rotors were rusted and chewed up and the pads were gone. When he looked over the repair order from 10/25/06 he found that they noted on the repair order that the rotors were rusted at that time. The contact called the manufacturer, and was given file # 71-461701161. The manufacturer contacted dealership and informed them that they must resurface the rotors. The parts and labor would be the contacts responsibility. The contact felt that with such low mileage on the vehicle brakes should not be repaired so soon. Updated 02/09/07.

51 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/30/2004

I own a 2000 chevy silverado ext. Cab. I'm retired and drive the truck about 1000 miles a year or so. In January 2004 to pass the new york state inspection I needed to have the entire rear axle brake assembly from the axle bearing's out replaced. At the time I had between 6000 and 7000 miles on the truck. The cost was almost $800. 00 now on may 4 2012 with 23,400 miles on the truck, I needed to have the front brake rotors and pads replaced, cost approximately $400. 00! I had both repairs done by a qualified ace mechanic, who also is a friend of the family so he can be trusted! I also want to add there is not a speck of rust on any of the body panels, and the under carriage is rinsed frequently. This truck is well taken care of.

52 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/10/2003

Every time when coming to a stop the brake pedal goes soft have to press real hard to get truck to stop. This has been going on from when brand new, I thought that was the way gm brakes felt. I am the original owner, truck has 27,000 miles, and brakes were replaced at12,000 miles. I am an ase mechanic and its not the brake pads or rotors. I have driven a 03 3500 truck with same problem.

53 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/15/2003

Inboard disc brake pads both front and rear quickly lose contact with brake rotor after replacement - I have been plagued with poor performing brakes since purchase. The inboard brake pad does not self adjust to maintain contact with the rotor. Instead it seizes in its stainless steel anti-rattle guides. Sometimes it cocks to one side, sometimes it is parallel to the rotor. This causes several problems - first lost of brake performance with long stopping distances because the seized pad is ineffective-this is a safety issue, second the seized pad does not clean the rotor surface causing premature rusting and short rotor life. My rotors need replacing every year or two because of rust on the inboard surface. I have gone through the four original rotors and 12 replacement rotors in 47000 miles and six years since new.

54 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/26/2001

The failure mileage was 61,023. The brake shoes and pads have been replaced on several occasions ,and the failure recurred. The current mileage was 62,000. The abs activated without cause.
