The vehicle shuts off while driving at low speeds mostly it happens when going around curves. I took it to the dealership they were not able to find any problems with it they just said they could replace the 2 fuel pumps for $900 but could not guarantee that would fix the problem. I did not have the pumps changed. When the vehicle shuts off loss of power assist steering is lost and power assist brakes making it dangerous to navigate to a stop to restart it.

This last Friday, the 11/18/11, was the last incident where it finally stalls completely and I have to move out of traffic. For over a month now, the gas gauge has dropped to zero (when I know I have gas in there) so I have to keep up with that on the side, the electrical trip mileage gauge says gas cap, checked it, kind of jittery, where it would jerk and not accelerate on the road, until this last Friday when I turned a corner, and it just stalled. Started it up, and went down the road and as soon as I accelerated in oncoming traffic, it stalled again, pulled off the road towards oncoming traffic and sat for a moment, gentleman stopped to help me, and said it might be overheating, to turn my heater on and leave it running since I still had several miles to go to get home and everyone was gone at the house. So I turned it back on and heated it up and away I went, got about a mile and it stalled again, so I went on the shoulder and coasted for about another mile and started it up and coasted it again, 'til I got to our small town and started it up, went to take a corner, and it stalled on the corner, so I coasted a bit again, and started up, and went down about a mile, put into neutral (so not to use gas and accelerate) around the corner and went down about another mile, put into neutral again, took the corner, back into drive and down the road to the house, took another turn in neutral, and coasted into the drive way. I've noticed that there is a recall with 2006 Chrysler Pacifica for the fuel pump and control module with power train. . Read more...
Beginning in July 2011 the gas guage became erratic. It would show 1/2 tank and 200miles to empty. Within 20 miles it would show low fuel and shortly after run out of gas. Around the same time the fuel tank would take a very long time to fill. The nozzle keeps kicking off as if the tank were full. The only way to fuel it is to gently squeeze the nozzle and trickle it in. The fastest it will take fuel is slow enough that you can actually count the pennies on the pump as they go up. After e-mailing Chrysler no less than 7 times and finally demanding to speak to a supervisor I recieved a phone call today,12/29/2011. I had him on the phone for 40 minutes and got nowhere. The last e-mail they sent me said the answer would remain the same, which tells me there was a predetermined answer to my problem. I asked the supervisor who called me for a phone number I could call to speak to someone higher than him and was told "we don't do that. " I cannot see how a car that is 5 years old needs a new fuel pump and a new fuel tank. He said this is the first case he has seen on this issue but I have found nearly 100 cases identical to mine on-line. I also called 7 dealers in 5 states and they have all heard of this problem and knew just what the car needs. Parts and labor comes to just over $1500. 00. I would greatly appreciate any help or advice you could provide. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. While driving approximately 65 mph, the contact noticed the fuel gauge reading fluctuated whenever the vehicle was in operation. In addition, the engine stalled twice at different times. On one occasion, the engine failed to restart and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the engine started. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the fuel tank and sensors would need to be replaced. Also both fuel pumps were faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000. Updated 03/14/lj the consumer stated the fuel gauge was bouncing up and down on a regular basis. Updated 03/19/12.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. When making left turns the vehicle stalled without prior warnings. Usually after waiting for several minutes the vehicle can be restarted. His model year was affected by recall # 06v432000 (power train:automatic transmission:control module )(tcm, pcm). According to the recall the dealers will reprogram the power train control module. The fuel pump module will also be replaced on vehicles built from August 1, 2004 through September 30, 2004. The dealer will only update the software for his vehicle . He has to pay for the fuel pump. The failure mileage 80,000.
2005 Chrysler Pacifica fuel tank that goes from half to empty and then dies, has replaced fuel pumps for the fourth time and it is happening again in just two weeks.
I have a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica awd touring edition. Along with my fuel quantity problem, I also have a stalling problem now. Researching on edmunds. Com, it seems I am not the only one. The vehicle shuts down when coming to a stop. Since my fuel gage is not working, I have been using my trip meter to gauge mileage and tank quantity. Right around 110-150 miles after a fill-up, my vehicle starts to shut off. When I fill it, it only takes about 7-10 gallons of fuel. Then it drives fine. This is a major problem, especially since my spouse transports the children to and from school on a major highway with alot of traffic and many stops on the road. There are many owners of this year that are having the same issues. It seems like a malfunction that may have to due with the f44 fuel pump and control module reprogramming recall. We had this completed on the car. Now we have problems. I was told by the dealer that this is not associated with the recall. We never had problems prior to the recall being performed.
Car stalls and reads that the tank is empty even when there is gas in the vehicle. It occurs regularly. Nothing has been done yet. I was told egr system, then throttle body, and now I supposedly need a $1000 fuel pump job. Very irritated.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle coasted to a stop and failed. The vehicle was pushed into a parking lot. The following day, gasoline was added and the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle failed six times and was then taken to the dealer. The dealer stated that both fuel pumps needed to be replaced. The VIN and engine size were unknown. The current mileage was 67,350 and failure mileage was 65,000.
We purchased our 2006 Pacifica, certified used, in may '07 with less than 21k miles. Within a few weeks the car started stalling - frequently. The first time it happened, I was exiting the freeway. As I approached the bottom of the ramp, my car stalled and the steering wheel locked. I ended up in the oncoming traffic lanes (it was early; there were no cars at the time). The subsequent stallings would occur anytime I was making a right or left turn or just coming to a stop (at about 3-7mph). The car has been in 7 times for repair (totaling more than 30 days, and has incurred over 300 miles of testing). We have had the idle undershoot reprogrammed, 2 fuel pumps replaced, pcm reprogrammed, a new pcm, once was told it was just "out of gas" - even though it said I had 30 miles to go and fuel light wasn?t on - they put a couple of gallons in my tank, enough to get me to a gas station (now I had 60 miles to go) and car stalled again after filling tank. It's now back with the dealer (6 days now), after having been towed in we couldn't even back out of the driveway without it stalling. It is currently being looked at with the help of Chrysler, but were told they cannot duplicate the problem (even though we were able to duplicate it with their mechanic in the car a few days ago). Frustrating and disturbing. This is a serious issue and just a matter of time before someone has an accident. How many cars can we continue to avoid hitting?.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that she has been experiencing failures with the fuel tank. Whenever she attempts to add fuel to the vehicle, it will not take more than five gallons, and the dial never indicates that it is more then 3/4 full. Also, the dial will move from half a tank down to empty within 60 miles. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer more than six times and they replaced the level kit sensor, which did not repair the failure. Within weeks, the dealer replaced the fuel pump module, which also did not repair the failure. A month later they repaired the full tank hoses, but the failure persisted. A year later, the fuel pump module was replaced once again. After all of these repairs, the failure has not yet been properly corrected. The failure is causing the vehicle to stall while driving 15 mph. The failure mileage was 61,000 and current mileage was 84,000.
While driving the fuel gauge suddenly dropped from 1/2 tank to empty and the fuel alarm sounded. I was able to immediately stop and refuel while only being able to fill about 1/2 a tank full. This happened on three days will on vacation traveling. I called my home purchase dealer after the second event to discuss the problem and was advised to keep the fuel above 1/4 tank and bring to the shop on return from vacation. Upon inspection, I was advised that not one but both fuel pumps had 2 different error codes. I was aware of the fuel pump problem and recall and advised, only on asking, that the VIN number of my vehicle was not included in the recall list and I was 4,000 miles beyond warranty. The full repair was on me for $600+ dollars. It is obvious that from other postings of this problem that this is a manufacturer defect and my VIN number should have been covered. I could not get satisfaction from the dealer or chyrsler. After purchasing Chrysler for the last 3 new vehicle purchases I am not inclined for Chrysler to be selected for my next new vehicle purchase.
My 2005 Chrysler Pacifica stalled while turning left at a slow speed. This happened while going around a roundabout in the road. Unsafe because the power steering and brakes make controlling car very hard.
When making a left turn, vehicle shuts off (stalls). Vehicle was completely warmed up and had been driven about 20 miles at the time of stall. This is the second time this vehicle has stalled in the past 2 months. First time vehicle was serviced at the location purchased and unable to identify the problem. This time another call was made to dealer and an appointment scheduled to have the vehicle looked at again, but with the "check engine" light not on, dealer is sure a diagnostic test will show nothing. Phone call to daimler Chrysler to discuss the issue produced no results. Csr indicated that daimler Chrysler is not aware of a stalling issue with these vehicles.
: the contact stated while stopped at a traffic lights the vehicle would stall without warning. This occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was restated and driven to the dealer each time where the problem could not be duplicated. Updated 9/18/2006 - the vehicle is manufacturers with two fuel tanks and two fuel pumps. It was later determined that the secondary pump failed leaving the vehicle with the use of only on tank. The cv joint failed which caused a clunking sound when putting the vehicle in reverse or drive. .
2005 Chrysler Pacifica - 13,000 miles - same issue as NHTSA investigation #ea06-013. Gas gauge is misreading and vehicle stalls without warning. New fuel pump cannot be provided at this time, is on backorder from manufacturer.
: the contact stated that the first experience with the vehicle stalling occurred while the vehicle was under warranty. The dealer replaced the fuel module and reprogrammed the engine, which corrected the problem for a while. The vehicle stalling also occurred while cruising. The engine light illuminated prior to the stallings. During one incident, the vehicle completely stalled on the highway traveling 65 mph. The engine would not restart nor would the transmission reengaged. The vehicle was taken to the dealers who determined that there was a TSB regarding the fuel gauge. Two modules were replaced in the fuel tank. The manufacturer informed the dealers that the modules replaced was for another vehicle type but was okay to use on the vehicle to which the part was installed. After the replacement part, the engine stalling continued while cruising and the fuel gauge would drop down to low fuel. The vehicle was taken back to the dealers who replaced fuel pump module however the problem persists.
During the first week of June, 2006 I noticed a few things that seemed to all begin at the same time. My Pacifica would not start right away when I first attempted to start it after it had been sitting over night, it would hesitate when I took off from a stop if I had been on a downhill incline and the gas gauge would drop to empty as soon as the tank was down to five-eighths full. The problem went away as soon as I filled the tank, but the next week it happened again when the tank got down to five-eighths. I called the dealer to make an appointment to have it looked at and the earliest they could take it was June 21st. The problem got much worse by the time the 21st came around. Every time I came to a stop the engine would stall. It would start back up if the car was put in drive, but if it was on a downhill incline it would not restart. I took the car to the dealer on June 21st and was told it needed a fuel pump. They called me later that day and said the part was back ordered, but they should have it in a day or two. Well, today is July 19th and my car is still at the dealer waiting for a part. Evidently the Pacificas have a primary fuel pump and a jet pump. So many of the cars have had this problem (there are hundreds of complaints listed on edmunds. Com forum) that evidently they can't keep up with the demand for these pumps. I filed a complaint with the Chrysler customer assistance center on July 11th. I don't know if it has done any good, but they do call the dealer each time I call them while they have me on the phone. I am trying to be patient because I love this car, but this is getting ridiculous. It is also having a new power seat memory module installed because both power seats stopped working and it had a new transfer case installed because of a clicking/clunking noise in the front end during turns.
For the last two months my car has not wanted to start on the first try. Always have to turn the key a second time. This happens first thing in the morning since the car has sat all night. Also, my fuel gauge is not reading appropriately to the level of gas in the tank. At approximately a 1/4 of a tank the gauge instantly goes to empty. I put in 2 gallons of gas and miraculously the gas gauge reads 1/2 tank. Now those who own a pacifies know that two gallons does not fill your tank half way. This morning my fuel gauge read 3/4 tank and my od read approx. 111 miles for the trip thus far. I wanted to fill it up but the car would only take in 2 gallons. Turned on the car the fuel gauge did not move from 3/4 tank. Drove 25 miles and somehow my gauge read almost full. I have also noticed that at time when I step on the gas pedal my car does not seem to speed up. It is almost as if I was in neutral. I have brought my car back to the dealer on two occasions and have another appointment scheduled and they tell me that they can not duplicate the problem. They claim the car starts fine for them, even if left overnight. Also, they claim to have syphoned gas out of my tank and the gauge reads appropriately to the amount of gas that was in the tank. Approximately a year ago my car did stall as I was taking a left hand turn at a low speed. I immediately contacted the dealer and was told they it normal for a car to occasionally do that. These are very serious and potentially dangerous incident as I have my toddler with me in the car most of the time.
While vacationing in north carolina my fuel gauge would read full then 2 hours later empty then would go to half tank then while on the highway with my 5 year old son I ran out of gas(according to the gauge) when I finally made it to a gas station my 24 gallon tank only wanted to take 7 gallons and the gauge said full. It is now scheduled to go in for a diagnostic test on the 21st of this month when speaking with the dealership in which the vehicle was bought they tried to tell me that there were no open recalls. I have since found out different while researching online.
On the first day of owning our Pacifica the fuel gauge dropped down from about a 1/2 tank to less than a 1/4 tank and almost stalled on us twice. Fueling the car back up with just a few dollars put the gas gauge back past the 1/2 way mark which there's obviously no way this could happen. Since that night, the car has subsequently stalled twice while exhibiting the same problem of the gas gauge dropping down to almost empty. This is a major safety concern, what if this car stalls in an intersection etc. . . This needs to be fixed ASAP before someone is hurt.
When my Chrysler Pacifica gets to 1/2 tank of gas, the car starts to stall. Especially when slowing down or turning a curve. I've taken it to the dealership twice (each time I was told that they could not replicate the problem, but I was out of gas -- each time I had 1/2 tank of gas -- when I turned a curve, it showed empty). I was told on the second trip to the dealership to document my mileage, how many gallons of gas I put into the tank, etc. ). I filled up on Tuesday, September 13, 2005. Today, Sunday, September 18, 2005, I reached 1/2 tank of gas. I have traveled approximately 242 miles. My car is stalling again. Is there a fix for this problem.
