In a parking garage and trying to maneuver into a parking stall. The brake pedal became very hard. The abs light flashed momentarily and went out. There were no power brakes and very little effect to standing on the brake pedal. Put vehicle in park and restarted it. Continued to have no or limited brakes. Went on to another parking stall where no one else around. Crept into spot. When arrived back from trip, brakes were fine. Called local chevy dealership and they replaced vacuum pump free of charge. Has only happened 2 times since them. All in parking lots at very low speeds.

I was driving down the road and I was approaching a red light I started to push my brake pedal and I noticed it was extremely hard. I was able to get the truck to stop without crashing I pulled over on the side of the road and shut the truck off. I checked to see if I have fluid in my brakes booster and it was full. I got back in the truck and started it up and everything was fine. A few minutes later my abs light and stable trac light came on. We got the truck to my buddy shop and he when online trying to find a replacement vacuum pump and seen all the complaints about the defective vacuum pump. I called Chevrolet service department and ask them what we could do. They told me to bring the truck in and I could pay full price to have everything fixed and they would give me a ride to pick up a rental car that I would have to purchase.

Tl-tl- the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet silverado ld crew. The contact stated that while driving at 7mph, the brakes pedal was depressed and failed to respond as the abs waring light illuminated. As an result the contact was still going 7 mph and allowed the vehicle to stop on its own. The contact turn the vehicle off and on which caused the vehicle to resume back to normal. The vehicle was not towed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer allen turner Chevrolet 4150 s ferdon blvd, crestview, FL 32536 (850)-398-4105 where it was diagnosed that the brakes vacuum pump failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000. Ck.
I have a 2014 silverado with 60k miles. On Sunday, I was pulling into the garage after a short errand and I lost most of the braking power. I was able to stop the truck by pressing the brake pedal hard. I immediately drove backwards and it did the same thing. I restarted the vehicle the issue went away, mind you during all of this the abs light never came on either. Searching online I found a bulletin in some rare situations, a customer may comment on a hard brake pedal or that increased effort is needed to depress the brake pedal. While performing normal diagnostics, fluid may be found in the brake booster and/or the booster vacuum line. If engine oil is found, it is important the following parts are replaced. If not, the condition will return. 1. Vacuum pump 2. Vacuum line between the booster and the pump 3. Brake booster 4. Master cylinder after finding this and reading all the accounts I feel like gm needs to make this a special coverage. This is 100% safety concern.
Vehicle in motion on city street, abs light came on sporadically. While abs light was on, braking system would engage. Two days after incident, abs shows constant, all the time, abs brakes randomly engage.
My traction control light and abs light came on and the messages to service both of these systems are in my information center. My brakes are now dragging the rotors due to this problem. This is a major safety concern and a recall needs to be implemented to correct this issue. This started while driving down the highway.

I was driving my truck and noticed the abs light come on and a humming sound from underneath the vehicle. I stopped the vehicle and turned it off including removing the key from the ignition, and a motor near the abs system kept running. I then pressed on the brake pedal again and one of the brake lines ruptured. I looked at all the lines and they are all severally rusted and about to blow too. After reading about this on the internet this is apparently a huge issue with a lot of gm vehicles made between 1999 and 2003. I ended up spending $800 to have all the brake lines replaced so the vehicle is safe again. I am amazed this has not been recalled or at least had an offer for a discounted repair. I am glad that I didn’t get into an accident to find this issue like a lot of stories I read. I guess it will just take a few deaths before it is recalled.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the hydraullic brake lines were rusted and corroded and the abs warning light illuminated intermittently. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
While leaving our house to go to work the rear differential signal/ anti skid dashboard came on and the truck refused to go. It had not power. We had to replace the sensor. After that the stabilitrak and the anti skid and the abs light keeps coming on taking away my anti lock brakes and making my car unsafe to drive. I also haul my horse so it is too dangerous to move my horse anywhere when this service light keeps coming on. It has not come on while hauling anything. It comes on randomly with absolutely no weight in or on the truck. This has happened 3 more times within the last month.
Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet avalanche. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, when the brake pedal was depressed, the pedal went down tot he floor failed to stop the vehicle. The brake and abs warning lights had illuminated. The vehicle was stopped with the emergency brake and the contact was able to coast over to an emergency lane. The contact had exited the vehicle and noticed that the brake lines were corroded and the vehicle had now only had front brakes. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for a diagnosed and the stated that all the brake lines and possibly the abs module needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the approximate failure mileage was 77,038. Gb.

One day I went to stop on a dry road and when I was almost stop the brake pedal dropped and the abs engaged. I had the brakes inspected and all of the rotors were almost gone from rust with chunks of the rotor missing on the rear. I had all of the rotors replace with new pads and I still have the same problems with the abs engaging about 5 mph when stopping increasing my stopping distance. I have no abs light or check engine light.

I had my truck fixed at sear automotive in hunt valley maryland after 3 week after I was promised 1 week. Was told it needed a new rear differential and new brake lines. I got my truck back I lost brakes going down the road and my abs light came on brought my truck back to sears. It was fixed so I was told and I lost brakes aging. And then I brought it back a 3rd time they finally fixed it. But they made me drive my truck with no brakes back tothem. Next my rear differential locked up on 695 and I spun out I brought the truck back to them. They claimed it was out of warranty when the warranty expired well the truck was in the shop. So I started to drive the truck home and 4 wheel drive turned on and my front 2 wheels started dragging along with my back which made my truck come to a stop in the middle of york road. Which auto nation told me that my front differential is bad not the rear that's why it happened.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the driver side seat belt would suddenly retract and prevent the contact from moving. Also, the contact indicated that the ignition key became lodged in the ignition switch and could not be removed. In addition, the abs sensor light illuminated. As I turned into the driveway, the brakes pushed all the way to the floor and the abs system kicked in (on dry pavement). Vehicle was not stopping so I ran it into the frame of the garage door to stop, otherwise I would have ran through the garage door. The shop could not determine why the abs light stayed on. Brake lines were totally rusted. Truck has a good engine, but terrible rust on brake lines, frame, lower body panel behind doors. Paint pealing off hood and roof.

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that there was extensive rust and corrosion on the brake lines. As a result, the brake lines prematurely fractured several times. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who replaced the brake lines twice; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the abs warning light illuminated and the brake pedal sank to the floor. The vehicle was to be towed to an independent mechanic a third time for inspection and diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
While pulling into my driveway, the brake pedal stated chattering like the anti-lock brakes were activating. The abs light came on intermittently and when the truck was being parked in front of the garage it would not stop and went through the garage door.
I was on the interstate driving about 60 to 70 mph when all of a sudden my truck switched to fwd low all on its own. I was able to pull off on the shoulder . I was able to put the vehicle back in 2wd. Later the service 4wd light came on. I also have occasions when all of the dash lights will come on and all the gauges drop and now my abs light flashes and the warning bell rings as I drive down the road.
Rotten brake lines. I looked at the brake lines while changing my oil. My truck has 47k on it. I called gm. They told me that I had to bring it to a dealer. I did. They confirmed that the brake lines are bad and need to be replaced. $1500 also the tranmission cooling lines are leaking. I have been through almost all of the brake problems listed on this web cite. Abs light comes on, twice, 2nd time I replaced the left hub bearing assembly. The 1st time the dealer replaced the front abs sensors. Air bag light comes on, I replaced a bad front air bag sensor, right side. This truck is turning into a money pit!!!!! this new (rotten lines) issue is a safety issue as was the abs issue. Gm needs to do a full recall and replace the brake lines before someone gets killed.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that when driving between 5-20 mph and depressing the brakes, there was an increase in stopping time. The abs light would then illuminate on the instrumental panel. The vehicle was repaired for the failure under NHTSA campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock) in September 2005. The vehicle was later taken to the dealer where they advised the contact that since the recall had already been performed on the vehicle, they were not able to assist. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 90,400.
While approaching a one lane bridge on dry, clean pavement at approx 10 mph I attempted to brake to line up with the bridge. The vehicle failed to brake, with the abs light coming on and stayed on and a loud noise came from the the passenger side front wheel well. I closely missed hitting the rail of the bridge (which would have been a 20ft plunge off the bridge) and the vehicle continued for another 20 to 25 ft while on the slight down hill graded slope. No matter how I pushed the brake pedal the brakes failed to respond and I utilized my training as an emergency apparatus driver and placed the vehicle into a lower gear and drifted it into an embankment to stop. I then backed the vehicle out of the embankment and the vehicle operated fine but the abs light remains on. As I see with other posts this is an obvious problem with the silverado that needs to be addressed immediately.
At 45,000 mi. Abs began activating, at slow speed, when stopping. Abs light was not lite and brakes were effective. Based on the c0040 diagnostic code, replaced rt front hub/abs sensor assy. At a cost of $400. Eventually, all hub sensors began giving false indications. Was told by dealer it was attributed to a defective design, but there was no bulletin or recall to remedy the problem. Cannot afford to replace all hubs if it is only going to happen again. Gm should make good on these repairs.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving at approximately 5 mph the contact heard a grinding sound coming from the exterior of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics. The mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. The abs light illuminated on the instrument panel and there was an abs warning sound. The contact stated the abs system activates unexpectedly and the vehicle slides forward while driving. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Abs engages when rolling to a stop sign at very low speeds. The brake pedal gets soft and you roll past where you think you would have stopped. The abs light does not come on when this happens. I disabled the abs by pulling the fuse and the problem does not occur. I think it is a abs sensor issue as there are no leaks or loss of brake fluid and evertything else looks fine.

The contact owns a 2006 chevy Silverado 1500. The contact stated when he applied the brake at a stop sign and the abs sensor light illuminated and the vehicle continued an extra ten feet before stopping. The failure had recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and was informed that the abs sensor and the hubs would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 70,000.
While driving my silverado down the freeway at 65mph the abs light just came on without warning or touching the brakes. Light stays on, and abs does not operate at all now, brakes feel soft and spongy and unsafe. I know there was a recall on these trucks, I called the dealership and they said yes there was but my VIN. Number wasn't effected in the recall. I believe it should be as I've read a lot of complaints on this issue with these trucks. I believe gm has a problem and it needs addressed.
From stopped position I pulled vehicle forward aprox. 50 ft and tried to stop. I heard abs pump come on and brake pedal was hard as a rock with no pulsation. I then hit a tree causing damaged to the bumper, headlight and hood. My speed was approx 4 mph. There was no indicator light on before, during or after the accident. I had to remove main abs fuse to make vehicle safe to drive. Then I had the brake and abs indicator lights on. I contacted gm. They did an inspection. During the inspection the inspector broke my parking brake. They would not tell me the results, only that they could not verify that the abs caused the accident because I had removed the fuse. But did tell me that after the fuse was reinstalled that the abs did come on at slow speed stops and all indicators lights were off. I was denied any offer to repair the vehicle. I also do not know if my vehicle had the 2005 recall done to it.

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the anti-lock braking system (abs) would independently engage. The brake and abs warning lights would also illuminate during the failure. The contact removed the abs fuse in order to prevent it from engaging. He also located a recall for the failure (NHTSA campaign id number: 05v379000: brakes hydraulic anti lock) but the manufacturer advised his VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer did not provide any further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileages were approximately 60,000.
Brakes have been spongy from the time I purchased and was told this is normal. I have replaced brake pads and rotors front and rear about 3 times since buying truck. Truck has always has slow response time to stop again told this is normal. Truck has about 65,000 miles and underside looks like a rust bucket. The problem I am having now is abs light comes on and off, pulsating brake petal and abs does not work plus there is a longer stopping distance . Told abs sensors are bad and need to be replaced at a cost of about $800 - $1000 dollars again normal?. I believe this is a safety issue for the consumer and general motors say they don't have enough complaints to warrant a recall. How many people have to die or be injured before something is done. It is time for these car manufactures to be accountable and make these vehicles safe.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving at approximately 10 mph and attempting to brake, the abs light would not illuminate and the abs would not engage. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The VIN was unavailable at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 82,000.
