1 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2005 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 09/29/2017

I was backing out of driveway and the passenger side ball joint came apart. This let the control arm fall in to the rim. Breaking it and blowing out tire. Also damaged cv axle and passenger side fender. Prior to that about 3 months before the driver side ball joint did the same thing. This time I was slowing down to turn left. Also dropped control arm through the rim and tire. Thus damaging cv axle and fender. After this l checked in to this and seen there was a recall on this year vehicle. After checking my VIN# I saw that my vehicle was not on the recall list. It seems to me that this should be investigated. An perhaps more vehicles should be added to the list for recall.

The car drove great and I took it out for a drive and turned into a neighborhood less than 1/2 mile from my house when this happened. I was on a very busy road prior to this and thank the lord that I was not on that road when it happened. The tow driver said I would have totaled the car and hit someone else. 19 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2001 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 09/09/2011

The dash, radio, & cd player lights flash off and on intermittently. This occurs on random occasions, but seems to happen more often in wet weather. It also happens when operating the turn signal. The lights will dim low and will not return to a "normal" brightness until you adjust the turn signal arm. Another alarming issue is on occasion, smoke will appear from the steering column when turning on the lights. The other electrical problem is when turning a corner and accelerating after a stop, the cd player hesitates, or skips as if the power has been switched off. The suspension problem is the noise of metal and banging in the suspension. We had a very dangerous incident happen while on a trip when the upper drivers side control arm disintegrated while driving at highway speed (65 mph). I fought to control the car and managed to get it off the highway to the shoulder of the road. There was no warning or indication that a problem was about to occur. We nearly died. The repair was expensive, and now it appears a similar problem may be occurring on the right side.

25 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2004 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 02/14/2011

Front-end noises were reported to the selling dealer when the vehicle was under warranty. After three shop visits to a cary, nc, dealer during which the technicians "could not replicate the problem," we decided to just live with the noises. After moving from north carolina to florida, the noises got worse. A clermont, FL, Chrysler deal charged us $100 to check out the problem and "couldn't find anything," but they did offer to replace the ball joints and control arms for about $1100. By that time, of course, it was out of warranty. We took it to a private mechanic, who found that the ball joints and control arms did indeed need to be replaced, so we did. The disconcerting part of this is that the problem when the vehicle only had about 30,000 miles on it and that the techs at two dealers either couldn't determine or didn't bother to determine the cause of the problem. Then, the replacement that should have been done under warranty had to be done out of pocket at about 58,000. I understand that this sort of thing could be very dangerous. Now, from the front end sounds we're hearing again, we may need to have cv joints replaced. We have an extended drivetrain warranty, and that is supposed to be covered, so it will be interesting to see how the Chrysler dealer handles it.
