Body Problems of Chevrolet Suburban - part 1

Since purchasing the vehicle on September 27, 2024, I have experienced a series of troubling issues that raise serious concerns about its design, manufacturing, and overall safety, including: airbag system malfunction: my airbags were nonfunctional for over a month. Tire-related issues: required full replacement of the initial set of tires. Persistent alignment problems bluetooth audio problems: poor quality and connectivity with multiple phones, resolved only after a service visit in may 2025. Defective seat frame: rear passenger-side bucket seat required full replacement. Defective paint: blisters and bubbles in the rear quarter panel paint. Fuel module failure: most concerning, the vehicle abruptly stopped on the road last week and required towing. I was later told the cause was a fuel module failure. Each of these issues is concerning on its own. Taken together, they represent a troubling pattern of unreliability and potential risk to my safety and that of others on the road. They’ve also resulted in a significant loss of my time. This vehicle has spent over a month at the dealership for service—astounding for a truck that’s only eight months old. These are the kinds of delays and disruptions I specifically try to avoid by purchasing and maintaining new Chevrolet vehicles.

I was driving down the road at roughly 30 mph when my fuel tank dropped. The front fuel tank strap fell off and the bolt was gone. The fuel tank drug on the road, which prompted me to stop driving. There are scrapes on the front of the fuel tank and the strap was bent. This is a huge safety concern because had the fuel tank cracked or fell off completely this could have caused a fire. Had we been traveling at higher speeds, this could have been a very serious accident. The potential for gasoline or diesel to ignite was absolutely present. It could cause a fire or even an explosion, potentially injuring occupants and causing damage to the vehicle. I was travelling with my kids and mom, so the risk of injury to multiple people was present. The manufacturers only response so far is that it was not an open recall issue so it is not covered. No warning lights came on when this happened.

I was sold a vehicle from a dealership in green bay wisconsin under the impression all safety regulations were met. The day I drove it off the lot, I had issues with the back drivers' door, making wind noise. I had messaged the salesman, he stated it may have been the door seal. Days went by, it wasn't sitting well with me, I made an appointment with a local body shop in. Regard's to the door and suspicion of something not right. I brought it to the body shop, they informed me, that the back air bags were deployed and stuffed back into the roof, body work on the left side was done incorrectly and is very unsafe to drive, seat belts where my children sit were finger tightened, frame is held on by a bolt etc. The body shop states that if this vehicle were to be in an accident, it would not sustain impact the way vehicles are designed to do so. The owner of the dealership I had bought from refuses to come to an agreement about this situation. I have all the paperwork and documents from the body shop along with another local dealership near me who I also brought it to look it over as well so the owner could understand that this vehicle should have never been able to be sold on his lot. They also agree that this is super unsafe and should not be driven until it is fixed properly and all safety standards should be met. They believe that it should have been totaled out, it is very obvious that the left side was hit and smashed in. I also asked the owner if he would feel safe for his children to drive in this vehicle and he said, “no” I have many documents/pictures/reports to share once needed.

The windows would go down all by themselves and not roll up . The infotainment system will flash on and off telling you to start strip all by itself. The door locks will lock you out and in not letting unlock the truck . The key fob is the only way to unlock it. I have taken it to the dealer five times to be repaired and they say gm software is not capable of finding the electrical problem. They just keep replacing parts. I filed a complaint with the state ag office and gm said they were not going to address the complaint because the vehicle was still under warranty.

Both back door rocker panels are rusting.

My 2007 Suburban has extensive rust that has left the frame open and crumbling. It appears that the seals on the vehicle did not do their job. The spare tire cannot hold under it. I have never taken it into salt water nor has it had flood damage. Its main years on the road were in CT and NJ. I have never seen a vehicle with this amount of crumbling rust. I have to drive 2 hours each way to see my specialists at shands hospital in gainesville every 2 - 3 months and as a female it does concern me that there is that lifter clicking as well as the oil disappears and yet there's no puddle. Also, the lighting in the cabin ac area doesn't function as well as the rear controls. In florida my last two problems deal with my problem with heat. The a/c runs intermittently and sometimes only blows very hot air. Also, what a big reason I purchased a tahoe ltz and this vehicle was because of the remote start which is not working. Is there anything that can be done. I needed a safe vehicle for my short regular trips and I've become worried and I have already had to rent a vehicle to make the trip out of fear of the cabin getting so hot. With narcolepsy I can fall asleep without warning. Please advise. I'd love to keep the truck but not if it could mean injuring someone else or myself. Thanks in advance.

Safety defect complaint vehicle equipment: - anti-lock brakes - full front air bag - passive disabling anti-theft device introduction: I am the registered owner and primary driver of a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. I am filing this safety complaint regarding a serious system malfunction that occurred during an accident in 2023, resulting in injury to myself and my daughter. As a responsible vehicle owner who has maintained this vehicle according to manufacturer specifications since its purchase on July 21, 2021, I am deeply concerned about the safety implications of this incident. Safety defect description: in 2023, my vehicle experienced a critical system malfunction during a collision incident. While the vehicle was not in a rollover situation, the system incorrectly detected one, resulting 1. Complete vehicle shutdown during active accident conditions 2. All airbags deployed simultaneously 3. False rollover detection despite vehicle only experiencing vertical displacement when something from another vehicle hit the front of my vehicle injuries and medical response: - driver (self) sustained mild concussion requiring emergency transport - daughter required emergency medical evaluation - both occupants transported via ambulance to hospital insurance claim impact: - metlife denied accident and hospital claims - denial basis: absence of traffic citation - virginia state police report indicated no-fault accident - this denial has created significant financial hardship due to medical expenses and vehicle repairs - the vehicle's system malfunction has contributed to difficulties in proving accident circumstances ongoing vehicle issues post-incident: - persistent power loss issues, multiple alignments required, compromised driving dynamics and handling, vehicle does not track correctly despite repairs safety concern: the vehicle's incorrect rollover detection and subsequent complete shutdown during an active accident scenario presents a serious safety risk.

Question 1) I’m experiencing bubbling under the factory paint and it’s available for inspection question 2) unknown question 3) yes question 4) yes it has been inspected by Chevrolet dealership question 5) I noticed the defects when I bought the vehicle brand new in 3/1/2023.

There is a technical service bulletin published (15-na-082) that is the result of insufficient welds between the bracket and frame rail that hold the sway bar on the models listed in the TSB. Recently while on a road trip we experienced heavy (almost uncontrollable) truck swaying while on the high way. I now have to find someone with welding experience in order to fix this problem because I am concerned about the safety of my family driving this vehicle with this condition. Please consider a recall for this condition.

My dash on my 2012 Suburban cracked within 4 years of its manufactured date and it just keeps getting worse. If there were an accident it is so dry and cracked it will through hard plastic into the driver and passengers. I know of many other same and similar year models that have the same issue. Now that there is a passenger-side airbag recall would be the perfect time for gm to step up and fix this obvious flaw.

We were in an accident with minor exterior damage but when closer look the frame is damaged and even bolts to engine bent. Insurance company first totalled then decided to repair with new frame . All car experts say that the vehicle will decrease substantially in value. My concern is that we have no control or protection about how it is repaired and if we sell it with the current VIN number, it is misleading to the new buyer as it was not assembled as stated in the VIN number. Would appreciate your response.

The front dash is cracking all across the the cab. The sharp points are so pointed that if the airbags are deployed it will cause cuts and possibly damage a person eyes.

I took my vehicle to have to air bag repaired and it has a cracks all over the dashboard now. I contacted to representative and was informed this is a hazzard of this vehicle. It is a known issue but it has not been addressed by the GMC company. How many people have to be injured or killed before it becomes and actual safety issue? whose life is considered expendable? if it is a known issue and it has been, in good faith, brought to gmcs attention, why has it not been corrected?.

Dashboard cracked around the corner of the passenger side air bag and manufacturer did not recall. It appears there are many vehicles with this problem and could be a potential safety issue if the airbag malfunctioned and caused parts of dash to break and rupture air bag or fly into passengers of vehicle in the event of a crash.

Starting approximately 24 months ago the dash on my Suburban started cracking. Now it has cracked in several locations on both the driver's and passenger side of the dash. The cracks on the passenger side go up to the air bag location. Cracks on the driver's side are numerous and getting worse. The driver's side cracks are such that the pieces would come apart in an accident, even if the air bag was not deployed.

I was on the freeway there was traffic I went to slow down my brakes locked up on me my car fish tailed I released the brakes and they were still still locked. Caused me to slid at least 30 feet I was only going 35. Which caused me slam into the center divider.

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while shifting gears, there was an abnormal clunking sound coming from underneath the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where there were unable to determine the cause of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 238,239.

While driving down the road a large piece of the dash exploded violently projecting a sharp plastic piece of the dash, hitting driver in the face, narrowly missing the eyes, bouncing off and landing in the 2nd row seating area. Thankfully, there was no infant or child in those seats or they could have been injured. The temperature outside was 100+ in the summer in texas. The cracking dash issue has been reported by us and by numerous other complainants many times previously. This is an ongoing problem that has clearly not been taken seriously by gm.

Dashboard is cracking. I understand the class action was dismissed. But this is so unfair that the customers have to pay to fix for problem caused by material problem.

Blind spot detection modules are bad, vehicle will not detect object in blind spots.

When I bought this vehicle in January, 2019, it had a small crack across the middle of the dashboard. Now the crack has expanded and the whole dashboard is loose and bounces around while driving the vehicle.

While driving Saturday morning 10/26/2019, the front door applique on the driver's side was blown off. This applique has been noticed before raising away from the body. I previously owned a 2015 Suburban. The door appliques on that model also had to be replaced a my expense. A price of $150. 00 per door was quoted to me. As answer to the question as to whether or not the repairs would eliminate future problems, the serviceman felt nothing would change. It is very likely that I would be responsible for similar repairs in the future.

Purchased a 2015 Suburban new from jim ellis Chevrolet. At about year 3 of ownership, just after warranty expiration, I noticed moisture in drivers side headlight assembly. About a year later the blinker stopped working. The only way to repair it is to install an entire new assembly. The part is $1,200 alone. The is not a warranty issue, but a defect that chevy will not address or admit. It is also a major safety issue. Additionally, the paint on the hood and roof started failing at about year 4. Again, another defect. Chevrolet will not address either of them. One is a safety issue, the other cosmetic. Very frustrated.

When driving on the highway, the door locks will unlock by themselves. Sometimes all of the doors unlock, sometimes just one or two doors. We have heard the sound of unlocking doors several times in the past as we drove. On August 22, we heard the unlocking sound, and then observed the doors unlocking. After relocking the doors, the incident happened several more times. This can be very dangerous!.

My steering wheel pops or makes a cracking noise when turning the steering wheel. I believe this is usually occurring at low speed�s. I mostly notice it when driving off or slowing down and making a turn. Also my truck is leaking water from the top right corner of the vehicle.

Vehicle has 49,000 and is garaged and I have had to have the hood, roof and complete drivers side repainted due to clear coat/paint failure. Have spent at least $2500 out of pocket.

Frame wax peeling, resulting in corrosion. At the current rate, corrosion will affect the structural integrity of the frame in the future. Problem may have resulted from improper wax application technique or improper preparation of frame prior to wax application. Normal vehicle use.

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that water was entering the vehicle through the antenna. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to bennett Chevrolet (6721 black horse pike, egg harbor township, NJ 08234, (609) 641-0444) where it was diagnosed that the antenna needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 50,000.

Roof mounted "shark fin " antenna leaks and resulted in short circuit of the electrical controls disabling the Suburban. Second time in 2. 5yrs the antenna had to be replaced.

Brakes wont stop in carpool on second stop. They lock up. Ive almost run into the car in front and almost ran into a kid!! dealership said it was just my brake pad and not covered byt I said it only happens in this one situation. Also - my screen/radio/movie just blacks out with no power for mo reason and fir days and then comes back. Screen was replaced once but its happening again. Had to pay 2 for to be fixed. And body molding has com off twice when front and bsck door open at same time. And window shield or attenta are letting water in my roof near my electrinic at rearview mirror. I dont have a sunroof, it should not leak! it only has 43k mikes and is warraty til 50k w extended warranty I bought but nothing is covered. First dealer told me I didnt have extended warranty. Then I went back and fkund my palerwork, now they concede I do. But they are now saying its brake pump, which they will fix, but I still have to pay labkr and new belts. They bave to remove belts to repair brake pump, which stretches belts - but they say thats not covered, nor he labor. Lots of moms with Suburbans in carpool - this is a dangerous disaster waiting to kill children. Can someway say - mandatory recall? it was so scary the first time it happened but then I thought nothing bc at higher slpeds or when hitting gas betw brakes it diesnt happens. Only during school carpool.

The dashboard is falling apart and should a crash happen chunks of plastic could go flying through the interior. The upper dashboard right below the windshield cracks and falls apart. When moving or going over a bump it makes noise rattling around. Tried to go to the dealership but it's not covered as the vehicle is just out of warranty.

Cracks (2 separate cracks; photos attached) appeared in the dashboard of 2010 Chevrolet Suburban lt above the steering column and near the passenger airbag. The vehicle was stationary in the driveway when the cracks appeared -- there was no event to cause the cracks to appear. A search on a gm online forum advised this to be a known defect for cars of this model and year.

Badly faded paint top of hood and roof top. Magnetic shocks had to be replaced at cost of $1800.
