4 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

2008 Chevrolet Suburban. Consumer writes in regards to the disappointment in the manufacturer due to numerous vehicle repairs. The consumer stated the vehicle would run rough, the check engine light illuminated, the service stabilitrak and traction control lights illuminated when some of the cylinders shut down, the lifters were not properly lubricated, causing them to fail. The engine consumed large amounts of oil. There were noises coming from the oil pan and transmission area, 3 of the 4 door locks actuators were replaced, the rear liftgate broke for the 4th time, the right retractable mirror was inoperable, the cruise control worked about 505 of the time, which was probably tied the throttle positioning sensor going bad as well. Also, the vehicle had significant electrical problem, where certain lights would illuminate on the dashboard, there was an audible clicking noise, that sounded like a relay firing very quickly.

5 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

My specific vehicle is a 2006 Suburban z71 4-wheel drive, 1/2-ton SUV. On many tahoes, Suburbans and other general motors SUV-type vehicles, the lift gate assembly can become stuck in the locked position or in the unlocked (unsecured) position any time the battery has no voltage. In the case of it being locked, the lift gate has no manual means of being opened - no key insertion location whatsoever. (this applies also to the lift-gate glass. ) this is indeed a very dangerous situation and should have been resolved many years ago. This could occur in a crash as well as any time the battery is old or has otherwise lost its charge. Elderly folks should not be expected to climb over the rear seats to retrieve things stored 'in the back,' but even if they could get back there, there is no inside manual opener mechanism to open the rear lift glass or lift gate. There are times when an infirm person might very well have placed babies (or pets) in that rear compartment and if it is not able to be opened, an extreme hazard could occur. Furthermore, replacement of brake lamps, parking lamps, and signal lamps for the rear are all impossible without being able to open the rear lift-gate. Simply put, there should be a manual method for opening the lift glass and the lift gate.

6 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/16/2013

The rear liftgate will not unlock with key fob or interior door locks from the driver side or the passenger side doors. There is no way to manually unlock or open the liftgate from inside or outside the vehicle.

7 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/23/2012

The lift gate actuator stopped working. We are unable to open the liftgate by using the fob or unlock button on the driver/passenger door. There is no emergency release or key hole on the outside of the liftgate. The only way to unload our cargo is from the rear passenger doors and then remove the panel and release the door latches to open. We were able to "fix" it for a short time, but this resulted in a joy buzzer sound coming from the liftgate actuator everytime the door locked. We were hoping to try locking the door less to try not to wear out the part, but we have only 2 options with locking the doors (when putting into gear or reaching 15 mph) when we would like to choose to not have the doors automatically lock at all. I've found many people online have had the same issue/frustration and no recall has been made.

8 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that the vehicle liftgate and rear glass would not open. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer nor was the manufacturer contacted to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 67,000.

9 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/20/2010

Rear hatch of my 2005 Chevrolet Suburban failed to open. There is no device inside the vehicle to effect escape, if involved in a crash that would affect opening of any of the four side doors, and quick exit mandatory. I am a retired jersey city firefighter, and did not realize the safety issue.

10 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/26/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. The rear lift gate failed and could not be opened manually. The contact planned to take the vehicle to the dealership for diagnosis. The failure and the current mileages were 34,500.

11 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/04/2007

My 5 year old son was hit on the top of his head with our automatic closing cargo door on our 2007 Chevrolet Suburban when the resistance mechanism failed. Instead of going back up after meeting some resistance the cargo door continued to close on his head resulting in a gash to the top of his head which resulted in 3 staples to the top of his head. I immediately notified gm and it has taken this long to get some assistance. They offered to pay his medical expenses, which were already covered with our military insurance, and 300 for his pain and suffering. We declined the 300 because gm would not take responsibility even going as afar as to say that I may have caused the damage by pulling him out from under the door. When I asked the claims lady if I should have then allowed the cargo door to keep closing on my son's head she said I don't know I wasn't there. I want to warn other parents because accidents happen and the cargo door should not require that much pressure before the resistance mechanism works---my son should not have had to require 3 staples to the top of his head!.

12 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/22/2007

The passenger side of the lift glass separated and the glass wouldn't close. You had to manually line it up. Apparently this is a big problem but gm wont do anything about it. The customer shouldn't have to pay over $800 to get this fixed.
