As I was driving my radio cut off an tge message was battery saver mode so I proceeded to drive an smell a something burning plus my wipers started to move on its on I try to put the car in park but it wouldn't allow me to do so but when I got it under control I left my hood an the alternator was smoking so when I did my research it was a recall on these vehicles so I'm trying to find out can this problem be fix!.
On 20170731 my 2013 Chrysler 300s showed battery saver indicator on ignition. It also emitted a funny smell. I parked the vehicle. Aaa came out, and the technician changed the battery. When the car was started. What the technician identified as the alternator starting smoking and glowing. It had been the source of the smell. He had to throw his water on it to put it out. I read an article cnbc. . Read more...

Alternator went out while driving on a busy interstate no warning repalace alternator new battery battery light want go out.
Got up in the morning started my Chrysler 300 let it run for 3-5mins before pulling off to get coffee. No issues going and returning which took 10-15mins tops. Returned home to pick up and drop my girlfriend off at work approx. 20-25 miles away. Made it there with no issues. I pull away from her job turn a few corners I suddenly hear a faint whining the steadily grew louder and began to smell electrical burning. I stopped at a red light popped the hood looked at the engine saw nothing but still smelled electrical burning. Got back in the car turned the car off then on again and pulled off. 5 miles from my girlfriends job I'm back on the highway going 60-65 the car is still whining the electronics started to flicker everything the needles everything just kept flashing or failed until the steering wheel locked up I couldn't break or gas but the car was still on and moving. I was only able to slowly work my way to the shoulder where I applied the emergency break to stop the car completely. I tried jumping the car but the wires melted which caused a little alarm because the cables where connected correctly. Got a tow home. On my own I removed the battery went to have it charged it would not hold a charge I bought a new one. Over $200. Upon connecting the new batteries neg connection which I did after connecting the pos. Connector I experienced a huge amount of sparking which actually ate away sum of the batteries neg. Connect. . . Yes ate the metal knob. . . Medal pieces like dust around it now but I don't think I damaged the battery. I checked the grounding it was all good or so it seemed. I removed the alternator took it to auto zone but unfortunately it has to be tested in the vehicle with the car running. . . Which I clearly cannot start. Ive set up appointments online to have it fixed but nobody not even Chrysler has the parts yet. . . Been 2 months. I'm just waiting.
Same problem that occurs with known recall p60 - NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000; Chrysler 300 while I was driving my vehicle shut down completely in the middle of a heavily populated city 3 lane road while I was driving at an unknown speed (35-40 mph) since my digital display screen and speedometer malfunctioned. While driving my car cut off completely with the only waring being "battery saver mode" that occurred less than 5 mins prior to my car shutting off. It appears the my alternator failed causing engine stall, thus increasing the risk of crash, since no warning is issued. Had it not been for the cop that pulled up behind me, I would have caused an accident on that street in which the police officer would have blamed me for. My car is currently at the dealership with a "alternator" repair. This repair doesn't apply to the current recall from 10/8/2014 because I have a 180 amp alternator with a 3. 6l engine, but not a 160 amp alternator with a 3. 6l engine.
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 300. While driving approximately 25 mph, several warning alerts were present on the instrument panel and the vehicle suddenly shut down. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The local dealer momentum Chrysler of fairfield, California was notified of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000(electrical system). The contact was informed that the recall only included the 160 amp alternators. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.
My cars radio went out first then ac blowing warm air then all gauges going crazy and had a burning smell of plastic. Was on a city street came up to stop sign and car just died. This could of been very dangerous. Thank goodness I wasn't on highway. I am told it is my alternator and this should be included with other recalls of alternators. I see they do have recalls on 2012 Chrysler 300 for alternator, but my VIN # isn't included in the recall, but should be included.
Had alternator and battery replaced today 06/30/2017 due to shortage. Noted numerous internet complaints about this for Chrysler 300. There is a safety recall that includes 'certain' 2011 thru 2014 Chrysler 300's ("p60 / NHTSA 14v-634. . . Fca has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2011 through 2014 model year Dodge durango, Chrysler 300, Dodge challenger, Dodge charger and 2012 through 2014 model year Jeep grand cherokee vehicles equipped with a 3. 6l engine and a 160 amp alternator. ") I checked with my local Chrysler dealership and the NHTSA VIN recall look-up tool and my car has no open recalls. However, I do not find it a coincidence that my car has this problem if other Chrysler 300's are having the problem enough to generate a recall. I had the battery and alternator replaced at a local repair company for $962 and some change. As the safety recall warns and denotes the possibility of . . . "the driver will have limited or no detection of the alternator failing, which can result in vehicle shutdown while driving" . . . This is exactly what happened to me at an intersection in heavy traffic on 06/29/17. I think my VIN should be included in the safety recall and Chrysler should be responsible for the repairs. Thank you for your time.
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 300. While driving unknown speeds, the instrument cluster flashed and there was an abnormal burning odor. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact purchased the part and replaced the alternator; however, the vehicle was still inoperable. The contact visited a local dealer (2639 lakeside dr, lynchburg, va 24501) and was informed that the parts were not available. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and opened case number: 32635882. The manufacturer advised the contact to tow the vehicle to a local dealer at her expense. No further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was unknown.
Driving at night. Noticed car was" whining" and emitting burnt plastic odor. Lights dimmed. Information (evic) screen reported "battery saver mode". Checked car upon arriving home. Burnt odor from location of alternator.
Was 4 hours from home. Was driving on side road but had just left a highway, when it sounded like I had hit something even though there was clearly nothing in the road. Lights started flashing, windshield wipers turned on. I no longer had any control of the car. Steering wheel locked. Couldn't switch gears to park. Had to coast to a stop. Then car wouldn't turn off and filled with smoke smell. I expected it to catch fire any second. After 5 minutes I was able to approach car and get to turn off (after many attempts). Turned out to be the alternator. There is a recall on the 160 volt alternator as this apparently happened often, however mine was a 180 volt alternator so was not covered. Same issue as the 160 but not covered. Nor was I aware that I had an unsafe alternator in the car I was driving (with my child).
My battery light came on when I was leaving the grocery store. About a mile away I stopped at stoplight at a busy intersection on the highway and dash lights started coming on and off, radio and ac coming on and off and then car dies and will not restart. After 5 or 10 minutes get it restarted and will barely move. Luckily there was an auto parts store just around the corner. When I pull in the parking lot, car will not shift out of drive, will not shut off, wind shield wipers come on and won't go off, gauges all going crazy and have to use emergency brake so my car won't run through the front of the store while I go into store to get help. The guy hooks up to diagnostic device and it gives a read error. (hooks up to another car and no error). Finally get car to shut off after about 20 minutes. He tests battery and comes back low. New $200 battery and starts up fine, everything working again. Pull out of parking lot and start smelling something burning, smoke coming through vents, weird sound. Pull over and same things happen - gauges going crazy, wipers on, won't shift out of drive, won't turn off. Get out of car and take key out with me and wipers come on. Have to take out fuse to get them to go off. Lights come on. Have to disconnect battery to get them off - all of this when the key is not even in the car! $60 to have car towed to shop and $600 to have alternator replaced. Why is the 180 amp alternator not part of the p60 recall when it is having the same exact issues as the 160 amp alternator that was recalled??? I keep seeing others saying they keep having the alternator go out again even after they replace it. I have had this car for 5 years and never and problems with it other than general maintenance stuff. I don't not feel safe driving it any longer.
Fca recall t36/NHTSA 17v-435 notified six (6) months ago regarding alternator diode thermal fatigue which may result in alternator failure while driving and causing a risk of crash. Also, may develop a resistive short circuit that can result in heat, smoke and/or fire originating within the alternator. As of 01/09/2018, I fortunately have not experienced a problem. The manufacturer states they do not have the parts to resolve the problem. I am of the opinion they have no intention of resolving the problem. If they wait long enough, we will forget about this recall. Would the NHTSA please intercede regarding this matter?.
Chrysler issued a recall for all 2011 through 2014 Chrysler 300 models due to an internal parts failure on the alternator. On June 9, 2017 my vehicle was stationary when attempting to start the vehicle. I received a reserve power enabled error message and promptly turned the vehicle off. Upon restarting the vehicle I heard a whining noise under the hood. I once again turned the vehicle off and opened the hood. I then notice the alternator was on fire with significant smoke. After 30 minutes of severe smoke and flame from the alternator the vehicle had no power at all. I had the vehicle towed to a dealer which replaced the alternator and the battery because the alternator had burned up the battery along with internal component failure on the alternator. I paid the dealer $ 1,274. 09 for the repair. The dealer statement indicated internal failure on the alternator. 4 weeks later Chrysler announced a recall on the 2011 through 2014 Chrysler 300 alternator for "internal component failure could cause alternator total failure and fire". Chrysler is refusing to acknowledge my vehicle under this recall stating that the Chrysler 300 is the only model impacted using a 160 amp alternator and that my vehicle, a Chrysler 300 s model uses a 180 amp alternator and is not covered under this recall. All the while the write up in the recall notice matches the exact write up from the technician who repaired my vehicle at a Chrysler dealership 4 weeks prior to the recall announcement. I would like for Chrysler to acknowledge the failure in my alternator, which caught on fire, as covered under this recall and refund me my $ 1,274. 09 due to vehicle safety issue.
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler 300. While driving, the battery indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 90,000.

Alternator went out without any warning. Battery was drained by alternator had no warning. I drive to work and everything was fine had no warning lights on that anything was malfunctioning in the car. When I tried to leave work I couldn't I was not even able to get into the car. Bought a new battery the next day and alternator drained that one too so had to go get the alternator replaced.
Alternator failed also destroyed the battery. Car was being driven on highway, then just stopped and smelled of burnt wiring. Had to be towed. Car was repaired by mcneill Chevrolet / Buick, swanton ohio at a cost of $918. 32 out of my pocket. I have invoice. After the fact, received a recall from Chrysler about this. # 17v-435, manufacturer recall t36. After many calls they still have not reimbursed me 1 cent for the repairs.

Battery and alternator went completely out at 78500 miles with no warning signs at all. Drove to work and had no lights to indicate anything was failing in the car when I went to go home at 3am. I couldn't get into the car because battery was dead. Had to lay out of pocket for a new battery and alternator plus labor when I had just purchased the car 3 months ago.
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 300. While at a stop, the vehicle shut down without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the alternator was replaced. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact later received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was 7,200. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2011 Chrysler 300. While driving, the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. The contact could not remember if the check engine or battery indicators were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to reedman toll Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of jenkintown (140 old york rd, jenkintown, PA 19046, (215) 690-3770) where it was diagnosed that the battery was drained due to an alternator failure, and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
My 2012 Chrysler 300 3. 6l v6 went in battery save mode as I was driving then shut off. It would not start so I boost it off and was able to get it started. I drove a circle around the apartment complex and the car begin to smoke. The 180amp alternator was smoking and burning up. I changed the alternator and replaced the battery. Now the car cranks and stay running but will not drive. No dash lights are working and I can not put it into gear. If I turn the wheel to the right or left completely then the a/c and dash lights n radio work but the car still will not go into my desired gear. I have lost a lot of time and money because of this issue and nowhere online is there answers for this problem.
Limited edition 75th anniversary mopar. Continually blows the 25 amp fuse for the acc, anti-sway, & and systems. Alternator has caught fire on on one occassion. Chrysler either doesn't care or does not possess the expertise to resolve the problem. Battery & alternator replaced after fire. 4091 miles later I am experiencing the same blown fuse problem. Chrysler "independant" investigator from eaa (mike sobiecki) filed report to Chrysler a few weeks ago. No call from Chrysler to me regarding this issue (there is a Chrysler case number on this). I need help. I work out of state and I-ve already broke down during interstate travel on I-10.
While driving with my children, the cars warning lights lit up and alarms started beeping. The service engine light came on as well as the fcw off message, I smelled smoke and heard a whiring sound. After pulling in my driveway, I popped open the hood and found nothing out of the ordinary. 20 minutes later I started up the car and started driving, again without any issue. When coming back home (4 mile round trip), I heard a whiring sound again, smelled smoke and lights and alarms again. Fortunately, I was pulling into the driveway. At this point, I could see smoke coming from under the hood. I popped the hood and saw smoke billowing from the area of the alternator. After the smoke stopped I attempted to start the car to move it and roll up windows but could not, the car had no power. After researching the issue, I was glad to see that there was a recall on the alternator for my car. However, I was disappointed to learn that my VIN was not included in the recall. After further research, I determined that the recall was only for the 160 amp alternator, my car has the 180 amp. This alternator failed in the exact same way as the 160 amp alternators. I was very lucky that this happened while turning into my driveway and not a busy intersection. Since this was not part of the recall, I am now out $1000. I have read similar stories of the exact same issue with the 180 amp alternators. This is a safety issue, please help.
I was driving down the street and my headlights kept going dim & bright and the radio went off & wouldn't come back on , then my phone wouldn't work to call my husband , then an icon came on the dashboard that I didn't recognize and the car started to slow down and felt like it was trying to die, at this point I had been driving for about 45 minutes and I was almost home and as I pulled in the guarge the car died and I barely made it into my guarge . My husband tried to restart the car & it wouldnt start , as it was late at night we went to bed and my husband tried to start it the next morning . It did start and he started to back it out of the guarge and it died and started to smoke and it was extremely hot under the hood then it would not start again . We called the the Chrysler dealership and they came and towed it . We were told later that day that the alternator had gone out and it also had ruined the battery. The dealership said there had been a recall on this but our VIN# wasn't on the list . Our car is only 6 years old and we feel like it should of been on the recall list . It was $1,008. 00 to repair this problem . Could you please review your recall on this alternator problem . . We really feel like this was a faulty alternator and like I said our car is only 6 years old . We feel like an alternator should have last lasted at least to 200,000 miles and our car only had 52,000 miles on it . This is really bad for this new of a car. We have loved our Chrysler and had a 2003 Chrysler before this one , that we traded it in to get this one , it was 8 years old and we never had a problem 1 with it . We have thought about trading our 2011 Chrysler in - in a couple of years but now not quite sure we'll be getting another Chrysler at this point with this problem we've had with the alternator .
Vehicle alerted "battery saver mode" and shut down many of the electrical systems. I immediately stopped driving and called aaa by the time they arrived and attempted to tow, the vehicle would no longer turn on. Brought to local dealer. They informed me that the alternator had failed and fried the battery. Since I have the 180amp alternator it is not covered under the current recall. From my research it seems that the 180amp alternator are have the exact same issues as the 160amp alternators that are currently being recalled.
I have a 2012 Chrysler 300 limited with a 3. 6l v6 and 180 amp alternator. Failure occurred at 88000. Show very similar symptoms for recall number 14v634000 (low power mode, battery light, complete electrical system failure) was told by Chrysler that they would not cover it since the recall was for the 160 amp alternator. I had to replace out of pocket with total repair cost at 1200.
