3 Differential Unit problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

This vehicle was purchased from mac haik Chevrolet in houston, TX. Only one key was provided during the vehicle purchase. The other key was promised in an "we owe you" statement, but never received. At some point in time, it is believed the 2nd key was used to access this vehicle at undisclosed location(s) and or time(s) in addition to onstar app access. The vehicle began to make rubbing sounds when turning corners and losing a little power. In July 2014, I noticed my vehicle seemed to shake when going over speed bumps in a manner inconsistent with the way it normally went over speed bumps most times after vehicle delivery. In addition to, the engine seemed to be idling too high at no speed and in a manner inconsistent with the way it performed most times after vehicle delivery. Also, the dashboard is cracked around the airbag. In August 2014, I went back to the dealer for inspection of these problems. I was informed repairs were made to the front differential of the vehicle and the transmission was overfilled. I was provided a statement of the work, but I felt the verbal explanation for the work was too vague being my vehicle was in the shop for approx. 2 weeks. . Read more...

5 Differential Unit problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/06/2009

Front differential started making a very loud noise. It became even louder in 4-wheel drive. While in 4-wheel drive the vehicle didn't feel right. I brought to the dealer who stated water got into the differential, and it had to be rebuilt. This is the 3rd time I have had an issue with the front differential. All 3 times, including this one, was due to the failure of the pinion seal. The first repair on 11/06/09 was covered under gms manufacturers factory warranty. The next 2 repairs, including this one, cost me a total of $1,435. 49. I can only wonder how dangerous it was driving around in 4 wheel drive with a differential that was ready to catastrophically fail?.

6 Differential Unit problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

I have a 2001 chevy Tahoe. I purchased the vehicle 2 years. For the year I have heard a clicking noise and a knocking noise when I turn and then the noise starting getting louder. Four months ago I was pulling out of my drive way and the noise turned into a scratching sound. I parked the vehicle for 2 days took it to dealer ship and they said nothing was wrong with it. Well little did I know that nothing turned into the rear end gear differential going completely out. Now I am with out a vehicle. This is while I have my 4 children in the vehicle with me on our way to the doctors office. I broke down on the side of the road. Could not go forward what so ever. Every time I would put it into drive it would make this horrible loud noise. I am not sure if I should contact the manufacturer or what. Can some one tell me anything if it has happened to you and how much it coast to be fixed. I have an extended warranty but it will not cover it.

7 Differential Unit problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/06/2008

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. At 59,000, a pinion seal leak was discovered. I took it the next day to the Chevrolet dealer where I purchased the vehicle new. Upon evaluation, it was determined that the leak had resulted in excessive metal friction in the gears, requiring a complete overall. There is no warning system for low differential fluid and leaks are not visible from the ground as any fluid normally blows off while driving. The seal on the rear axle pinion, which provides power to the rear wheels, could leak fluid, causing the wheels to seize and lock. Note that gm has recalled many similar models, but not the Tahoe at this time.

12 Differential Unit problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/28/2004

I have enclosed a letter with fax describing events. Thank you. No component mentioned in summary. The consumer wrote a letter on behalf of her sister who is the owner of the vehicle in question. The owner took the vehicle to a repair shop where the mechanic stated he had never seen a rear differential in that state and found it to be rare and very unusual for a vehicle of that age/mileage. He advised the owner to check to see if there was a recall. Upon contacting gm, the consumer learned there was no recall. Gm instructed the owner to have the vehicle towed to another dealership to have gm look at the vehicle. The second mechanic agreed this was unusual and that gm should cover at least 75 percent of the repair. By this time, the owner had the necessary repair completed.

17 Differential Unit problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/03/1999

I have been trying to get the truck repaired by numerous dealers since the day we bought it. The truck had 823 miles on it when we bought it "new" later on found out it was a "demo". Arbitration did nothing. We still have the shaking truck. Out of despiration from the vehicle shaking violently, causing me to pass bloody stools, I decided to replace the differential myself. It seems to have cured the problem. Now that the differential is out, I can see that it is bent and the axles crystalizing due to the violent shaking. Chevrolet dealers now say that I have "voided" my 3 yr 36,000 mile warranty. Several Chevrolet service consultants rude and threatening to hang up on me. I did have a very good service consultant whom I have spoken to lately who was shocked at my ordeal and agrees with me that this is a safety issue. I am now trying to get reimbursed for my out-of-pocket expenses on my "warrantied" vehicle. I do not wish to be reimbursed for my time, diagnosing and repairing this truck, but perhaps the problem should be aknowledged by Chevrolet and somehow reimbursed by them. If I had not changed the differential myself, I feel that it surely would have caused a major accident and deaths due to the failure of Chevrolet not taking care of this. I feel that before we bought this truck, someone really romped it through the desert. It had really large tires on it that we had the dealer change to what was reccomended on the door panel. We asked a mechanic who works on trucks all the time how the axle and differential could have gotten bent like that. His response was, "they probably drove it off a cliff". There are numerous complaints to Chevrolet regarding this truck. They have a complete history of our complaints after we bought it. There were no records before we bought it. Perhaps they repaired the vehicle themselves and didn't have to report what had happened to it. If you would like to discuss the truck in depth, please call me at the number I listed before.
