Truck has 120,000 miles and on the way home from shopping all the sudden my truck wouldn't shift pass 3 rpm's and barley made it the hill. After stopping twice to let the truck rest I made it home. The dtc code was p0796 pressure control solenoid c performance or stuck off obd-ii trouble code. Several other reports are found with the same issue some believe it's the torque converter. I really use to stand behind gm but my disappointment on this expensive truck has really changed my opinion.
While driving on cruise control around 70 mph my check engine light came on. About 20 seconds later an alarm sounded and a message in my dash saying transmission fluid hot and to idle engine immediately. I immediately pulled over and called the dealership where I purchased it and had all services. Although the service representative I spoke with said it probably was just a sensor, I elected to have the vehicle towed to the dealership for repairs. The next day the same service representative advised me that my torque converter went out causing my front pump and transmission module to go out and I needed a new transmission assembly. My vehicle has 43,000 miles and I rarely tow a 3,000 lb boat. I was then told my 5 year 60,000 mile warranty expired 26 days prior to this issue. After researching, I found that this appears to be a problem with the 1500s. The dealership is charging $6,100 and gm is only willing to cover $1,800.
