The rear brake line on my 2001 chevt 1500 silverado rusted into. Is was not a salt corrison. Many trucks have this issue. I work in a parts store and a man came in last week with the same problem. It is know these checy trucks in this year do this. I hope u can take this serious and have gm to correct it before someone gets killed if they haven't already. I ran off the road due to it breaking and slide upon a fence. When I pushed on the brake . I had nothing no brakes at all. Please help. Thank you.

Incredible amount of frame rust. Vehicle only has 22500 miles but has extensive frame rust and front sway bar frame separation. Also heavily rusted brake lines. I have already replaced transmission shifter pawl and transmission cooling lines. I see widely posted occurrence on youtube & social media. I do not understand why gm is getting a pass on these horrible product issues. No listed recalls on site.

2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 classic. When I started my truck this morning, the brake pedal went to the floor. Brake fluid was all over the driveway. One of the brake lines had ruptured because it was rusted. Thank god I wasn't driving down the highway when the brake line failed. Research shows that gm and NHTSA have long been aware of this critical safety problem. Why hasn't there been a recall issued?.

1) brake line rusted and had to be replaced. 2) a new battery was installed only to be totally dead within 1 week 3) alternator replaced as that was thought to be the problem 4) finally found the problem and it is the abs system as the modulator / pump for this system would continually run even when the vehicle was turned off.
Son was driving truck and brakes went to the floor. Almost hit the car in front of him. Once I was able to get the truck home, I found a leak in the brake line under the drivers side door that appears to be due to rust.

I pressed the brakes hard to avoid hitting a deer. Once I pressed the pedal, the truck slowed and then the pedal went to the floor. A steel brake line below the cab blew. After inspection, I found that all the original steel lines were significantly rusted.

The brakes failed due to corrosive failure of brake lines. Complete replacement.

Sudden loss of braking ability. One minute brakes worked, but pedal went to floor on subsequent use. Inspection revealed this was due to rust-through of the rigid brake lines on the driver's side frame.
Brake lines have rusted through, causing line to rupture while in operation, nearly causing an accident. This has happened twice in last 9 months.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the brake line of the vehicle was completely rusted and fractured. The failure caused brake fluid to leak out. The vehicle was towed to weber Chevrolet creve coeur (12015 olive blvd, creve coeur, mo 63141, (314) 567-3300) where it was diagnosed that the entire brake line needed to be replaced. The repair would cost $3,000. The dealer stated that the failure was common among many of the same Chevrolet vehicles. The manufacturer stated that the extended warranty expired in 2012 and they could not assist. The failure mileage was 105,082.
While driving approx 50mph on 2-lane highway a brake line burst under hard braking (vehicle in front of me suddenly slowed to make a turn off the highway) due to rust. Pedal went all the way to the floor and I lost significant braking power. This resulted in a minor accident where I dented the bumper of the truck that was turning and significantly bent the right end of my front bumper. Was able to continue the trip the last 50 miles to my destination but braking distances were considerably longer than normal. Took it to a local mechanic who said all the brake lines were rusted and had to be replaced.
Tl the contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the abs module and brake line were rusted. The contact was a mechanic and repaired the brake line himself. The contact called mccarthy Chevrolet lee's summit (945 se oldham pkwy, lee's summit, mo 64081, (816) 356-6610) and they confirmed that there were no recalls. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 250,000.
This is 3rd time my brakes blow a line in 2 years and the first 2 times one time I was holding my brakes while backing up a hill on my property with a trailer attached, the second coming to a stop sign and this last time going down a steep hill coming to an intersection. I just changed the line that was broken the first two times. I had filed a complaint with you last year but I cannot find the info. This time I changed all of the lines as it scared me bad this time as I live in the mountains and did not wish to push my luck any further. Chevrolet wanted over $1,200 to change them out using the same materials that failed in the first place. I had them changed at napa for $680 using copper/nickel which is a superior product. Gm's excuse for the lines rusting out was the customer did not wash the lines off when salt got on them. You cannot get to most of the lines to wash them off. The amount of brake line failures is overwhelming and to say the least dangerous as hell. I am sending some photos of some of the lines and will mail pieces of the line to you if it will do any good. Please let me know if I should send the pieces of line. Thanks jeff guidry it seems that I can only send one photo please let me know how to send more. . .
While traveling at about 5 mph, I experience a total brake failure. The petal dropped to the floor. I was unable to stop the vehicle resulting in a rear end collision with the stopped vehicle in front of me. It was determined that a brake line ruptured. I was under the impression that it was a law that vehicles of this year had a dual braking system to avoid this situation. If this vehicle does have such a system it did not function. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene since it had no brakes.
Brake line failure due to rust and use of inferior parts from Chevrolet. Vehicle was in motion an accident was avoided due to awareness of other drivers. In a neigborhood street, with children present very near.
Brake lines rusted through to point of failure.

I purchased this truck used approx. On 10/2016. Shortly afterwards I began to smell gas. I found the fuel lines rusted through and had to replace the fuel lines from the tank to the engine. Last week a brake line failed due to rust pulling up to a stop light. The pedal went right to the floor. A line had to be replaced from the abs pump to the rear axel. I was told at that time the rest of the brake lines were in very poor condition. The cost to repair will exceed the value of the truck.
Brake line burst below driver's door. Was able to stop without crashing as I was only moving a few miles per hour in a driveway, though there was very little braking capacity. I see in a search that this is a very common problem with several years of gm trucks. Gm apparently admitted they used inferior steel for brake lines. This is obviously a serious safety hazard.

My brake lines on my silverado have been replaced 5 different lines in 4 years the truck has 90,000 miles on it and in the last month 3 times ive lost brakes the guy who fixes my brake lines tells me the lines are rusted out each time this happens, he told me he cant tell by sight when they will fail cause they look ok but that's not the case, I've read this is a issue with these vehicle's ive been lucky so far (knock on wood) but the cost and the stress of having your brakes fail is unacceptable seeing the lines are not up to normal standards, someone should be held responsible for this issue.
My brakes do not properly function in wet weather conditions. The brake petal becomes extremely stiff, as if there is air in the brake lines. This also results in a significant loss of stopping power. While jamming the brake pedal as hard as I can, the pads never make significant contact with the rotor. I have already damaged my bumper because of this. I was attempting to park during heavy rains. While pressing my break petal, I noticed the immediate loss of stopping power. I could not stop in time, colliding with the parking barrier pole. The loss of stopping power happens routinely during rain.

Brake lines rusting out no warning no brakes. On highway with my grandchildren went to hit thee brakes went to the floor I did get it stopped and towed home but could have been real bad if my family was hurt. Only 100000 on my truck and well cared for oil and everything.
Brake line under the cab broke due to rust. I live in east tennessee in an area that does not use excessive amounts of salt on the roads in the winter and always take very good care of my vehicles. I would not expect this much rust on a safety component such as the brake line. When slowing to turn off the street into my driveway the brake pedal went nearly to the floor and the brakes were very weak. There was no accident caused by the line rupture. I called the local gm dealership and was quoted in excess of $1,000 for repair.
In July of 2018, my 2002 Chevrolet silverado had major brake failure as I was driving about 35 mph approaching a red light. I pressed on the brakes, it went totally to the floor and I was unable to stop, blowing right through red light. My mechanic told me the my brake line rusted through, and all the brakes lines, as well as the fuel line is totally rusted. I was told that this is very common in this Chevrolet / gm model era. He said if all he were to do is replace brake lines in this 1999 to 2006 era, it was enough to keep his business booming. What shocking struck me is that he told me they all fail under the drivers side door, along the frame, before the abs module. This is definitely a safety hazard that should be addressed. Myself, as well as others could of been killed when I was unable to stop at the red light. John d. Norristown, PA.
Brakes failed. Leak from corroded brake line.
Total brake failure due to a ruptured metal brake line/pipe. Failure occurred in my driveway while attempting to move the truck forward. I understand that a recall for this failure was denied for general motors trucks up to the 2003 model year but my truck is a 2005 model, and based on what I have learned, this failure continues with newer models. This recall needs to be re-opened and re-investigated by professional engineers and mechanics. I've worked on motor vehicles all my adult life, for a time as a certified new york state inspector even, and never saw a corrosion related brake failure of this nature. My truck is not a work truck. This type of brake failure can, and likely has been the result of fatal accidents. There are now well over 3. 5k complaints and hundreds of accidents relating to this specific brake failure on gm trucks.
The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 15 mph, the transmission malfunctioned and the vehicle would not properly accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the local independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission components in first gear were shattered and the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Also, brake fluid was leaking from the vehicle. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the brake lines were rusted and corroded. The brake lines were replaced and the failure was remedied. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Brake lines rusted and broke. This caused a loss of braking ability and a near accident. Brake line materials used were inferior and this presents a safety risk for all owners. Gm should replace all registered vehicles with stainless steel lines.
