I test drove a 2026 Silverado 1500 at hanania Chevrolet in saint augustine florida on [xxx]. Before the test drive, I advised the salesperson in the rear seat that the service brake assist light was on at the instrument panel. He advised that the light needed to be reset and he would have it taken care of. I returned to the showroom to complete the required paper work and the vehicle was cleaned and returned in front of the showroom. I drove the vehicle on [xxx] after driving a short distance the "service brake assist" light again came on. I notified the service department on 6/1/2026 and drove the vehicle back to the dealership. The service advisor indicated he was going to have his best technician repair the vehicle. I arrived at12:33 and the vehicle was completed at 12:56 pm I drove the vehicle back to my home without any issues. I left my home on [xxx] and as I turned onto the interstate highway, the light came on once again. After researching this issue, it is not advisable to drive the vehicle as the antilock braking system will not operate correctly. This vehicle should not have been available for any prospective customer to drive on the highway until the issue is corrected. The sales person should have verified that the brake issue was properly repaired before offering anyone a road test in the vehicle. The vehicle is currently at the dealership. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the message "service brake assist" was illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the message was reset on several occasions. Additionally, the dealer determined that the failure was possibly due to a low voltage issue, and the vehicle was operating as designed. The contact stated that the failure had recurred. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that a towing agent would towed the vehicle to their location. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 85.
While driving my 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trail boss, multiple warning lights and messages suddenly appeared related to the abs and brake system. The brake pedal became extremely difficult to press and the truck became unsafe to drive. The issue happened unexpectedly while the vehicle was in operation, creating a serious safety hazard and risk of accident or injury. After the incident, the truck was inspected by a mechanic who advised that the brake booster had essentially fallen apart and that I effectively had little to no braking capability. I was also informed that the condition and quality of the braking components were not acceptable for a vehicle of this age. This vehicle is only five years old and has been regularly maintained. For approximately the last three years, routine maintenance including oil changes, tire rotations, and inspections were performed at a Chevrolet dealership. At no time was I warned of any brake-related issue or safety concern. A major brake system failure should not occur suddenly on a properly maintained vehicle, especially without warning. This incident was extremely dangerous and could have resulted in a serious crash. I am submitting this complaint because I am concerned there may be a defect involving the brake system, brake booster, abs system, or related components on this vehicle.

While driving my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the brakes unexpectedly locked up and multiple warning messages appeared at the same time, including “service esc. ” there were no warning lights, messages, or symptoms before the incident. The problem occurred without warning while the vehicle was being driven normally. The sudden brake application made the vehicle difficult to control and created a significant safety risk because it could have caused a loss of control or a collision with other vehicles. The vehicle is available for inspection. At the time of this report, the exact cause of the failure is unknown.

I am writing regarding an ongoing and serious issue with my 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 rst 2. 7l that continues to occur despite multiple visits to the dealership. Recently, as I was leaving my house, I entered my truck and started the vehicle as normal. Immediately after startup, approximately eight warning lights and system failure messages appeared on the dashboard simultaneously. The warnings included the check engine light, abs warning, brake system failure, service steering column lock, service traction control, service esc, service brake pad monitor, and trailer brake disabled warnings. At that point, the truck became undriveable. Although I was able to shift gears, the vehicle would not move properly in either drive or reverse. Due to the severity of the issue, I turned the truck off and left it parked overnight. The following day, all warning lights and messages had disappeared completely. This situation is extremely concerning because the vehicle appears to fail randomly without warning. I no longer feel safe driving the truck, especially with my children in the vehicle, because I fear it could stop functioning again at any time and potentially create a dangerous situation. I have already taken the truck to the dealership multiple times regarding this issue. However, I have repeatedly been told that they cannot properly diagnose or repair the problem unless the warning lights are actively present at the time of inspection. Since the issue is intermittent, this has made it very difficult to get the truck repaired, even though the problem clearly continues to occur. I am requesting that this matter be taken seriously and investigated further, and because this is a new truck that barely has 7,833 miles on it. As this appears to involve critical safety systems including braking, traction control, steering, and vehicle drivability. I depend on this truck daily and need a permanent resolution to this problem as soon as possible.
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle at approximately 40 mph, every single warning light illuminated on the dashboard. Concurrently, the vehicle was unable to decelerate or brake, and the brakes became completely non-operational. The vehicle was towed to a dealer but has not been diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,800.

2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 safety issue summary: I am filing a complaint regarding critical safety defects with my vehicle. The truck displayed warning messages for traction control service and brake system failure on the instrument panel while parked in my driveway, prior to the vehicle becoming inoperable, I experienced dangerous driving conditions including swerving similar to hydroplaning on two separate occasions. Details: the vehicle was picked up on a flatbed on may 11th, 2026 because it would not start or run. When I drove it before this incident, I experienced the vehicle swerving dangerously similar to hydroplaning on two different occasions 5/1/26 and 5/9/26. Upon inspection, warning messages appeared on the dashboard indicating traction control system service and brake system failure. These are critical safety systems. Chevrolet he dealership in wichita falls, texas performed a diagnostic and claimed to find only a dead battery and parasitic draw. They refuse to address the traction control or brake system failures and claim they cannot duplicate the issues. They are pressuring me to accept the vehicle without written confirmation that these safety systems have been repaired. Safety risk: a vehicle with non-functioning traction control and brake system failures is unsafe to operate. I cannot accept this vehicle until these critical systems are properly diagnosed and repaired. Than you for your help in this matter.
Loud ticking noise and power loss. Transmission shift slips from 2nd to 3rd . Called factory and dealership for check up. Said no problem… told to change oil. Did this, no change.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet silverado1500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, four different warning lights illuminated: abs, service brake assist, service esc, and two specific "brake system failure" messages limiting the top speed to 42 mph and 62 mph, suddenly the vehicle went into limp mode and had to be towed. The vehicle will be taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 114,264.

Two grounding straps failed on my 2021 silverado trail boss lt. Gm has a recall for this exact problem under n252515590, model years 2019-2024. Apparently my VIN number is not associated with this recall, yet my dealer just did the recall repair. They said my truck did not qualify for the gm recall and I was forced to pay for the repair. The failing grounding straps caused my power steering to go out and my brake system and safety traffic sensors to fail as well. This was very dangerous as it would fail randomly while driving the truck. There were no warning signs or lights on the the truck to indicate any problems.
There is an open recall but my truck is not listed. I was driving around today and my front brakes are not fully releasing. Brakes are hot and do not feel comfortable driving with this issue. Call my local dealership and gm customer service and both say I am out of luck. The recall is a faulty vacuum pump and or an update of the electronic brake control module software. This also happened a few weeks ago in occasion but today was all day. Thanks.

On 4/09/26, while visiting friends near the border in [xxx] from [xxx] and driving on a dry paved road we lost the ability to stop the truck and engage the brake system. To avoid a crash, I drove the truck up onto the sidewalk and closed my eyes. Fortunately we did not crash into stopped cars but the truck does not work and it has body damage to all sides. Now when the key is in forward collision system unavailable, service traction control and service esc shows on dash. Truck is unsafe and a hazard on the road. A call to gm has been made waiting on a response. Gm case#xxx. Truck is 2023 with 62k miles. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The brake pedal goes hard and you have to slam on the brakes, to get the truck to stop. The brake assist is not working. On 10/30/2020 I took the truck in for the recall and they reprogrammed the ecm the problem stopped. Well there was second recall, but the brake system was functioning. The brake system is now not functioning, and they are telling me the recall is expired, even though I took my truck in for the first recall to have it fixed.
On 3/30/2026, I was driving down the road & suddenly my dash filled with warning lights about brakes, abs etc. Steering the vehicle became almost impossible because power steering was gone. When I attempted to brake, I also found that I had very little braking. The vehicle has 11,036 miles. Got the vehicle to the dealership - capital Chevrolet from which it was purchased. It has been diagnosed as a major brake failure. Master cylinder, booster, reservoir, seals etc. Extremely dangerous situation without any early warning signs, lights or notices.
My son was driving his 2020 silverado trail boss (50,000 miles) when suddenly the brakes were inoperative. He had to drive around several cars to avoid collision finally swerving into the parking lane and using the gearshift lever moving the transmission into park to stop forward movement. He had no warning lights or any indication the brakes were going to fail. The truck was towed to harbor Chevrolet on long beach, CA. They diagnosed the problem as a “software update” and this was “rare”. They seemed along with gm customer service seemed not to be very concerned about the problem and just gave me some gm reward points. We are afraid to drive the car at this point.
Started to work first thing in the morning, the truck felt sluggish-like a lack of power. I drove about a mile to turn around and head back home, something was obviously wrong. When I got out of the truck there was a smell like something was hot and the wheels were extremely hot. I realized the lack of power was due to the brakes being locked. The parking brake was not engaged. After calling the local dealer for an appointment, I had to get the truck towed. Now the 2nd day at the dealer with no diagnosis, no service codes. The truck has approximately 77,000 miles with the original brakes from the factory and have never had to be replaced. The vehicle data display shows 42% of brake wear remaining.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal became inoperable. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the brake pedal failed to function properly and felt spongy while attempting to depress the brake pedal. The contact stated that the vehicle had previously received a brake system software update under an unknown recall, which was completed by the dealer. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the brake system software update might be performed another time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 175,446.
Parking brake pad failure has occurred twice. Last month at 31,668 mi, truck was taken in for servicing a warning light due to tpm failure (all replaced), and I asked for parking brake inspection because I was pushing pedal to the floor in order to engage. Mechanic said "left rear prkg brake shoe has section missing. " he had never seen that before and I exclaimed that it happened first in Apr 2021 at 18,770 mi. I am not sure which side it was since it was not written on the service invoice, but I suspect the right side because during a Nov 2021 oil change the invoice included "adjusted rear rh parking brake. " oem replacement pads were installed both times. I have the latest failed pad which shows about 2 in of material missing from the shoe substrate, not the 2021. Kearny mesa chevy repaired this in 2021; walt's danville service in 2026. No safety issue, but could have been a problem in event of brake failure an need to stop vehicle by applying parking brake that would not hold. I asked kmchevy if this should be a warranty repair or a recall issue and they refused to consider in 2021. It cannot be coincidence that this happened to chevy oem equipment, I suspect to both sides. I paid ~$500 each time and feel that chevy corporate should compensate me.

Intermittent issue where info says brake failure/steering assist not working/limited speed to 43 mph. Very dangerous if you’re on the interstate. Becomes hard to steer, brakes don’t work, brakes start burning up. Have to carry tools with me to reset ecm. Very common problem with silverado with 5. 3 gas engine. Chevy needs to fix this issue before someone gets killed. I would give them my truck back if I could.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 10 mph and depressing the brake while turning, the abs warning light illuminated, and the brake pedal remained on the floorboard. The vehicle was pulled into a parking lot and was able to come to a full stop. The contact's wife inspected the vehicle and used a handheld diagnostic machine to retrieve an undisclosed dtc; however, the codes were cleared. The vehicle was then taken to the residence. On another occasion, while the vehicle was in reverse(r), the abs warning light illuminated, and the brake pedal remained pressed to the floorboard. The contact used the handheld diagnostic machine to retrieve and clear the codes. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and it was determined that an abs update was needed. The vehicle was not repaired, and the contact had not yet taken possession of the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle started shaking abnormally. The service electronic stability control (esc) warning light, parking brake warning light, a wrench warning symbol, and the check engine warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
The adaptive cruse control will apply the brakes driving, it happens when driving and there is nothing in my lane as far as the eye can see. Sometimes the silverado will go from 70 mph to 30-40 or less and back to 70. Most of the time it will apply the brakes for a sec and then off. One time it locked up the brakes from the low 60 ish mph to almost stoped before I could get control. Every time this happens there is no cars, or abstractions in my lane. I have had the silverado into 2 dealers for this problem about 25 times and they can not fix the problem and I have been told that they are done working on it and they can not find the problem and I will have to live with it. I don't fell safe driving it and have told that to them. I have asked many time to have a gm engineer look at my silverado and find the problem and they did nothing to resolve the problem. I need to a get this problem addressed before I cause an accident or am in one. I also have many other problems that they cannot resolve, the blind spot mirrors light will go off all the time with nothing there or a car will pass on the left side and both the left and right mirror lights will go off. The bluetooth will disconnect from the silverado and the person I am talking to can hear me just fine and the call is no longer over the speakers in the silverado it is on the ear piece of my phone and then will go back to the speakers on the silverado. I will get an alarm that says "take wheel" with hands at 10 and 2 on steering wheel looking straight ahead. Get an alarm that have trailer light problem and will turn on blinker and it will flash quickly for 10 seconds and then is normal. Radio skips on fm, am, xm, mp3 player at times. The silverado has spent over 4 months and 25 times at a dealer since I bought it new and they have nor been able to resolve any of the problems and I have been told by gm that they are done working on this truck and they can not find the problems. Thank you.
I replaced rear brakes and rotors after getting brake monitor warning on 2022 Silverado 1500. I have been having problem with amount of force needed to stop truck for quite a while. The pads were not worn much at all but brake pad clips were broken on both sides of rear brakes. Rotors were rusted which looked as if rear brakes have not been contacting rotors. The brakes work significantly better now. I live in nc where rust is not serious problem. I feel there is a problem with rear brake hardware on these trucks.

Brakes applied on their own while driving. Before being able to stop the rotors both front and rear were very hot and the smell of burning brake pads was evident. Let the truck shit after getting off the side of the road for a bit. Brakes seemed to release started driving and the brakes applied themselves again. We slowly stop and go drove home a few miles on the side of the road with the flashers on.
Brake pedal was very hard to press down and was almost no response from brakes, brake assist service came on, vacuum pump failure, ot was replaced.

Master brake cylinder failed according to dealership. This however is the second time this issue has occurred. This system failure caused brakes to not respond correctly leading to risk of collision. My safety and my kid's safety was put at risk due to issue happening while vehicle was in drive. Part was initially replaced in April of 2025 and issue has occurred two more times since then in December of 2025 and February of 2026. Vehicle has been inspected by dealership multiple times but has not been fixed. Symptoms of issue included clicking sound when pressing brake pedal and becomes stiff. There were warning in the dash and lights: "brake system failure", "43mph top speed", "service esc" and "service brake system". Along with check engine light, brake light and traction control light.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving 43 mph, the message "brake failure" was displayed. The contact then lost control of the vehicle, and the vehicle drove from the right side to the left side of the road, the vehicle drove off the road and crashed into a ditch before coming to a stop. The driver had not sustained any injuries. There was no property damage. The air bags did not deploy. The check engine, the abs and several unknown warning lights were illuminated after the failure. A tow truck driver who was also a mechanic inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that the driver's side front suspension had fractured from the upper ball joint and the wheel was folded in underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was being diagnosed. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
Abs warning light came on and brakes starting acting strange. The brake pedal was soft and was hard to depress. I took it to dealer and they checked codes and comfirmed the vehicle has serval codes. They cleared all codes and started the engine. Immediately the abs warning came on. I am very concenedn about family, I just purchased the truck on Jan 21, 2026. Please help!!.
On febuary 13th 2026 I was involved in a wreck where I re-ended another stopped vehicle. There was no warning light or automated braking executed. I braked hard but not soon enough. There was no malfunction warnings or lights displayed before (or after ) the accident showing it to be inoperative. It has been in to the dealer 3 times since. Yes it is available for inspection. Was told that it will not work if you have your foot on brake or accelerator by one technician. This truck use to brake for no reason even going 70 mph on highway. I am pretty sure gm has reprogramed to fix that issue leaving the sensitivitu so low it now does not work at all.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while approaching a stop sign, the brake pedal was depressed but traveled down to the floorboard, and the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The vehicle eventually came to a stop. No warning lights were illuminated. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake vacuum pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who confirmed that the vacuum pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. Upon investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). However, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 187,000.
Driving the truck, a nut fell against my foot. I pulled over and looked underneath to where this nut could have come from. I realized that the brake pedal was very loose. I did a google search to see what break pedal nut could have loosened and fallen off. I identified that there was a recall for the brake pedal pivot nut on these trucks. From that, I looked up to that section and found that the nut did indeed come from that part. I called the local Chevrolet dealership and they informed me that my VIN number was not part of that recall list. It is obvious that general motors left the numbers off of that recall for vehicles that are still being affected by that problem. I called general motors customer service and spoke to brandy at customer service and she was not willing to help and only told me to contact this government agency. In order to prevent fatalities of innocent lives, I am reporting this.
Brakes lock down at approximately 45 miles per hour.
Brakes lock up on vehicle while driving must turn vehicle off and restart several times to disengage brakes. This has happened twice in the last 8 weeks, very concerning as we cannot use our travel trailer as we do not trust this not reoccurring. Chevy dealership says there is a recall on this issue but not on my truck?. But they say it is that problem.
Note-we are visiting DE, but reside in virginia. I recently experienced problems with my "wheel speed sensor system" on my 2014 chevy silverado, lt, 5. 3l v8 4wd, crew cab. My local garage in DE (our condo is in DE- our home-residence is virginia) looked at the vehicle and said I was having a problem with the wheel speed sensors partially locking up my brakes and causing a drag when driving. The garage in newark, DE- littles garage told me that their system said there was a recall on my vehicle and that I'd need to have service done at a Chevrolet dealership at no cost. I went to 2 dealerships who stated my truck's VIN did not show up in their system as having any active recalls. Reading the recall notice, I see that gm contacted the dealerships directly (I guess not to make the recall public) who have/had sold this vehicle with instructions to contact owners directly; however, I purchased the vehicle in SC from a Ford dealership in 2017. Since recall # n192261050 is stated as a safety problem that could cause my truck to be a dangerous safety hazard that could cause serious damage and even death to occupants of the vehicle. I understand from my garage that the issue is intermittent once discovered, even as I have not experienced anything for about a week, and it can re-appear at any time. You can understand that I need the NHTSA to help me resolve this issue and if I am deserving of a recall fix, to help me with dealerships in DE. Nucar Chevrolet of new castle, DE has been recommended to me by littles garage as one of the best chevy dealerships. Note I am visiting DE and need to get back to virginia shortly (I'm hesitant to drive this vehicle at highway speeds). I appreciate any help to resolve these issues and to possibly help me to have a dealership in DE provide me the applicable safety fix in accordance with the subject recall.
