Trasnsmission failure on 2002 Tahoe. First failure around 17. 000 miles. Fixed under warranty. Second failure little over a year later. Fixed under warranty. Third failure little over a year later. Dealer fixed, but said they paid for it. Fourth failure little over 2 years later. I have read about defective sun gear in trasnsmission and that they were never taken out of service. Gm would not replace the transmission and would only rebuild I have had 4 failure's in about 75,000 miles. I don't think this is normal service.

2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. Intermediate steering shaft clunk noise. This noise is a nuisance and doesn't feel safe when driving the vehicle. The problem happens intermediately so it is very difficult to diagnose. Gm needs to recall this problem and replace the shaft instead of doing temporary grease jobs.

The shift lever position indicator located in the instrument panel cluster does not illuminate at various times. This has happened on and off for a while and I decided to research the issue. I found a similar recall for this model year vehicle on your website, but gm refuses to cover the defect on my VIN. I recently almost hit someone being in the wrong gear. This matches a previous recall id of 05v055000.

The vehicle is a 2009 chev Tahoe ltz. At about 9000 miles the vehicle started to have problems. When you first started the vehicle and drove it and had to stop in the first 1/2 mile or so, when you tried to sccelerate the vehicle would jump forward and then lockup and the engine would die. It didn't matter if it was 30 degrees or 60 degrees out. It happened everytime the stop had to be done. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they said there were no codes so nothing could be wrong, gm was contacted and the dealership called back and had me leave the Tahoe there. They were told it only happened when the vehicle was first started or when it had been sitting for about 5 hours. It was tried shortly after I left it and they called and said nothing happened so they were going to leave it overnight and try it in the morning. They did and I got a call that it almost put the service person riding in the pass seat through the windshield. Long story shortened, it was found that the transmission was manufactured with out one of the main bearings, this was their answer to the problem and after about three weeks it was finally repaired and I got it back. Gm, chev knows about this as they were part of the notificaton process as they had to ok all repairs on the rebuilding of the transmissionand would not install a new one. Don't know if it was a bearing or not as the Tahoe ran fine for about 9000 miles.
The automatic transmission went out at 30,000 miles, the dealer said this is very unusual. $2300 to repair.

After coming to a complete stop I press on the accelerator, at times I press harder and harder before the auto starts to move and it then goes much to fast. This does not happen at every stop. It is either in the accelerator or the transmission. The dealer ship can not make it duplicate the situation because it does not happen all of the time.

I am starting to feel a clunk in the transmission of my 2004 chevy Tahoe z71, the gears wine a little but there is this constant clunking sound. I have met a lot of people and they all have the same problem. I know I am not far from having no 1st and 4th gears etc. . I bought the SUV used and I took it to the chevy dealer for a bumper to bumper inspection. I do not drive hard. The people I talk to said it is a common part and there is actually a bulletin out on this. Chevy will not have it but other transmission shops do.

I purchased a 2007 Tahoe in Feb. Of 2007. I have had numerous problems to date. The first was the a/c blower went out. Replaced under warranty. The tire pressure monitor was reversed on the two right side tires. Right front was actually the right rear. I have complained to the dealership numerous times about the poor mileage I am getting. 15. 1 mpg overall. 60% + of my driving is on the highway. My 2003 Tahoe got much better mileage without the so-called "active fuel management system". Then at 27,758 miles, the transmission crapped out while pulling into traffic on a busy road. I like the appearance and features of the Tahoe, but in my opinion, this vehicle is a disaster mechanically. I have bought nothing but gm products for the last 20 years but will now reconsider.
1) no events leading to trans failure 2) no reverse, no 3rd or 4th gear 3) rebuild transmission.
The transmission went out on my 2007 Tahoe ltz with 18,500 miles. I coasted to the side of the road. Tahoe would not move in "d", but would in other gears. In "3" I headed to my dealer (about 15 miles away). "3" went out when I had to slow for a light. I then drove in "2" to the dealer. I was told this was the first problem like this they had seen in a 2007. After inspection, I was give technical names of the transmission parts that had torn up inside. I received the Tahoe back in 1 week and was provided a free rental car by Chevrolet. I have nothing but the highest praise for my dealer, but am extremely disappointed in such a major problem in a new vehicle. I am supposed to receive a full copy of all work done for this repair.
1 month after purchase of my 2007 chevy Tahoe the service engine light came on. I alerted onstar as I was stranded on the road. Onstar indicated through a probe check that my transmission had malfunctioned but the problem would correct itself and the light would go off and I could keep driving the truck. The light went off and I kept driving. Some time later onstar was alerted for the same problems, I was told the same as before by onstar. About 1 year after I bought this Tahoe I was stranded again around 10:30p. M. Along side an unsafe highway with my 3 children. Onstar was called and again stated a transmission error that would correct itself and after driving the light should go off. I drove this Tahoe home having to pull off the road several times to allow my transmission temperature to cool to prevent further damage. The next morning the light had gone off and I was on my way to take the Tahoe to the dealership where it was purchased. 5 miles or so from my home the light comes back on and I alert onstar and was told that I needed to drive the truck to my nearest Chevrolet dealership. As I pulled back on the road the transmission stops working immediately as I am sitting in on-comming traffic. I quickly put the truck in reverse as drive will not work any longer to get myself out of harms way. Chevrolet was called and transported my truck to their dealership as this was where it was purchased. My truck stayed in the shop three days as they had to rebuild the transmission. I had to pay for a rental with my own money. After picking my truck up from being repaired I was once again stranded along I-95 with my children 2 hours later. As of today my truck is still waiting to be hauled into Chevrolet.
I have a 2001 Tahoe that has been relatively problem-free. Recently, the transmission went out on it without warning. My wife was driving on the highway, heard a pop that sounded like a flat tire. She pulled off to inspect the car, but did not see anything visibly wrong. Turns out, she had no reverse, and could barely reach 50 mph, so I am guessing she was missing some gears. She was lucky enough to be able to get if off of the highway, and from there I had it towed to the dealer. "something exploded in my transmission" were the mechanics words. I wondered how something could just "explode" in the transmission without warning, so I went searching the internet. Turns out alot of people have seen this related to sun-shell failure. TSB 00822b/00822c, NHTSA item number 10005474.

Have a 1997 Tahoe two door 4x4 with 126,000 miles. . . Transmission housing cracked yesterday. Upon investigation I see that Chevrolet has known about this problem for over ten years and have yet to correct the problem. I am very disappointed with chevy. And their quality of workmanship. I hope something will be done about this for the american consumer. Should have bought a Toyota like my friends said ha ha. Seriously, quality should come before profit!!!!.

2004 chevy Tahoe transmission problems third time back to dealer first time @ 21k miles second time @ 37k miles both times the transmission has been replaced car is beening towed back today June 18 2007 three days after I got the car back from second transmission.
My 2007 Tahoe has had a transmission/slip/bumping problem and it was first noticed by me about a month after I got it back in April. It has gotten worse the more that I drive it. It has 5900 miles on it and has been to the shop once for the problem. It was not taken care of and now it has been brought to my attention that this is actually a common problem and that it has been made aware of years ago in the older versions. I'm not at all happy about this.
Under normal, non-towing driving, the 2007 Tahoe (with 27,000 miles) would not go forward when placed into drive. As a result, my family is presently unable to use the vehicle and it was towed to a dealership for repairs. This occurred after the transmission was completely replaced at about 12,000 miles for the same problem.
Transmission drive gears went out would move only in reverse.
I replaced the transmission in my chevy Tahoe twice. It is clear that other owners have had the same problems with Tahoe transmissions over the past ten years. What does it take for gm to correct the problem??? maybe this site can at least help get the word out about these transmissions.
: the contact stated without warning the vehicle slipped between 2nd and 3rd gear. The next day upon entering the vehicle, none of the forward gears worked. The vehicle was reversed out of the parking lot and towed to an independent repair shop. The repair shop determined the front planetary drive snapped because a bearing broke loose. The transmission needs to be rebuilt.
The contact stated a device on the transmission broke due to cold temperatures causing the speedometer to be inoperative. The dealer informed the contact there were no recalls and advised her to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer offered no free remedy.

Power train - transmission 2002 Tahoe 1) upon starting the vehicle, will not engage in reverse and engine revs as if still in park or neutral. Place back in park several times -- or wait 30-60 seconds to engage. 2) intermediate slippage in low gear upon acceleration at low speeds or from stop. Engine briefly revs then engages.
Transmission will not shift into reverse, had vehicle towed to chevy dealer, where they repaired. Said it was caused by defective sun gear sheild / reaction shield. Drove fine for approximately 11 months, then same exact problem once again.
1)events leading up to the failure: during normal city driving, came to a red light and full stop. When it turned green, the brake pedal was released but the vehicle wouldn't move forward. 2) the vehicle wouldn't move and as a press the gas pedal, I could hear the engine rev up but not change, the vehicle wouldn't move. 3) the transmission finally engaged and the vehicle started moving forward about 3-4 seconds after the initial trial.
Fatality as a result of ignition switch being turned without a key and without the brakes being applied. When the complainants three year old grandson turn the key in the ignition one notch forward this allowed the gear lever to be shifted out of park and into neutral without the brake pedal being pressed. As a result the vehicle rolled down a driveway. It unclear if the child fell or jump out of the vehicle as it became to roll but either way he was struck by the open door as the vehicle rolled. The front driver's side tire then rolled over the child which resulted in fatal injuries to his head.

The contact stated transmission malfunctioned. While driving the wheels intermittently locked. The dealer rebuilt the transmission to try and correct the problem. This did not completely correct the problem. Currently, the vehicle will still slip from drive to neutral without manually being changed. The dealer could not duplicate this specific problem.
Noticed a humming vibration under acceleration. Had transmission serviced but problem persisted. Then while traveling at highway speed (70) with cruise control engaged the vehicle suddenly lost power and rpms jumped way up. Vehicle was then towed to a local transmission shop where it was found that the transmission cases was cracked. The crack occured due to the u-joint breaking. The u-joint could have been repaired for under $100 but now to fix the truck will cost $1700. Bad design in my opinion.
2004 Tahoe engine revved without transmission engaging** the consumer stated the transmission didn't engage when it was placed in reverse. The consumer believes there is a defect in the transmission. The consumer stated the vehicle shifted into 4-wheel drive on its own on several occasions. Updated.
Normal driving conditions: light traffic, non-towing, non-four-wheel drive.
Transmission does not always downdhift into first gear when coming to a complete stop and downshifts into first hard after acceleration of vehicle speed increases do to second gear not moving vehicle. Also, when shifter lever is manually placed in first gear tranmission does not remain in first, will automatically upshift into second gear causing towing conditions to become harder.
The failures initiated back in June (27th) 2001. An hour on the nys thruway from buffalo going towards penn stateline. The transmission blew, throwing fluids everywhere. Towed to continental transmission. Paid for the transmission to be replaced. Within the end of the 1 year warranty, the transission began slipping and bumping after 2nd gear before going into 3rd. This would occur after the truck was warmed up and following thruway driving. Once you exited the thruway, came to a stop; it started immediatelyand consistently. Seeing as I drove the thruway everyday, the problem occurred everyday. Took Tahoe back to continental transmission. They initally didn't see anything wrong and asked that we advise in the future if it got worse. We took it back and forth, losing use of the vehical for weeks at a time. Finally, in Jan 2004, the tranny just stopped altogether and we had to tow to continental. The truck supposedly had another tranny replacememt, as well as replacement of the computer. Once again, we were without the truck for 4+ weeks. We picked it up and the the next day, fluid all over the garage floor (of a newly built home!). Took it back, another week went by. Picked it up, within another month, tranny was not kicking into 3rd. . . Again. Took the Tahoe back to continental, supposedly all new parts were put into the Tahoe. Yesterday, same problem, tranny not kicking into 3rd, when it tries, the rpm skyrocket to 6000 and you don't accelerate. Brought it back to continental this morning. They called to tell me that they don't know what to do. They can't get us a new tranny, maybe a remanufactured tranny, but they will let me know after they contact the dealer. Am I the only owner of a 1997 chevy Tahoe that has experienced these extensive defects with a gm automatic transmission? this is a travesty! please followup with continental transmission, their number is 716-828-1121, ask for pat, the owner. He is just as frustrated over this as I am!.
