I purchased a pre owned 2004 Chrysler Pacifica on November 23, 2013. On December 5, 2013 I started up my car and before I could pull off my gas handle started going up and down really fast, the gas pump symbol was blinking on and off and it was chiming as well. I had a half a tank of gas. I sat there and counted a total of 3-4 times of this handle going up and down. It also did it on December 4, 2013 when I started up car, I had well over a half a tank of gas. I have a one year warranty so I googled this and read stories of alot of people having this issue and saw a link to this site to file a complaint. I am wondering is it the sending unit, module or tanks. . Well that is what I have been reading. I hate to have to take it in and have the problem not solved on stranded somewhere with my children.

After my 2007 Chrysler Pacifica fuel gauge gets below 1/2 tank, the gauge starts dropping at an alarming rate. If I drive 1 mile it reacts indicating as much as a 10 mile drop. While sitting at a stop light the gas gauge jumps around between 2 and 3 miles differences. I do not get a full 20 gallon drive from my vehicle. I can fill up the car but once the gauge indicates it's empty the car will not start. I logged it as only showing 320 miles and going empty, when full the gauge indicates 400 miles. This reading is changing now on a weekly basis. I have looked on the internet and other people are complaining about the same problem with this car.

Before a leave my town, I tried to put some gas on my tank but car took only 15 dollars worth of gas. I then assumed that the thank was full and then went on my trip. I drove for about fifteen minutes and my gauge that was full dropped to half tank. It was weird but I kept on driving since I had half tank of gas. I was on the highway when after twenty minutes, the gauge dropped to empty and since the gas station was not nearby, I kept on driving to find some gas and the car just stopped because it was out of gas. When I went to the mechanics, they said that one the car has two tanks and that one was empty and one full. They also said that the problem is common to Pacificas. Chrysler needs to recall those cars before somebody gets hurt.

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that fuel spilled out from the filler neck while refueling. The contact also stated that the fuel tank was equipped to hold twenty gallons, but would only accept ten gallons. As a result, the vehicle ran out of fuel and stalled several times. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the only way to remedy the failure was to replace the fuel tank. The dealer also admitted that the vehicle was not equipped with the proper fuel tank. The VIN was not unavailable. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 70,000.

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated the fuel tank was leaking fumes. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who performed a diagnostic test and confirmed that there was a leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,500.
Gas gauge drops to empty from 1/2 to 3/4 tank instantly; occasionally returns to 1/2 full without notice. $10 gas takes gauge from empty to 1/2 full. Never know how much gas is in car. Then about a week after this started, at 75000 miles, the check engine light illuminated on dash. Took to have a diagnostic run, came up, "dealer specific code". Very similar to other complaints noted on this page.
After driving approx 200 miles on a full tank of gas the gas gauge drops to near empty and the engine stalls or nearly stalls on left hand turns. This repeated numerous times on a cross country trip. Also filling this half full tank was difficult. The fuel would enter the tank sufficiently after the first 3-4 gallons.
The events leasing up to the defect were erratic gas gauge readings, from 1/2 tank to empty immediately, then sometimes back to half. The car has stalled on a couple of occasions while driving. Being told by dealer that it needs parts that have nothing to do with gas gauge readings throttle body cleaning, map sensor, fuel filler tube. This is an extremely dangerous situation. I have an extended warranty on the vehicle however the parts that im being told are needed are not under warranty. However upon reading all of the discussion boards and looking at former recalls the parts that are being recommended to replace to fix the problem are under my warranty.
My wife hit a pothole in the street with our 2007 Chrysler Pacifica. The car was drivable after the incident, but her and my granddaughter smelled gasoline. They proceeded toward home and noticed the gas gauge was going down very quickly. They got home with the gas gauge reading empty, they had traveled about 3 to 4 miles and lost 3/4 of a tank of gas. I looked under the car and saw a gash in the bottom front of the plastic gas tank about 2" long. This was disturbing to me because the front corner of the tank has no protection.

He took the vehicle to a local repair shop and the technician stated that because the component was manufactured out of insufficient materials, it easily failed. The fuel tank was replaced. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 53,000.
Driving on the road doing about 35 mph and I ran over a piece of metal with my tire. By the time I got home I smelled gas, looked under my car, and the gas was gushing out of my tank under the car.
Fuel tank valve defective, allowing fuel into charcoal chamber, also issues with other valves related to the gas tank. Fuel module pcm and tank replacement were required.
I have had my 2005 Chrysler Pacifica for less than a week when my fuel gauge went from 1/2 of a tank to empty while driving. Then it went back up to 1/2 of a tank a minute later. When I went down a hill the vehicle stalled and had to be put in park and restarted. I have two small children and this scared me. I looked up my VIN number but found no recall, however I found this similar problem in other 05 Pacificas and I found that they had been recalled. I have my car back at the dealership getting fixed but am desperate to find out if this recall could be my problem.
2004 Chrysler Pacifica appears to have a flaw in the fuel tank. Consumer states that while driving at highway speed the vehicle shut down completely. The consumer stated a few weeks prior he/she were having problems with the gas gauge. Once the gauge was down to a half a tank, the needle would fluctuate and the electronic gauge would suddenly drop 20 miles to empty. At one point the engine light illuminated. The mechanic turned the engine light off, however a couple of weeks later, the light illuminated again. The mechanic explained that even though there was fuel in one side of the tank, it was not pumping to where it needed to be in order for the vehicle to continue running. The mechanic replaced the side fuel module on both sides, the fuel module and fuel pump module.
My wife and I had our 2006 Chrysler Pacifica shipped from charleston, SC to honolulu, hi. We noticed a gasoline smell after we received the car. The shipping company said it was no fault of their own and the Dodge dealership said it wasn't covered under the warranty. The Dodge dealership said that the fuel tank had impact damage and would have to replace the fuel tank for $1096. That's a lot of money to me. Regardless, after reading that the investigation was no longer in effect I was dishearten. We can not drive the car in the condition it is in. I wouldn't allow my wife or child to get into a car with a gas leak. I hope this helps reopen or continue the investigation.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. Whenever the fuel tank reaches the half full mark, it immediately drops to empty. The failure causes the vehicle to shut off within a mile of being driven. The contact did not notice any differences in the vehicle prior to the failure. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. Two years prior to the failure, the vehicle was serviced for the pcm module, which has been changed three times since the contact has owned the vehicle. The current mileage was 53,000 and failure mileage was 48,000.
Several problems with replacing headlights annually about three months apart since ownership 10/06, problem with engine light repeatedly coming on - was advised by certified mechanic it's the fuel tank, very expensive to replace or fix.
I left home yesterday with 5 children in the car with me to take my daughter to her ballet and music lessons. Everything was fine when we left and I don't remember anything significant happening on the drive. After returning home, my oldest daughter went to the garage to get something out of the car. She came back in and told me the garage smelled of gasoline. I went out to find a huge puddle of gas under the car and the plastic (of all things) coupling between the tank and the line leaking profusely. We took the car in for repairs this morning and found that we are going to have to replace the entire tank as it is all made as one piece. The tank alone is $500. 00. That isn't including tax or labor. I am also with out a car for the next 3 days. Thankfully no one was hurt, but when I think of what could have happened to my children. . . Not to mention had my daughter not found the leak and we had let it leak a full tank of gas out into the garage under where my children sleep! why did they make that thing out of plastic and not protect it from debris on the road??.
A hole in the gas tank. Normal driving conditions, no off road use. Unable to drive until fixed. Dealer charged $70 to look at the problem. Dealer quoted $958 fuel tank replacement.
We have a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica manufactured on 10/31/03. In November 2006 @ 49k miles, we began to encounter problems with the fuel level indicator. Even though the tank was full it will drop to empty and indicate low fuel. It then it will bounce back to half full or full. Then drop again to low fuel. It may do this 10 times during a short cross town trip. We took in back to dealer and was told it was a bad fuel control module and that Chrysler had just issued a recall (f44) for this very reason, but that my VIN number was not included in the recall. I called Chrysler to see why it was not covered, but they said since my VIN number was not included that my repair would not be covered under the recall. I would like to make a complaint that the Chrysler recall f44 did not include all the effected cars, since my vehicle is experiencing the same failure as those cars identified in the recall.
(1) vehicle driven two months after purchased used from dealer with about 12,500 miles on it ; tank filled to capacity normally, no stalling incidents. (2) vehicle began hesitating while downhill on a driveway, tank near empty. Filled tank, but only took 9. 6 gallons. When driven to the top of the red empty range, car began to hesitate, or even stall at a stop light. Progressively from that point, less and less fuel can be pumped into the tank, and dealer determined that one half of the tank is full, the other at the filler neck is part full. Dealer believes a "valve" inside the tank is the problem -- part on order. Meanwhile, I can not fill the tank with more that 4. 5 gallons, and it reads 2/3 full at that point. Car continues to stall on downhill driveway when gauge reads at the top of the red empty range. When tank cap is removed, there is a rush of air either in or out of the tank.
1. The vehicle stalls and/or turns off when making a left turn. It also stalls and/or turns off at stop lights when the gas pedal is pressed to . The fuel tank is at half full during all events and actually drops to zero for minute then returns to half full. 2. I have almost been hit in traffic, at intersections, several times because the vehicle quit. I am only able to fill the tank half of the time otherwise it only let me fill to 3/4 full. Due to the mpg rating this means frequent trips to the gas station. 3. I have taken it to the dealership 3 times. They were "unable to reproduce" the problem the first two times. They determined that it was a fuel module problem after the third time because the problem occurred with the service technician was there. A replacement part has been ordered but has been, of course, on backorder for 3 weeks. Still no fix. Cars stopping in traffic is a serious safety issue. Please do a quick search on the internet and you will find many instances of the problem. It's not isolated and should be investigated as a recall. Thank you.
Vehicle stalls without warning when fuel level gauge is near half tank. The fuel level will go down to half and soon after it will drop unexpectedly to e and will stall out before you know what is happening. Car will restart and make it to a gas station. Upon filling the tank it will only take 9-11 gallons of gas. This car has a 23 gallon tank. The tank also has problems filling. It takes 5-10 min of frustration to get 10 gal in it. Rollover ball maybe?.
Vehicle has shut off many times when making a left turn, sometimes when going straight and now this week indicator says it is out of gas with few miles til empty displayed on dash- will tank up and only takes 10 gallons to top off- it was not empty then it will start again.
On the way home the other night, something on road put a hole in my gas tank of my 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. Getting it replaced is about a $750 job. My husband and I have no idea what we hit so must have not been something large, and we did not go over any railroad tracks either. From research on the internet, I feel this falls under the category that is being investigated right now for Chrysler Pacifica's where road debris is putting holes in the gas tank. Not only do I have to replace the gas tank, I lost over 21 gallons of gas too.
Driving with my family my car ran over a metal shaft in the road. The shaft pierced the gas tank and stayed embedded in the tank. Gas leaked causing us to evacuate the car. We could not drive as it was to unsafe. The car had to be towed to a garage for replacement of the cars fuel tank.
The contact bought a new 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. After 20 days of driving it was on a residential street where vehicle shut off. There was no current to the battery. The contact took the vehicle to the mechanic, and they told me they could not duplicate it. Then they called Chrysler, and they told him that the problem happened because the gas tank dropped below half full. Also, they said that they would be working on this problem in January or February 2006.

We were told by the dealer that this problem could cause engine failure while driving.
