Failure Date: 12/20/2020

Breaks will not catch . As I'm driving and trying to stop the truck will keep rolling . This is even when driving slow . The break pedal is hard . And will not stop. I took truck in for a recall on the break system but the light sensor is still on and breaks will not catch. This is going forward backward parked or going to light . Has been happening off and on for a month.

3 Brake Sensor problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/03/2020

Steering angle sensor is faulty. This is an integral part of the vehicle safety systems, including abs, and traction/ stability control. How can this part be no longer manufactured after only 9 years? all safety controls shut off while vehicle is in motion.

4 Brake Sensor problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/05/2020

At 45,000 mi, had to replace abs hub sensor assy due to false activation. I have since replace 3 more assys costing over $400 each occurance. At 100,000 mi, had to replace a leaking brake line which had rusted through and at 120,000 mi lost all hyd pressure while braking to avoid several deer entering the roadway. Replaced all brake lines at a cost of $1200. There have been many consumer complaints on both issues, but gm will not assume responsibility for either. This is the 9th silverado I have owned over the past 40 years. Next one will be a Ford.

5 Brake Sensor problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

Drove 35 miles. Stopped ok. Backed up about 5 mph. Brake pedal would only push down about one quarter inch with no braking action. Pressed as hard as possible and got slight braking. We had it repaired at a shop and they said it was a vacuum pump and a sensor that had gone bad.

6 Brake Sensor problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/12/2018

My complaint or safety notice is that on August 12 2018 the brake pedal on my 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 began compressing a short distance and then became extremely hard, the vehicle is by all physical means nearly impossible to stop even at a very slow speed. I had my truck towed to my dealer believing it was not safe to drive, and was advised that the "brake system vacuum pump and booster had failed due to internal contamination. There is no warning in the vehicle sensing system to advise the operator to have the brakes serviced for this issue. Chevrolet issued a technical service bulletin (TSB #pit5361a & #pit5361b) in 2016. Obviously they are aware of the problem. Mine brakes failed after just pulling in my driveway from a 600 mile trip. Had this happened at highway speed, I would have likely been injured or killed, as would any vehicle occupants in a car I could have potentially hit. I have researched the problem online, and there are an endless amount of complaints posted for this exact problem. Unfortunately there has been no recall that I can find. It will cost me $1626 for the repair, I assume the replacement parts are the same type that failed. Undoubtedly someone is going to be seriously injured or killed, there are individuals and families driving around as I write this complaint that are unaware their brakes might fail the next moment they need them. Ask yourself if this has already caused serious injury or death, but the failure perhaps could not be pinpointed due to the damage of the crash, remember there is no sensor or warning for this issue being logged into the cars computer system. Odds are this has already caused harm. I'm asking that a recall be implemented and a safety warning be immediately released for vehicles that have this design flaw in the braking system. Your immediate intervention could save a life.

7 Brake Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/22/2017

I've had multiple extremely dangerous situation with this vehicle over 2 years. One of the first concern was my headlight daytime bulbs melted to the harness and the one on the passenger side melted thru the number so I started carrying a fire extinguisher behind the driver seat. But one of the most dangerous indecent happened while driving down the highway when my wheel bearing hub gave out n there is nothing else to support the tire onto the truck so my front driver tire went flying off n my truck coming to a complete stop into the ground causing damage to my self, my finder, the wheel sensor, n the driver door. After getting all that fixed I'm afraid of the other hubs giving out. Also when I hit my brakes it seems like there is air in the pedal n the truck will not stop. I don't know if it's bc the sensor got damaged or if the abs box is damage from corrosion and my emergency brake has never seem to do anything. I have replaced many of parts on this truck n when I do it seems like one thing after another.

9 Brake Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/29/2017

All brake line for entire truck had to be replaced because of rust issues, as well as rear backing plates which had rusted completely away. Abs sensors are activating at low speed on dry pavement causing truck to take longer space to stop.

10 Brake Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

Abs activates sporadically when braking at low speeds, both in forward and backward motion. This increases stopping distance dramatically. Previous recalls were issued in 2006 (clean sensors) and 2009 (replace sensors). Apparently this is a know safety issue! local dealer refuses to address this without charge and refers me to gm.

11 Brake Sensor problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/21/2017

My truck has been modififed by either a powerful entity or by the dealership itself at the direction of a powerful entity. Truck has so many problems. I bought from same dealership out of show room and trusted them. After accident, air bags did not deploy and I couldnt figure out why. See burn marks around edges of airbags along with conductive string sew into them. Also noticed extra conductors added along with extra insulator layer. Cigarette outlets all manipulated after replaced with higher output plugs. Also found air bag sensors which are discontinuted as they belong to trucks from 2007-2009. Frame is for a 1ton truck which has beengreased front to back. Axels are clearly older and are labeled for a ck2500 (1 tom) model drive shaft and many other components have markings throughout to establish path of least resistance to guide short of electricity to driver to shock me. Modles modfified to gain access to truck. I am lucky to be alive. You guys have to see this truck in person. Way too uch to list. Dealership had it long time to do repairs. When taken back to them to figure out hwy the loud shakes, the dealershp certified shop tech stated everything is perfectl normal. That wa s a lie. Eewwdduuuuuuuuuuuuuefu.

12 Brake Sensor problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/17/2015

Driving slowly up to a stop sign coming out of the target store in shoreview, minnesota. The abs anti-lock brake system activated and made the truck difficult to stop. The vehicle went through the stop sign but did not collide with any oncoming traffic. According to many other incidences described online, the exact same thing is happening to others. In the northern "salt belt", rust and corrosion gathers around the front brake sensors and pulls them upwards sending the wrong signal to the computer. There is already a recall on some Chevrolet trucks pre-2005 for the very same reason. This is a very dangerous situation and preventable if gm would solve the problem once and for all.

13 Brake Sensor problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/14/2015

Abs unit on front brakes malfunctions at low speed. The abs sensors mistakenly releases brake pressure, as vehicle slows to a stop, thinking the wheel is skidding. This release of brake pressure lengthens the stopping distance, which could result in a low speed crash.

14 Brake Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

I purchased the truck from the dealer, with 230,000 miles on shortly after purchase as I braked to stop the peddle would stiffen and purr. . . And the vehicle would not stop, running intersections and parking spots. Causing near accidents. Ii learned this was related to brake antilock system. Dealer said they done the recall procedure to clean sensors and avoided any further concerne expressed. I checked with other dealers who had the same denial reaction, the initial dealer had done checks to all chasis and componant checks, I noticed a mild growl when in four wheel drive but drove well otherwise. I inspected the wheel sensors and they were clean I learned the reluctor ring which triggers the sensors are within the front wheel bearings I had one oil service done by another garage who did a 21 point check but neglected to tell me of the apparent wear. After about fifteen months the left front wheel bearing began to fail while driving causing a extreme growl, I then had it checked by a service garage who clearly idenified the evident wear on both front wheel bearings, I had the bearings both changed along with a lower ball joint along with both front axle shafts, due to mild leaking boots. This them stopped the hard peddle and brake failure when stopping. The dealer knew of the wear and ignored the danger. The dealer should not be allowed to sell a vehicle in this condition . The truck does drive well now. But I still have a very mild growl in the left front, but with the axles new the noise is coming from the drive case, only when in four wheel drive. ( while the brake problem existed I adjusted my driving practice and limited my use of vehicle. ).

15 Brake Sensor problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/09/2015

Driving on the freeway going 60 mph, the car ahead of us made a sudden, drastic slow down. As we pressed the brakes, they went to the floor and we continued to keep moving forward and stopped inches before hitting the car ahead of us. Thankfully we had at least 5 car lengths between us. Had break line repaired. Mechanic said it had rusted through. February 28, 2015 pulling into a parking lot with cars ahead of us, moving 4-5 mph. Car in front of us suddenly stops, we go to brake and heard a noise, brakes went to the floor and we hit the car in front of us. ( we were a 1/2 car length behind the car. ) due to moving at a slow speed, there was no damage other than the occupants of both cars being jerked. Took to a mechanic and abs sensors were rusted out as well as the hubs etc. . . He then told us he cannot believe the amount of rust and corrosion we have on the entire underside. He stated it looked like a 50 year old vehicle that sat in a field for years. He advised us to get the rest of the brake lines replaced as well as watch the framing etc. . For cracking. We do not feel safe anymore! this truck has been thoroughly cared for and kept washed even during winters.

16 Brake Sensor problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

I was driving home from work and a car in front of me stopped suddenly to make a turn, I pressed brake pedal firmly to avoid hitting him but did not lock up tires. When I did the pedal went to the floor and just barely missed hitting him by swerving to the right. I am a mechanic of 29 years and knew the brake system failed due to a major leak. I bought a piece of brake line and was going to repair it the next day and when I got the truck on the lift I seen massive amount of rust on all the lines and that it had multiple leaks from the panic stop. I haven't seen lines rusted like this on cars that have 3 times the mileage that my truck has. This is a major safety issue that is a known concern. All brake bleeders are rusted beyond being able to bleed the system, backing plates rusted away. Of all recalls out there and this isn't one is outrageous. This needs to be addressed sooner than later. I have been a state inspection mechanic all my life and this is the worst I have ever seen especially on a truck with 60,000 miles on it! there are tens of thousands of complaints on this issue and nothing is being done?? peoples lives are at stake and no recall but we will recall cars if a sensor might be causing a car to pollute the air. This is a $1,000- $1,500 min. Repair for the consumer. Plus the fuel lines are rusting the same way. I have been reading the same complaints on line for hours tonight and I could read for the next few weeks and don't think I'd get through all the complaints. I'm taking mine to a dealer to have it fixed just to have it documented for any future recalls or settlements of this known issue. I've worked in dealers all my life and know it has to be documented properly to get reimbursed. I hope to see something done with this issue before the next person gets injured or worse.

17 Brake Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

I have a 2001 chevy Silverado 1500 extended cab pickup truck that I purchased new. A number of years ago there was a recall for antilock brakes in rust belt states. Supposedly the sensors were dirty and needed to be cleaned. Wisconsin was initially not a rust belt state but eventually was included. Prior to its inclusion my antilock brakes were malfunctioning on a regular basis and caused three near miss accidents before I pulled the fuse to cut power to the system. After wisconsin was included I took my car in - the sensors had rusted away to non existence. They replaced the sensors. About 9 months ago the truck began to exhibit the same failures causing more near misses. I contacted gm. They refuse the repair it a second time. So I have disabled antilock brakes again. I think gm should be made to replace their sensors and they should be designing sensors that don't rust away.

18 Brake Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 10/22/2013

Total brake failure- ruptured brake line under driver door side. Fortunately this happened when I was backing out of my driveway and I was able to stop my truck using the emergency brake. The week before I had my abs sensors on the front wheels replaced because the truck would sometimes not stop at a slow speed. I am happy that this did not happen while I was towing my trailer. Rupture of this line caused a total brake failure with no warning until after the incident( when all the fluid was gone}.

19 Brake Sensor problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/07/2013

While approaching the intersection of a state highway, I went to apply the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. Only by using the emergency brake and by going at a slower speed was I able to stop. The front brake line from the proportioning valve to the module had blown and the second brake line was rusted out. The remaining lines show some rust and will need replacing in the future. Also the O2 sensor went at the same time, total cost almost $600. 00. Not bad for a truck with only 37k miles on it, right?.

20 Brake Sensor problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/25/2013

The brakes on my truck take forever to work. I have replaced the abs sensor and bearing and fuse and the lights continue to come on after I drive a mile after strting it up. This is very scary. If I needed to stop suddenly it would cause a crash. I have researched and I am not the only one with this problem. Please do a recall. Chevy has already done a recall for the same break system for the 00' to '05 silverado. This has potentiona to hurt my family and maybe someone elses.

21 Brake Sensor problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

I was following my girlfriend in my truck & when coming to a slow stop at less than 5mph, my trucks abs started to activate on dry road conditions causing me to bump into her car! no real damage occurred to either of our vehicles but after researching this known gm problem with their abs systems and their wheel sensors, it's obvious that gm knows of these issues for years in their trucks!! I've taken my truck into the dealership where I bought it brand new in 2006 and they told me that it was my problem to get it fixed!! I replaced the drivers side wheel bearing after it failed in 2010 with a gm wheel bearing and their service tech told me that gm would replace it for free but yet they hold no responsibility for the original gm wheel bearings!! this is a disaster waiting to happen to all gm truck owners!.

22 Brake Sensor problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to decelerate, the brakes failed to function properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the brake sensor had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000. The VIN was unavailable. Mh.

23 Brake Sensor problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/25/2012

I have had right rear brake line rust out. I had front brake lines rust out. I had the brake line to the abs from booster rust out. Had the fuel lines rust out(leaking raw gas) had oil lines for automatic transmission rust out. Each time I was lucky that it happened in the city at low speeds and not while pulling a trailer. I also had trouble with the abs kicking in falsely at slow speeds(also rust build up at wheel sensor mounting place.

24 Brake Sensor problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/10/2012

Pickup is always garaged . At 30000 miles had to change the front brake sensors as the anti-lock was activating as the truck came to a stop on dry pavement. Occurred at approx 5 mph. Hubs and sensors changed ($600 cost). Now at 58000 miles problem has reappeared. It appears a recall (#05v379000) has been issued for silverado pickups from 1999-2002. I will be contacting dealer. Truck located in northern minnesota.

25 Brake Sensor problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/14/2012

When coming to a stop and suddenly without warning, my brakes began pulsating rapidly, eventually stopping about 10 feet beyond where I intended to stop. Fortunately there were no vehicles in front of me an none coming through the intersection. Shortly afterwards, I had the vehicles brake system evaluated only to find out the root cause is the anti-lock brake sensors activating due to corrosion and rusting. I was informed that this issue has been typical with these models of vehicles for many years. In reading online posts, I seen this is a common and known issue, but the dealer does not recognize it, therefore a recall should be issued because this is a serious safety concern which could have resulted in bodily injury or death!.

26 Brake Sensor problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/14/2012

Many electrical issues involving sensors. Wheel sensors needed replace twice. Non functional cruise control. Brake lines, transmission lines and gas lines very rusty. Two brake line failures luckily both were stationary. . All lines need replaced.

27 Brake Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 10/18/2011

My silverado pickup has had two problems that caused low-speed inappropriate activation of the abs, lengthening stopping distances. Once, about five years ago, and again this year. On both occasions the front wheel bearing hubs had to be replaced to remedy the problem. The bearings are sealed and not serviceable, and when they wear the air gap under the anti-lock sensor starts varying, causing erroneous signals to the abs. The first symptom is dangerous application of the abs at low speed. (I nearly hit the building I was approaching while parking. ).

28 Brake Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 09/08/2011

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 8 mph, she applied the brakes but the vehicle did not stop until crashing in her front yard. The crash was minor and the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the contact was informed that some of the braking sensors would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 78,300. The VIN was not available.

29 Brake Sensor problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/03/2011

Lost power to engine while driving down the interstate highway. Fault on dash showed (reduced engine power). Pulled to shoulder of highway and tried to restart engine to no avail. After sitting for about 5 minutes engine started and check engine light stayed on for a few days. Since that time I have replaced the throttle position sensor and have still been having the same problem for the past 2 years. It will sometimes drive for a few days without any problem, but some days it will occur 10 or more times in a day. I have been on several websites only to see several people are experiencing the same problem even on different models and year vehicle's. This could and may well have caused deathly auto accidents. I have looked for a recall on this problem and could not find one. My question is, "are there any plans to recall effected vehicles for the issue of "reduced engine power?" please check into this ASAP. Thank you for your time and concern.

30 Brake Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/26/2011

Was pulling into garage applied brakes was running 4 mph anti lock activated peddle went to floor hit work bench knocked wall out of back of garage & damage truck $5000 total damage. Found out wheel sensor was bad replaced no more problems. Seams like something that's is suppose to help you stop should not keep you from stopping if it goes bad crappy fail safe.

31 Brake Sensor problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/15/2011

Abs low speed activation. As I was stopping around 5 mphs abs would start to activate causing the truck to not stop correctly. This would happen most of the time when stopping. Took truck to devoe chevy dealer ,alexandria indiana, for repair. Both front abs hub sensors needed replaced and hubs cleaned at cost of $359. 10 truck has only 55900 miles.

32 Brake Sensor problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/24/2011

At low speeds when coming to a stop, the abs will activate for no reason. Apart from being an annoyance, this also causes a longer stopping distance which poses a hazard if there is another vehicle in front of you. The right sensor was replaced in 3/2011 and the left sensor was replaced in 11/2012. It seems odd that both would fail and judging by the number of complaints for the same issue listed on here and multiple other websites, I think it's time for gm to step up and admit a continued problem with this. There was a recall for this issue up to 2002, I think it's time it is extended.

33 Brake Sensor problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/17/2011

Abs sensor(s) operate when slowing to a stop regardless of road conditions. This initially happened only occasionally but now is nearly constant and repair is needed. Gm dealer initially had no clue of what was happening but also found play in right front hub, internet search shows many drivers with same problems in sensors and hubs but no recall from gm. Why?.

34 Brake Sensor problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/06/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the abs would independently engage when driving at low speeds. The dealer was contacted who advised that they would need to clean the sensor and then replace them accordingly. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not contacted in regards to the failure. The failure mileage was 73,000.

35 Brake Sensor problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/04/2011

While trying to stop vehicle, while brake pedal engaged, brakes released and lost braking power, continuing to go forward with very limited ability to stop the vehicle. Stopping of vehicle was achieved by continuing multiple times to re-engage the brakes each time the brakes released and lost power. Dealership inspected and tested the brakes. They found both front abs sensors dropping out due to the same problem as the Chevrolet recall for silverado models up to year 2002, corrosion in the braking system. They followed the procedure outlined in the recall. Because my 2006 was not in the recall, I paid $165 for the work. I contacted Chevrolet and they will not reimburse my expense unless they extend the recall. An internet search reveals other owners of silverados manufactured after 2002 are also having the problem. Nhtsa should be pushing Chevrolet to extend the recall because it is a very dangerous problem and it's not isolated to just a few vehicles.
