The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 55 mph and coming to a stop, the check engine warning light and traction control warning light illuminated. Additionally, a message indicating that the brakes had failed, and the vehicle could only drive at 40 mph was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the brake master cylinder was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred while driving and coming to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the same repair was completed; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and sent the parts to the dealer for the repair. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
I bought the 1st truck in December. The brakes failed on orange blossom trail in orlando. Brakes would not stop vehicle and the dash light up like a christmas tree. I took it to the dealer and they said it needed a master cylinder but could not get it because chevy was on strike. I traded in and got a second vehicle. They did the recall on it before I took it and then the brakes failed so I took it into the dealer. They did an update on it and I left with it the same day. About a month later the brakes failed. . . First time on 436 in orlando florida I was behind a school bus and they went out. Luckily I was far enough behind it I could get pulled over. Second time I was on sr434 and 17/92 in longwood at a red light. I took it to the dealer and they said it needs a new master cylinder. Keep in mind this is the second truck. 2019 chevy Silverado 1500. I tried to trade it back in to get out of the 1500 into a 2500 and they wanted me to take a $17,000 hit. Chevy would not do anything to help me. I have made two total payments on it . I paid 50k and owe 44327. 00 on it.

2020 Silverado 1500 duramax 3. 0 1200 miles and check engine light with codes. I was 300 miles from home so glad it made it. Take to dealer and they tell me I cant drive it because of a failed master cylinder issue. Part is on unknown backorder.
On the evening oif 1/11/20, I went to the parking lot and started my truck and multiple warnings came up on the info center for the brakes - brake system failure max speed 62mph; service trailer brake system; service esc. Check engine light was also illuminated. I turned the truck off, restarted it and received the same message. I was able to slowly drive the truck the three miles to my house with very limited braking capability. When my husband went out to check the truck 15 minutes later, the brakes had returned but the check engine light was still illuminated. I took the vehicle to a local dealer first thing Monday morning and was advised today that they diagnosed a premature failure of the master cylinder. This after the software update in the previous recall had been completed approximately two weeks prior. The service adviser noted this has been a common issue after the software update and has been happening across the country. I believe this needs to be a nationwide recall if the current software update is causing the master cylinder to fail at this rate.

I have a 2015 Silverado 1500 5. 3 with about 90k miles. While I was parallel parking, after the 2nd pump, I realized the truck wasnt stopping. I had to use both legs to make it stop before hitting the car in the back of me and almost crushing a pedestrian. My brake pads and rotors are fine. I do hear an abnormal noise coming from the engine area at all times. Kinda like a bad pulley bearing or something. Noticed it the day the truck started acting up. I looked online on mutiple websites and understand this is a common problem with the vacuum pump, brake booster and master cylinder. This should be a safety recall.

When coming to a stop in traffic the brakes failed to stop my truck. I was going straight at a very low speed. The pedal felt like I was pushing on a brick. I did get my truck stopped and got it off the road. I called my dealer who said they had not heard of this problem but thought it sounded like a brake booster failure. I called gm customer service who started a case # 9-5055710889, they told me that the truck was out of warrenty. Upon further reading I discovered the TSB for my truck to replace the brake booster, master cylinder, line , and vacum pump. The truck is being repaired now. My truck has 41,000 miles on it.
While driving in stop and go traffic on a city street moving straight forward and inching the brakes to move with the traffic flow I noticed that the brake pedal got very hard and the vehicle was continuing to move forward even though I had all my weight pushing on the brake pedal lifting myself off my seat this happened 3 times before I was able to reach adequate parking. I have taken the vehicle to a certified gm service shop and after inspection they instructed me that I would need to replace the brake system vacuum pump, the brake booster, brake master cylinder and the tubing connecting the items. Resulting in a $1170. 00 repair and the service rep also stated that this would take care of the issue but cautioned the oil and filter changes needs to be maintained according to the manufacturers standards. I have owned this vehicle about fifteen days as of this writing I did by it from a dealer whom said he was unaware of this issue. Why is the NHTSA or whom ever continuing to let the dealers sell theses vehicles with a known safety problem without addressing the proper repairs stated in the TSB pit5361b that gm has sent out to there service centers. Serious accidents could and should be prevented with this issue.

On 12/15/2018 my brake vacuum pump went out. I had it replaced at a dealership. Total cost $1506. 56. Master cylinder, brake booster, and a connecting pipe had to be replaced also. April 2019, I receive a letter from gm, describing this issue and saying if I have less than 72,000 miles or bought it new within the last 6 years, whichever come first, they will fix it. Brakes are a very serious component. This problem dates back to the 2014,s. I feel gm should reimburse me for my repair cost, since the problem came from their plant. I have more miles on my truck than they say they will cover. Brakes and the components are things they should cover. I have invoices and proof that I paid these expenses. Every person pays hard earned money for a new vehicle. Manufacturers should be required to back their vehicles. I was driving on a side street when this pump went out. I had all I could do to stop it, using both feet on the brake pedal. Thank you for your time.
After driving extensively through several towns, cities and on highways, the brakes went out as we turned into our driveway. Harold Chevrolet (dealer and service) replaced master cylinder, brake booster, vacuum pump and hose because the vacuum pump leaked internally into brake booster. ($1638. 86) this is very concerning because according to the newspaper, you are aware but have failed to warn owners. Injury and loss of life is a real possibility. I use this truck to back my boat into the lake several times a week. If the brakes had failed, I do not think I could have survived with my age (73) and disability (neuropathy of feet and legs. )this really stresses me.

I was coming off a hill and trying to brake before making a turn onto another road. The brake pedal would not depress, felt very hard and I was unable to stop the vehicle. I took the truck to a garage and was told it was a fault in the brake vacuum booster and master cylinder. I will attach the invoice for the parts. The truck is still getting fixed and do not have an invoice for labor yet.
The 8th of November 2018 while traveling through austin, TX - in heavy traffic; I nearly rear-ended another vehicle - the brakes got real hard, but the vehicle kept rolling. The brakes acted like the engine was shut off. I tried them again after resumed speed- and I tested them - on the third pump - they were rock-hard again. A vehicle shop in san antonio was able to consistently replicate the problem. It was a bad vacuum-pump-assist. It cost me $455. 00, it could have been worse, the mechanic told me that oil from the engine could have damaged the vacuum booster and/or the master cylinder. He told me chevy knows about it - #pit5361b - but I never knew about it - I almost rear-ended another vehicle. Vehicle had 48,500 miles when it occurred.
I brought my 2015 chevy Silverado 1500 to a local repair shop as my brakes were not functioning properly. Stopping required very forcefully depressing the brake pedal to stop. On November 7, 2018 the repair shop contacted the local chevy service manager to determine if there was a recall on the vehicle given that the vehicle is a recent model with limited mileage. It was determined that master cylinder and brake booster were defective and needed to be replaced. After taking a lengthy drive the vehicle had same brake problems making it extremely difficult to brake going down a hill. The vehicle was taken back to the local auto repair on November 15th. Repair shop called local chevy dealer and spoke with parts manager to see if there was a recall on recent model chevy silverado as they had a 2016 silverado in there shop same day for same problem. Chevy dealer parts manager indicated there was not a current recall but they did notice an issue as they had sold 10 abs pumps in just one week! the local repair shop replaced the abs pump. The defective brake equipment placed my family at risk and cost me more than $900. Most importantly this defective brake equipment in the recent model chevy silverado is a significant safety issue. Had there been a need to stop quickly I feel confident I would not have been able to avoid a collision.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While the contact's spouse was driving 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to slow down the vehicle. The contact stated that the brake pedal felt very firm. The vehicle was driven to moran Chevrolet (located at 4511 24th Ave, fort gratiot twp, mi 48059, (812) 202-4062) where it was diagnosed that the vacuum pump, brake booster, brake lines, and brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 63,324.
The brake lines on my 2003 Silverado 1500 are rusting completely out. Two years ago I had to replace a portion of the passengers front brake line because of corrosion. Last year I had to replace the line that goes from the abs to the rear flexible hose fitting. Today I discovered that a line from the master cylinder is leaking, I haven't gotten underneath to see if it is the front or rear supply line. This is outrageous and is a safety issue. I had a 1968 camaro for 19 years, sold it in 2004 and it's brake lines were in perfect condition never a problem. That's 36 year old and never a problem. I also have a 2006 colbalt ss, it's lines are okay because they have a coating on them that protects the metal. Why doesn't the truck have the same coating? is someone going to have to die or be seriously injured before a recall is issued. By the way all the failures happen when I was driving down the street, applying the brakes, not when I was standing still.

Nephew borrowed my truck. He was in motion and tried to make a left hand turn on a city street and realized brakes had failed. He wisely continued straight till it slowed down enough and he made a right hand turn onto a road and pulled into a parking lot behind a housing project. He used a snow bank/boulder to stop the truck. Luckily no one was hurt. Truck was towed back to my house. I do my own repairs. After inspection it was determined that one of the supply lines from the master cylinder into the abs module had ruptured. There was complete failure of the braking system after a single push on the brakes. The truck is 11 years old. How can the brake lines be rusting out. There is a serious issue and a serious flaw with this design. I'm attaching 2 pictures for your observation. Gm should be held accountable for fixing these bad designs. Is this another cheap solution like the ignition key problem that cost countless lives? there should be the utmost action by this agency to hold gm accountable. This abs module should be up in the front hood like other manufacturers do. Not under the cab in a wet environment. Shame on gm.

Received an alert around 63,500 miles "alert: service break assist. " dealership service advisor notified me that problem was "brake master cylinder leaking into vacuum boster. Both need to be replaced. " cost $1172. 61. Break basically wouldn't work properly when pressed. This should not happen so early. I've only had truck for two years. Chevrolet needs to fix this. This could have caused an injury to myself or my family.
Per attached work orders, my brakes were going to the floor in reverse only. They replaced master cylinder and said all fixed. Several weeks later happened again so now replaced vacuum & booster pump. That was 2 weeks ago. Still working and filed complaint with gm but they said nothing they could do. These have no moving or mechanical parts and should probably never wear out. Prior to all this I was getting a report to service electronic trailer brakes but had not hooked up a trailer? when first pointed this out they said could not find anything. Second time they replaced electronic switch as "bad". Personally I feel it had nothing to do with all the parts replaced and feel strongly that this is electronic and related to the abs braking system electronics or mother board. Vehicle was in reverse moving slowly. Damaged rear bumper last fail due to unable to stop vehicle. If someone was behind me directing me there is a good chance they could have been crushed or injured seriously. I feel this is a recall waiting to happen.
While in motion at multiple speeds, brakes would surge or feel solid with minimal braking intermittently. When replacing the brake booster we noticed the master cylinder was leaking into the brake booster causing the issues. This could be very dangerous. Did not matter if turning or straight. Worst part is it seemed to fail upon heavier application of brakes when needed most. This has been happening since about 15,000 miles.

Travelling from PA to cape hatteras, nc. Total brake failure of all 4 wheels in bumper to bumper traffic on us 158 s bypass in kill devil hills. Managed to swerve onto right berm grassy area and shift to low and use hand brake to stop. Had two children in the back seat. One was a 2 year old. Had to drive 42 miles with no brakes to reach destination. Mechanic in rodanthe had to replace all brake lines and master cylinder. Brake lines were totally rusted out. If this would have happened on I-95 at 70 mph we would probably all have been killed.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While the vehicle was undergoing routine maintenance, the mechanic noticed that the master cylinder was leaking into the brake booster. Both components would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000.
Brake lines are rusting away. I noticed a soft brake pedal, on my way back to st. Louis from atlanta, GA. I noticed fluid under the truck in my driveway after I got home. I started looking around the truck. The master cylinder was low on fluid. No warning light came on. I noticed fluid under the drivers side door. It was brake fluid coming from a rusted thru brake line. After inspection, all of the other brake lines were badly rusted. The repair(reichers auto and tire-washington, mo) shop is replacing all of the brake lines due to heavy rust. Cost is going to be over $800.
1st time was pulling out of my driveway and left rear brake line broke just in front of the wheel,(replaced line) 2nd time on the road driving @ 60mph and go to stop and pedal goes to floor, luckily ii got into a corn field before anyone was hurt!! front line broke at frame just forward of the master cylinder, who ever heard of the main safety figure of your vehicle would not be stainless steel!! who in the world are watching over these manufacturers!.

Leaving my drive way my brake peddle went all the way to the floor. I had to use emergency brake to stop truck. After checking for problem I found that the metal brake line from the master cylinder to the brakes had rusted through in the engine area and brake fluid was being sprayed on the manifold. (if engine was hotter their could have been a fire. ) truck is sitting in my driveway still not fixed.
My brakes failed coming back from a 356 mile trip. I was backing up my boat into the garage when the brakes failed. Luckily I stepped on the parking brake and was able to stop without hitting something. I think I am really lucky the failure did not happen on the expressway or when my wife was driving. There looks like 4 brake lines running from the master cylinder down under the driver side to the antilock brake unit. One of the brake lines in this bunch below the driver seat failed. I was suppressed to see how coroded all the brake line are. This seems to me to be a real safety issue. Looking on the web this looks like an issue the many people have encountered. It also appears that gm is aware of the issue and has done nothing.
Brakes got progressively "soft" on the way home, until eventually the pedal went to the floor. Made home by going slow and downshifting to decelerate without using the brakes. Problem diagnosed to be the master cylinder.

While traveling at 25mph and coming to a slight abrupt stop, the brake pedal fell to the floor while depressing the pedal to stop. The vehicle came slowly to a stop with steam rising from under the vehicle. Upon pulling the vehicle to a safe location and upon inspection, it appears as if one of the metallic (assuming steel) brake lines feeding from the master cylinder to the abs block had burst. No indication lights on the dash of a braking system failure or low pressure alert for the system. It appears that the brake lines were corroded/rusted. Upon discussing with a reputable auto shop, they indicated that this is a common issue on this model year vehicle and that a repair to replace the lines may be required. This is a safety issue in my opinion and if the materials used to make this safety system were non-corrosive; this would have not happened.
As I was leaving my home there was a complete loss of brakes in my driveway. After checking I discovered that the brake line had burst due to corrosion. I had a hard time trying to understand how there could be a complete loss as all vehicles now have a dual line master cylinder. I then remembered I had seen a oily spill and trail up the shared gravel drive several months ago. Apparently I had lost half the brake system months ago. There was no warning light or different feel to the brakes during this time. I managed to get the truck in the garage and while checking what was needed for repair I discovered that every single brake line on the vehicle needs to be replaced. I have another Chevrolet pickup that I bought new in 1989 and the brake lines are in better shape than the 2005's.
The brake lines on my 02 silverado blew out while moving our camper trailer into our back yard for storage. My wife was driving and I was watching her backing up. She yelled out to me the "brakes fell funny", we were almost done and unhooked the trailer. I moved the truck to the street and noticed the pedal went to the floor and would not stop easily. I noticed a big wet spot under the cab, checked the brake master cylinder level, empty. Had it towed (aaa) to my mechanic, paid $1,600. 00 to have the steel brake lines and flex hoses replaced. If driving on the highway with the camper when this occurred, could have been a big accident or more. I have over 32 years of fire/ ems experience - this was bad situation ! I love my 02 silverado, I also have a 1969 camaro ss/rs 427 big block I installed stainless steel ones, so I am not against Chevrolets, just the cheap supplier on a vital safety part - brak lines. Timmy.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the contact attempted to depress the brake pedal but it was difficult to depress. In addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to fully accelerate however, it moved slowly and then stalled. The contact also noticed a burning odor. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that both front calipers, the cores, the rotors and the pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake system needed to be flushed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken again to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder, both rear brake hoses, the wheel cylinder, the front cylinder, the brake monitor valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 53,387.

At under 60,000 miles both brake lines from master cylinder were badly rusted. One line failed and the other was in imminent danger of failure. This is an extremely dangerous problem and Chevrolet has been resisting a recall for years. This truck was driven mostly in a non-salted roads state. It is unacceptable to have brake lines rusted through in under 60,000 miles. Chevy tries to cut costs and save a few pennies on a component that is critical to life safety and they refuse to make it right when their cost-cutting scheme fails. My second and last chevy.
