3 Transfer Case problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 03/26/2014

When releasing the emergency brake I heard a loud snapping noise. I noticed that the release lever was very lose and my emergency brake had not fully disengaged. I had just picked my kids up from school when this happened. I was still able to drive at a slow speed with an annoying chime going off since the break had not fully disengaged. My husband being a mechanic looked at the release lever when he pulled on it the lever along with the bicycle brake wire came off. I could not believe gm used such a cheap wire. This wire had snapped and started unraveling. If I would have pressed on the emergency brake again I would not have been able to drive. We ordered a new oem part that my husband will be putting in. This is on top of all the the other repairs that have been made on our Tahoe last year our transfer case went while I was driving 72000 miles on the SUV. The transfer case had to change along with having our transmission rebuilt. Our stability control message was going on and off. I haven't seen this message for awhile now. Only one light is working on the steering wheel these lights burnt out on our third year of ownership. A year ago while driving my kids to school the truck completely shut down no warning just shut down. I had to put it in park to restart it. I called the dealership close by they said they had never heard of this happening but next time it happens bring it in. This was our first brand new car purchase back in 2005, we own two other cars that were pre-owned both BMW they are over 20 years old and we have not had half the problems we have seen with our Tahoe. This will be our last american made vehicle we will purchase BMW, mercedes, or Toyota will be our next family vehicle. We will not purchase another gm. Quality and dependability is definitely not a priority.

The driver pulled over to the side of the road. The engine was turned off. Immediately, the engine was restarted into two-wheel drive. The vehicle was able to resume normal operation. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic test. 9 Transfer Case problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/06/2004

Transfer case for the 4x4. This was the most expensive item to repair. Gm needs to get a grip on all problems wrong with this Tahoe. Grinding noise when engaging the 4x4 you thought the bottom of the SUV was to drop out. Also the knocking in the axle when you start from a stop.

10 Transfer Case problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 05/16/2004

Windshield wipers, junk, transmission junk, transfer case junk and rear end junk. Had the exact same problems with 1997 4x4 suburban, know many people having same problems now. There should be some type of recall or service bulletin. These problems have existed for years. May start buying foreign at least they stand by what they build. Must we wait until people are injured.

11 Transfer Case problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 03/03/2004

Proud owners of 1997 Tahoe. In the past year we have: replaced rear axle seals twice, replaced the fuel pump and filter, replaced the 4x4 motor, repaired the radiator, replaced 4x4 actuator, replaced fuel injector (third time), replaced the upper intake gasket, had the transfer case rebuilt, replaced the alternator twice, replaced the manifold gasket and a fuel nozzle. Car has had recurring problem of coolant disappearing from reserve tank while no leaks could be found. When this happens and level gets low the vehicle will shift very hard from first to second almost jumping when you hit ten mph. When you stop and add coolant this stops. The last time it happened the engine light came on. The leak has finally been located in a very small hose but now I'm being told that the transmission is going out quickly and must be replaced. Great vehicle!.

12 Transfer Case problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/17/2004

I own a 2000 chevy Tahoe. It will not allow me to shift out of 4wd. I have researched similar complaints on the internet and have found many. There seems to be a correlation between the cold weather and the proper operation of that function. In a cold weather state such as michigan, this could be a problem all winter long. As a recurring condition it can be expensive to repair. Just to diagnose the problem is at least $100 at most dealerships.
