Upon being applied, the brake pedal was going all the way to the floor of the vehicle. The dealer informed me that this is a known problem with chevy trucks and that it is very common in the states that have snow and ice. They told me that the abs sensors needed to be removed & cleaned. I requested that gm pay for this since it appears to be a design flaw and they denied the request.

2007 chevy silverado classic crew cab: low speed pulsation of brakes, if I wasn't use to this condition, it could cause loss of control. I have this problem on and off since I purchased it back in may of 2010, the dealer replaced rotors and pads. It worked fine for a few thousand miles. Then the problem rear up again, I thought it was worn or faulty pads, replaced the pads, still pulsates. Had the bearings and rotors checked, no issue there. So here I am with the same problem and not solution. I've owned this vehicle for almost 7 years and the problem is intermittent. Chevy needs to own this. It has to be faulty sensor or corroded brake lines. Please help!!!!!.

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that when pulling from the driveway and attempting to depress the brake pedal, the vehicle continued moving and crashed into a fence. There were no injuries. No police report was filed. The vehicle suffered damages to the front end and bumper. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the brakes needed to be replaced; the repair was performed at that time. When leaving the dealership, the failure occurred again and the vehicle was taken to another mechanic who stated that the wheel sensor needed to be replaced; the repair was performed at that time. The vehicle continued having problems and would not stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The mechanic was working on the vehicle at the time of the complaint but still could not find the problem. The VIN was unavailable at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 43,000.

Silverado braking is soft and sometimes appears to be engage with front end transfer, that what it sounds like, it could be faulty sensor that activates the abs system. Not sure. . .

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The vehicle was repaired in 2005 according to recall 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock); however, in March 2010, the contact noticed that the brake pedal extended to the floorboard when he attempted to slow the vehicle down or stop. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the front sensors needed to be replaced. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance since the recall repair had already been performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was 90,207. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

I have a 2002 Chevrolet silverado z-71 pickup truck. I have 105,000 miles on it. When I'm at a low speed my anti-lock brakes activate for no reason and the truck wont stop. I have nearly been in several accidents. I have replaced the rotors and brakes and cleaned and regreased the abs sensors and nothing has changed. Im, forced to take my vehicle to the dealership for repairs. As it turns out, this is a common problem on chevy pickup trucks. This is a serious safety matter and needs to be looked into.
2006 chevy silverado [only 20k miles]
16k abs activation at low speed - dealer replaced rotors, pads, sensors
18k low speed accident - suspect abs problems
20k abs activation at low speed - grinding noise
several occasions of poor stopping response during ownership.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. During brake application the abs system engaged without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The front abs sensor were cleaned and then replaced at an expense of $270. 00. The failure mileage was 43,642.
On December 12, 2009, my 2000 chevy silverado was involved in a two vehicle collision as a result of my abs sensors activating at low speeds. I was unable to stop the vehicle which in normal hard braking would have stopped with out problem. There was damage to my front bumper as well as the vehicle in front of me. Apparently recall service work was performed on November 11, 2005 to fix the exact same problem that plaques nearly 1. 3 million gm trucks from 1999 to 2002. The abs sensors become corroded and activate at low speeds, greatly increasing the stopping distance of a low speed breaking situation. The recall may have replaced the sensors but it did not solve the problem as I am now a victim of the same failing sensors nearly 4 years later. I had no warnings that the sensors was not operating correctly and until the crash occurred and I researched the problem, I had no prior knowledge of the corrosion problems with the abs sensors and the recall gm issued as a result. I feel that the original recall did not solve the problem and gm should be telling consumers about this ongoing problem.
Anti-lock brake malfunction causing increased stopping distances. The vehicle will require a longer than normal stopping distance. Initially the problem will be intermittent and increase to every time the vehicle is stopped at slow speeds (0-10mph). The sensor on the wheel bearing needs to be removed and cleaned and the mounting surface also needs to be cleaned.

Was coming to a stop at a low speed, the abs kept activating and prevented me from stopping my vehicle. What stopped me was the truck that I hit, causing damage to my truck but no damage to the delivery truck. At that time I opened the hood on my truck and disconnected the front wheel sensor rendering my abs inop. That's the way my abs will remain till chevy admits the system has flaws and there is a recall.
Below is a list of history with repairs to my truck. In March 2004 I bought a brand new 2003 chevy Silverado 1500hd . First 2 yrs front rotars turned covered under warranty. Then 1-21-09 front rotars and calipars replaced due to rot. 1-30-09 transmission line replaced rotted. On 6-19-09 new starter. 8-29-09 rear calipers and hose rotted 35455 miles. On 9-2-09 abs sensor and left front brake hose rotted. On 8-28-10 power stering pump replaced. On 8-24-11 brake lines to abs rotted 46763 miles. 10-27-11 left rear brake line rotted 47943 miles. My windsheild washer fluid reservoir needs to be replaced leaking insrument panel shows empty. I'm having my left rear brake line replaced next week. . . Its the only one left and I dont want to take the chance of an accident. Mt mechanic states he has never seen this much rust on a fairly new vehicle. Unfortunately I didnt keep records in the early years of ownership but I cant believe transmission lines, brake lines ,calipers can rot that fast. I have never had this experience with past trucks I have owned. I believe there must be some sort of factory defect that is causing this.
Anti-lock brake sensor allows salty water to enter, abs activates at low speeds every stop every day.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving 5 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the abs activates on its own and increases the stopping distance. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer a few times, where it currently remains. The dealer stated that the abs sensor has corroded and needs to be replaced. The manufacturer will not replace the sensor for free, even though there is a recall for a different year of the same make and model vehicle. The sensor has not yet been replaced, but the contact believes that his vehicle should be included in the recall. The failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 51,000.
The front wheel hubs on my 2001 silverado had to be replaced due to abs sensors not working properly at low brake speeds. I understand chevy issued a recall concerning this problem, I never recieved any notice of this problem or any other recall notices. It cost me $744,99 to have this work done. I feel this is a chevy defect and they should have been made to replace these abs sensors since it is a safety hazard and there problem from the orginal design. My truck is of course out of warranty at 53,256 miles.
The abs sensors were replaced on my 2003 silverado, under the recall. However this did not fix the problem, the truck continues to not stop when the brakes are applied.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 hd. The contact stated that in June 2008 while driving at 5 mph, the abs activated and the vehicle seemed as if it would not stop. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the sensors and surface areas were taken out and cleaned. The problem occurred again a few weeks later and began to occur every time the contact drove the vehicle. The contact called the dealer and was advised to take the vehicle back in for repair. He was also informed that he would be responsible for all repair costs as the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The contact called the manufacturer and was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealership and was also given a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000. The current mileage was approximately 42,500.
1. Rattling, clunking in steering column - recalled on the 2005 silverado
2. Abs sensors corroded causing false activations, potentially will cause low speed crash(ES) - also recalled on 1999-2002 silverado
both items occur numerous times in any short trip. Taking vehicle to chevy dealership in town, want ridiculous amount of money to correct, why? when there are recalls of similar problems of different year trucks.

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving 10 mph, the brake pedal vibrated when depressed and the vehicle took longer than normal to stop. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The current and failure mileages were 103,000. The consumer stated once he informed the dealership of the recall, the mechanics checked the abs sensor and found the wire harness to be corroded. The consumer stated the wire harness was replaced and the sensor needed to be cleaned and now the problem is fixed. Updated 12/12/07.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the abs sensors malfunctioned when he attempted to stop the vehicle. When he attempted to come to a complete stop, the vehicle lunged forward and almost struck a school bus. The failure worsened over time. He stated that 4 out of 5 times, when he would attempt to stop the vehicle, the abs would malfunction and prevent sufficient braking control. He took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the hubs were corroded. The current mileage was approximately 52,000 and failure mileage was approximately 40,000. Updated 6/2/08 06/02/08.
The abs is activating at low speeds mostly during parking maneuvers. The truck has been serviced under the front sensor recall but the repair did not solve the problem.

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While applying the brakes between 5 and 10 mph, the abs pulsates and the vehicle will not stop. The failure caused the vehicle to crash into a fence. The bumper was dented. The contact stated that the brakes pulsate 8 out of 10 times and increase the vehicle's stopping distance. He has had one abs sensor unplugged in order to deactivate the abs. Nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes:hydraulic:antilock) was referenced. The current and failure mileages were 73,500. Updated 01/11/08. Updated.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the antilock brake sensors are engaging when the vehicle is traveling 5 mph or less. The failure occurs while driving and this is the second time. The first occurrence was repaired under safety recall # 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). For the second occurrence, less than 20,000 miles later, the dealer has refused to make the repair under the safety recall. The current mileage is 97,000 and failure mileage was 96,000.
The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet silverado c1500 extended cab. The contact noticed that both of the tailgate support cables failed, which caused the tailgate to drop down to the bumper while driving approximately 55 mph. She had to excessively pump the brake pedal in order to effectively stop the vehicle. On one occasion, the brake pedal nearly extended to the floor. She took the vehicle to the auto repair shop and was informed that the abs sensors on the brakes were the cause of the failure. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id numbers 06v066000 (structure:body:tailgate:hinge and attachments) and 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The manufacturer has not been notified. The current mileage was approximately 97,000 and failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
I had a recall that was supposed to of been fixed but now they are not working correctly and I almost had a major accident. I have a 2001 chevy silverado pickup and the abs sensors lock up the brakes for no reason . They say they fixed the recall awhile back which I do not believe . This is a very serious problem . I am just waiting for the lawsuits to hit gm . I almost crashed though a front glass window pane store front . If I had heart problems I would have probably had a heart attack ! this is a serious, serious problem .
03 chev. Silverado 57,000 miles, purchased new by myself. Brought to dealer due to brake wear indicator noise @ 32,000 miles. Had to have all four rotors and eight pads replaced due to extreme rust . Too bad to turn down . I was told that was not unusual for that truck . $900. 00 repair. At 52,000 miles abs sensors started malfunctioning at low speeds , again rust causing sensors to lift from hub and misread indicator, $600. 00 repair. 57,000 miles rust again strikes , all brake lines on vehicle are rusted so badly they are flaking away material and produced a major brake line leak where the lines cross the frame above the fuel filter. Can't wait to get the bill on this as all the fittings are badly rusted as well. Amazing that there is no carryover in parts from 02 to 03 yet the same problems exist repeatedly. Gm employee and buyer since 1965, no more for me. Quality materials throughout I'm sure.
The brakes on my 2002 silverado are terrible. At low speeds the brake pedal goes to the floor and the truck will not stop. My wife refuses to drive the truck. I use it to pull my 2 horse trailer and the trailer brakes stop the vehicle. The chevy recall on these brakes should be extended to all states! I live in florida and obviously my truck has been affected by the faulty abs sensor issue.
I own a 2002 Chevrolet silverado 2wd. When applying the brakes and coming to a stop, there is a pulsation. It feels as if the abs is taking over and releasing, and then reapplying the braking action, rapidly, as I come to a stop. I spoke to a gm representative about a recall that has been issued regarding this problem. The gm recall number is 05068. The representative told me that my VIN number was included in the recall, but because I don't live in a "salt belt" state, my vehicle is not being recalled (I live in florida). Apparently, it is the road salt that is used during the winter months that corrodes the abs wheel sensors and leads to this problem. And, although I do not live in a state that uses road salt, I do use my vehicle to tow and launch a boat in the salt water. I believe that because of this use, my vehicle should be included in the recall.
- the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The vehicle started having brake problems at 4,000 miles. The brakes pulsated and shook. The dealer rotated the rotors and cut them down twice. The brake pedal shook when it was depressed. The dealer had tried several fixes, but the brake problem continued. The contact had an appointment to have the hub sensor replaced. The current mileage is 13,000.
Brakes fail when vehicle slows down to 5-10 mph due to defective antilock brake sensors.
- the contact stated that the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, had abs problems. While driving under 15 mph the contact almost had to stand on the brake pedal to get the vehicle to come to a stop. There was a recall campaign # 05v379000 for service brakes, anti lock. The contact has contacted the manufacturer, and filed a complaint with file # 71470052366. The contact stated that this was file over a week ago. The contact stated that he has had the sensors replaced on 3 occasions. The 1st sensor was replaced at 45,104 miles on 08/02/05, and the 2nd sensor was replaced at 46583 on 10/24/05 and the 3rd was replaced 01/17/07 with 60216 miles. The contact believes that the abs should not have so many problems. The contact stated that on 3 occasions he has barely averted a crash.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact was experiencing brake failures and the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA recall campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock) where the dealer cleaned the left brake sensor. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The dealer replaced the right and left brake sensors under the contacts factory warranty. The contact believed the recall repair should have called for the sensors to be replaced and not cleaned. The failure mileage was not available and the current mileage was 37,402.
