2 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 02/27/2026

While accelerating to merge onto the highway, the transmission attempted a shift twice and could not complete the shift. That process causes an aggressive deceleration with each shift attempt. It then slowed, turned on the check engine light and displayed "reduced power mode" - I. E. Went into limp mode. The dealer pulled code p0747. The repair is a full transmission rebuild. I did not experience wheel lock up like other people have, but this is the same problem that has been heavily documented.

3 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 02/24/2026

While traveling at highway speed on the interstate in my 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd (approx. 120,000 miles), the vehicle experienced a sudden hard jolt followed by a momentary rear wheel lockup. This occurred without warning. Immediately after, the transmission defaulted into a fail-safe condition and became locked in 4th gear. The vehicle would move but could not shift properly, resulting in abnormally high rpm and engine load at highway speeds. I was forced to continue driving several miles in this condition to reach a safe exit. The unexpected drivetrain behavior and temporary wheel lockup created a serious safety risk, including potential loss of control and risk of collision. The dealership identified transmission diagnostic trouble codes p2715 and p2733 (pressure control solenoid performance). Transmission fluid was found to be burnt and contaminated with metal debris. The vehicle is subject to gm special coverage n242454441 for a known control valve body defect that can cause harsh shifting and reduced engine power. Although code p0747 (referenced in the bulletin) was not present, the failure involved transmission hydraulic pressure control. The dealership is replacing the valve body under the special coverage but is not addressing the internal transmission damage, stating they cannot determine whether the damage resulted from the covered defect. The sudden rear wheel lockup and transmission fail-safe condition at highway speed present a significant safety concern involving unintended drivetrain behavior.

4 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 02/11/2026

Pulling out onto road, heard a bang, no forward or backward, unable to move vehicle, brought to repair shop, says output shaft is sheared off, 68000 miles on it, looked on line, apparently common defect, my son in laws friend just had his happen getting off ramp exit, 80000 miles, I’ve read where low as 20000 miles, as well as 59000, 33000 ridiculous crap made in USA…. Please help! no repair as of yet.

5 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 02/06/2026

Will pulling camper, truck lurched with hard shift at around 35mph and caused a sudden slow down in traffic. Truck then went into limp mode with engine light illuminated. Pulled over to turn vehicle off and restart. Attempted to gain speed again and similar lurch with hard shift at around 35-40mph. Vehicle again in reduced power mode. Was able to ease truck to dealer where code reader showed p0700 and p0747. This was similar to issue found in recall for model years 2020-2022 with gm 10l1000 transmissions. There has been a technical service bulletin issue by gm regarding models years 21-25 but no recall. Dealer has ordered parts for TSB but repair not performed yet.

6 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 02/01/2026

When putting vehicle in park, I get a message on dash that says "shift to park" when the vehicle is already in park. The vehicle electrical components does not turn off. Sometimes if I wiggle/hit or stick my hand under the steering wheel adjustment lever I can get it to turn off. Becoming more troublesome. Through research I see it is a common issue among gm/chevy vehicles.

7 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/26/2026

When driving, between the speeds of 40-50mph, the wheels would lock up without warning. This happened 4 times during the month of January, sometimes in 4wd. This occurred at speed when the vehicle seemed to be upshifting. Control of the vehicle would be lost during the lockup as the wheels would stop rotation entirely and rather violently. Check engine light came on after the 4th incident, reducing power and a code of p0747 "pressure control solenoid "a" stuck on". The transmission valve body was repaired by the local Chevrolet dealership under powertrain warranty. This is a known issue on previous years of this truck with the same transmission but has not been expanded to cover this vehicle. Thankfully, I was able to maintain contorol and was not in traffic when this occurred. I notified the dealer that the vehicle was shifting very hard during the last visit but no codes or issues were found at that time indicating an issue.

8 Power Train problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/10/2026

My pickup truck has a duramax diesel engine with a cp4 diesel injection pump. That pump has not failed yet in my truck. However it has been known to fail in numerous other gm vehicles with duramax engines and when it does fail the engine comes to a complete stop and cannot be restarted. This is a potentially hazardous even fatal situation. Repair if the pump fails is very expensive - $12,000 to $14,000 in some cases. I would like gm to replace the injection pump at my dealership to ensure this known failure does not occur. My pickup truck is otherwise in excellent condition.

9 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/06/2026

My 2024 Chevrolet 2500hd duramax experienced a forced emissions derate event with a speed-limited countdown. The vehicle suddenly lost normal operating capability and became unsafe and undrivable. The truck was disabled in enid, oklahoma and had to be recovered and transported to a dealership. Prior to failure, the vehicle showed abnormal def/emissions behavior. The failure involves the scr/def emissions system. I later confirmed this vehicle has a completed product emissions recall for scr fault detection. Despite that recall, the emissions system failed and triggered a derate and loss-of-mobility event. The truck is currently at classic Chevrolet in owasso, ok for diagnosis.

10 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/04/2026

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle entered limp mode. During the failure, the transmission became stuck in 5th gear, and the vehicle operated at reduced speeds. The vehicle was turned off but failed to immediately restart. After approximately 15 minutes, the vehicle restarted, and the failure was self-corrected. The failures had occurred while hauling a heavy load and while not carrying a load. The message "decreased acceleration" was displayed, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The transmission fluid was flushed and refilled, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,000.

11 Power Train problem of the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 12/27/2025

Supposedly the oil cooler ended up failing causing oil to be pumped into the cooling system at 26000 miles 8 months after purchase. A low oil message popped up upon start up looked under the hood a noticed no oil on the dip stick and a coolant reservoir full of jet black oil (supposed to be a bright red) and a fluid level higher than the normally observed coolant level. Thankfully happened in my drive way. It could have left me stranded had the engine completely run out of oil/overheated etc. Had the coolant reservoir broke/cracked due to the extra pressure and added volume in the coolant system it would have leaked a coolant/oil mixture in the engine bay around hot components of the motor. (potential fire hazard in my opinion) thankfully was able to get it towed to the dealer before any major leaks of the coolant system or catastrophic damage (that I know of) occurred.

12 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 12/23/2025

13 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 12/10/2025

Transmission lags and slips while over reving the engine. A local gm dealer has confirmed transmission issues and slippage.

14 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 12/05/2025

First issue was around April-may 2025 when my engine started knocking and burning fuel. Warning light came on and it went right in to the dealer where I have all my maintenance done. They determined that it due to (2) faulty fuel injectors and I had them replaced at that time. In December of 2025 my engine started doing the same thing as before with the knocking and burning fuel and reduced speeds when on the highway so again it went into the dealer. It has since been in there and first was told it was the fuel injector again. They priced out the one was bad and I asked them to replace the remaining 6 fuel injectors so I didn't have this issue again in the near future. They did and the vehicle had the same issues going on. During the next inspection it was determined that the engine needed new rocker arms. These were replaced but this also did not solve the problem and the vehicle would not pass the regeneration on the engine. During the next inspection it was determined that we needed to replace a cylinder and one of the valves. After this was complete they were still having issues and then I was told that the piston was bad and there are (2) bad valves so I need an entire engine replacement. My truck only has 130,000 miles and has been in the shop for almost 2 months last year from engine issues and it has had all maintenance completed at he same dealership with records.

15 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 11/30/2025

While driving, the 10l1000 transmission in the truck attempted to shift from 6th gear to 7th gear. The transmission locked up causing a violent "buck" from the rear end of the truck. The road was icy and could have caused the truck to lose control due to the lock up of the rear wheels. After getting the truck to a repair shop, valve body was deemed the cause of the failure. A complete transmission replacement is needed. Had I lost control of the vehicle due to the lock up, my family and other motorists would have been put at risk of severe injury or worse. No warning lights were illuminated prior to failure.

16 Power Train problem of the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 11/28/2025

I purchased my 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd new from wilsonville Chevrolet in oregon. Since owning the vehicle, I have experienced a noticeable shutter/vibration at highway speeds, consistently between 70–75 mph, whether towing or not. The shutter feels like it is coming from the transmission or driveline, and it occurs on multiple road types and conditions. I reported this issue to wilsonville Chevrolet, but they told me they “could not duplicate” the problem and offered no repair. I then took the truck to power Chevrolet in corvallis, who stated the tires were out of balance and replaced them. This did not resolve the issue, and the shutter at highway speed remains exactly the same. I also contacted gm directly, but was redirected back to the dealership, resulting in no progress. At this point the issue has been reported multiple times, yet no root cause or repair has been provided. I am essentially being sent in circles without a solution. There appears to be a growing history of transmission-related issues with newer Chevrolet hd trucks equipped with the allison 10-speed transmission, and this symptom seems consistent with those reports. A shutter at sustained highway speeds raises a significant safety concern, as a transmission failure at 70+ mph could lead to loss of control or power. In addition to the shutter, I have repeatedly noticed a strong “burning brake pad” smell coming from the rear of the truck. This happens randomly and has also been reported to the dealership, but no cause has been identified. I am unsure whether this is related to the transmission issue, but combined, these symptoms suggest a potential mechanical defect. Given the safety implications and the lack of resolution from authorized dealerships, I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in investigating this issue.

17 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 11/09/2025

The vehicle experienced a sudden and complete transmission failure at approximately 77,800 miles. There was no prior abuse or modification. The failure resulted in loss of normal drivability and required full transmission replacement. The transmission was replaced with a remanufactured unit due to catastrophic internal failure. Repair costs were approximately $7,000. I am aware of similar gm transmission issues and recalls affecting comparable model years and components. Although my VIN is not currently listed under a recall, the failure appears consistent with known gm transmission defect patterns. The failure occurred while the vehicle was in the middle of an intersection in heavy traffic, resulting in sudden loss of vehicle functionality. A child passenger was onboard at the time. The incident created a significant safety hazard due to loss of drivability in an active traffic environment.

18 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 11/07/2025

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while slowing down and coming to a stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed while in drive; however, the vehicle started to roll backwards. The contact depressed the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards, and the rpm became elevated to 5,000 rpm. The contact immediately turned off the vehicle to prevent the rpm from continuing to increase. The vehicle was shifted to park, restarted, and then shifted to drive(d) and the brakes released. While releasing the brake pedal, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was immediately turned off and towed to the residence. The dealer was informed of the failure of the clutch pack, which was welded together from friction. The dealer scheduled an appointment; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

19 Power Train problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 11/03/2025

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle started to vibrate and shudder abnormally. There was no warning illuminated. The contact continued driving at approximately 30 mph. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact had another 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 in 2025, and the vehicle experienced similar symptoms before the transmission failed. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to a dealer, who advised that this was a known failure with the 6-speed transmission. The contact was informed by the dealer that the torque converters were too small for the transmission. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

20 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 11/01/2025

10l1000 transmission, began having problems with delays and harsh gear engagement. Flare shifting and shuddering. Finally starting having transmission overheating issues while towing. I had to make several unsafe stops with a trailer to wait for the transmission to cool down again before continuing to get it home. Saw trans temps up to 240°f on flat land with 40° outside temps. I could smell the hot transmission fluid inside the truck. When I went to check the fluid level of the transmission, the fluid was full but had a large amount of glitter like metallic flakes. The fluid was very dark brown in color and smelled terribly burnt. The last recall I took in to the dealer for was about the transmissions possibility of failing, locking up, along with the rear wheels at any speed. I have young children that ride in this truck, that in it self was unsettling and unsafe. But then to have issues with absolutely no warning light was concerning. Ive since ordered an aftermarket built transmission to avoid repeating the same issues with a factory gm replacement. My factory warranty had also ended a few months prior to having these problems with it. Leaving me to completely foot the bill for it to be replaced. I had to pull money from my retirement early to cover costs, in fact costing me much more than just the sticker price.

21 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

Transmission has locked up briefly during decelerations, has been making grinding noises, has high transmission fluid temperatures, hard shifts during acceleration and deceleration, and has slipped during acceleration.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while driving 45-55 mph and hauling a trailer, there was an abnormal clunking sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was shuddering abnormally, and the wheels locked up for approximately 4-seconds. The contact stated that the transmission was shifting hard. The thermostat light was illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was no under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.

24 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/02/2025

I am writing to express my serious concern and frustration regarding the unresolved recall on my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 (VIN: [xxx] ). Despite multiple visits to multiple dealerships, I was repeatedly told that the necessary parts to complete the recall repair were on back order and instructed to “wait for parts. ” no interim solution or assistance was ever offered. As a result of this delay, my vehicle broke down without warning, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. This created a hazardous situation and significant disruption to my day. To make matters worse, I had to pay out of pocket to have the truck towed to a repair shop in an effort to get it operational—an expense I should never have incurred given the known recall and repeated attempts to have the issue corrected by Chevrolet. I have been a loyal Chevrolet owner and have always trusted the brand for its quality and dependability. However, this delay and lack of proactive support is causing significant inconvenience and eroding that trust. This situation is unacceptable for several reasons: 1. Safety risk and recall obligation: Chevrolet acknowledged the defect by issuing a recall, yet I have been forced to operate a vehicle that does not meet your own safety standards for months. 2. Repeated service attempts with no resolution: I followed the proper process and visited an authorized dealer multiple times, only to be turned away each time with no solution beyond “wait for parts. ” 3. Breakdown and financial loss: the vehicle failure and subsequent towing expense are a direct consequence of Chevrolet’s inability to provide timely parts or alternative accommodations. 25 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 08/29/2025

Transmission valve body issue.

26 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 08/23/2025

In December of 2024 safety recall n2424440-01 was applied. On the morning of Saturday August 23, 2025 while driving on a two (2) lane highway with the cruise control set to 60 mph the vehicle “shuttered” then the shifted into a lower gear locking the rear wheels bringing the vehicle to an almost complete stop in very short distance. I was able to pull off the road out of traffic. Since it was a light traffic morning, no one else was close limiting the risk to me. Had there been anyone behind me they would have been caught off guard by the sudden stop with no signal of brake lights showing. The vehicle is in “limp mode” and will not exceed 35 or 40 mph. The vehicle will shift in to park and neutral. It will not move in reverse forward. The vehicle has been transported to the nearest Chevrolet dealership for diagnostics and service.

27 Power Train problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 07/17/2025

The contact owns 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 - 70 mph, the transmission shifted from second gear to eighth gear. No warning light was illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 24v797000 (power train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

28 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 07/16/2025

“shift to park” warning light appears even when vehicle is in park. Faulty solenoid in steering column.

29 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 07/12/2025

Tramsmission valve body failed causing lack of porpulsion and inability to put the pickup in park while in traffic. After coasting to the nearest chevy dealer they cleared the codes so I could drive home and take it to my local chevy dealer ASAP. The local chevy dealer refused to inspect it until the check engine light came back. One week later the transmission violentley down shifted into 5th gear and stayed there until it was shut off it would not go into park. On the second occurances it gave codes p0700 and p0747. It was towed to the local chevy dealer who claimed to inspect on 3 ocassions but efused to give me any paper work on the results of the inspection. Beacuse they never inspected it. I took it to an indepent mechanic to replace the valve body. The 5000 miles since the valve body replacement have been uneventful. No indicators of failure were seen before the inital failure.

30 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 07/04/2025

Sudden jerk power train and deceleration while driving and towing 5th wheel, immediate loss of power and could have been catastrophic. Gm has a known defect that requires immediate attention and investigation to affirm this is a broad national problem with the allison 10 speed 10l1000 transmission, specifically the defective transmission control valve body assembly. Do we have to wait for multiple family members to be killed or seriously injured due to this known defect? time for action and resolution. My local dealer tells me this is bigger than anyone knows. . . Why?.

31 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 06/27/2025

While towing my travel trailer at 55 mph the truck rear tires locked up causing an alerting situation. The transmission automatically shifted out of tow/haul mode, the cel illuminated and the following message appeared on the dash "reduced acceleration condition, drive with caution". This event happened a total of 3 times within a 20 mile distance. Because it was a short burst and I was traveling on a straight section of roadway, the risk of accident was moderate. This would have been a high risk of danger if I were on a curving downhill section of roadway. The situation was confirmed by my local dealer through a diagnostic check exhibiting a p0747 and p0700 error code. There were no cels or other warnings prior to the lockup. The diagnosis was a problem with the transmission valve body. A new valve body was ordered and arrived 14 days later. After the new vb was installed the symptoms appear to be gone after driving about 50 miles.

32 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 06/12/2025

Truck went into “reduced acceleration” or “limp mode” while pulling my camper. Took truck to kool Chevrolet in grand rapids, mi. They confirmed it is a bad valve body on the transmission. No estimated time from chevy on getting a replacement valve body. They confirmed this is a widespread known issue and could be weeks if not months. I have a family camping trip planned for the upper peninsula of michigan in mid July and they aren’t giving not giving me any indication that I could have my truck back by then.

33 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 06/09/2025

Gm has acknowledged the problem and has issued a recall on transmissions effecting 2020 – 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 heavy duty trucks equipped with diesel engines manufactured between January 28, 2019 – January 11, 2022. Our truck, a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd, was taken in to d’arcy Chevrolet in morris, IL to have recall n242454440 – momentary rear wheel lock-up – transmission and engine control module programming with sp. Under this recall dealers will install new transmission control module software, free of charge. Gm will provide a special coverage program to cover the repair of transmissions that are identified by the remedy software as containing a defective control valve. After the recall service was performed we were told by the dealership that the transmission needed to be replaced. It clearly states under the recall performed that gm is to provide special coverage to cover repairs that are identified by the remedy software as containing a defective control valve. Also, by law, dealers are never to charge for recall repairs. But gm and the d’arcy Chevrolet are refusing to cover the repair costs for the transmission under special coverage program.

34 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

While driving my truck it shifts into tow mode by itself, also on June 1st 2025 my truck shifted to 4 low by itself .

35 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 05/23/2025

Owner from brand new (16 miles) multiple complaints through ownership of harsh shifting, jerky throttle on and off, excessive engine braking, and have been stuck on the side of the road 3x due to the same situation. Never was a code thrown so I was continuously told there’s “nothing wrong. ” on [xxx] I was driving [xxx] out of denver making the climb towards [xxx] to home. As I had my cruise control set at 65, out of nowhere my truck locked up what seemed to be the rear wheels completely, causing my rear end to sway violently. I immediately slowed down and pulled over with no indications or lights being illuminated on my dash. I turned the truck off and let it sit for 10 minutes and restarted it. Having no issues I signaled back onto [xxx] and the truck accelerated to nearly 65 with no issues. As I hit 62 on the dash it again locked up the rear tires. I again pulled over, this time questioning what could be causing this, knowing the first time indeed was what happened. I put my truck into park, and still had no warning lights or check engine light. I then put my truck into neutral and then clicked the auto button thinking maybe something with the rear end is locking my brakes up. Upon doing so I again entered the roadway, big mistake on my part as this time upon reaching 60+mph all 4 tires simultaneously locked up. How I didn’t roll, I have no idea. Easily the scariest set of events I’ve ever faced while driving and that’s considering all of the insane drivers on our roadways today. I literally lodged a complaint with Chevrolet the same day I bought this truck before ever even leaving the dealers lot, and have had zero communication from them other than myself reaching out. They have ignored the problem literally from day one and it easily could’ve cost me or someone else their life. I’m appalled that to date they are still selling these trucks, replacing the valve bodies with the exact same faulty ones, and allowed to put others in danger constantly.
