1 Door problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that the vehicle's front doors were equipped with a plastic part on the inside of the door, which assisted with the doors being able to securely close. The contact stated that the part number for the driver side was 84053434 and 84053436 for the passenger side. The parts detached from the vehicle, causing the doors not to close properly and remain closed. The contact called autonation Chevrolet amarillo (2200 I-40 east, amarillo, TX 79103; 806-553-5681) where it was diagnosed that the door handles needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that due to the vehicle exceeding the warranty mileage, they were unable to provide a free repair. The manufacturer opened case number: 8/339/520-5303. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

2 Door problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

The door handles have cut three members of my family because the metal is peeling off of the plastic. Seat belts are falling apart and at least 3 of them do not latch at all. This is very dangerous. There definitely should be a recall especially for the seat belts. Air bag light is constantly on and the dealer of course wants to "fix" it and states that if there is a crash that it may not work properly. . . . . . . . . This after I had the top half of the engine rebuilt due to oil consumption problem. Then there is the tire pressure monitor which apparently has issues after having new tires put on my car. Nothing but problems with this hunk of junk. Will never buy another chevy vehicle.

My husband has also cut fingers on the door handles. I have two very small children and worry about them cutting their fingers on it.

5 Door problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/27/2010

Passenger's side handle of our 08 Suburban kept cutting people's hands on exit. Finally had dealer replace for $120+. Now, about a month later, my side (driver) is doing the same thing. This is obviously a quality/design defect and I don't feel I should have to pay for these repairs when I've found so many online with the same problem. Currently I'm typing this with a sliced index finger that hurts like sin. Thanks for any help.

10 Door problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/22/2006

In July 2006 my rear passenger window started to not work all the time. The window would stick part way up, or down. The door hinges also started to squeak really bad. On one day while traveling with 4 young children in the back a child had opened the window about three inches, it then stuck. When we parked he tried to open the back door, the door stuck at about six inches open. An adult passenger pulled the door open. The window exploded in all directions spraying glass on all the children and the adult. The child had dozens of small cuts on his legs and arms. I had the window repaired , but the motor worked just fine at the body shop. On September 10th the same thing happened again. This time it was my 12 year old son who opened the sticky door. (the window was up this time) the window exploded again. He was cut all over his arms and the flying glass took paint off the door. I have the car at the body shop again and they will try and find the problem. The nearest Chevrolet dealer is 45 miles away, when I contacted them they were unaware of any problems with windows or door hinges on the Suburban. Since the car has not been in a wreck and has had medium usage this problem is very scary. These cars are thought of as reliable and safe family cars, built "chevy tough". Doors and windows should out last everything on the car!!!. Please don't let any more children get hurt!!!.

Left rear cargo door of Chevrolet Suburban never opened quite right. You had to push in on the door, pull the latch, and then open it. Over time it has become extremely difficult to open. Tip top Chevrolet in fairbanks, ak, won't fix it. I believe it is a factory defect. Thank you for listening.

24 Door problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

There is no warning (either a visual warning or an audio warning) that tells the driver when one of the doors are not closed properly. The Chevrolet 1-800 number people say that the Suburban should have such a 'door ajar' warning & refer me to the local chevy dealership to have this corrected. The local Chevrolet dealership says that this is not an included feature in the new 2001 Suburbans. I find this hard to believe, especially since a not properly closed door in a family vehicle such as a Suburban could very easily result in the door opeing at high speeds or around a tight corner or in a accident with the end result being a child being thrown from the car. I personally think that this 'door ajar' feature (pretty standard now on all cars for many years) may have accidentally been left off many Suburbans or was overlooked in the design of the Suburbans, both of which should result in gm recalling the affected cars to put in the 'door ajar' warning. Lastly, this may also affect the gmx yukon & yukon xl vehicles as they are identical cousins to the Chevrolet Suburbans. Fyi - I originally notified chevy & the dealer about this starting late sept '01 & have been frustrated to date on getting any straight answer and/or correction to my Suburban.
