2 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/28/2020

2012 Chrysler town and country complaint 2/2 vehicle would having a humming and whirring sound coming from it that would cease only when the battery is dead or terminal removed. The lights would kill the battery despite being left in off position. The vehicle currently was taken to the store for the change of a tipm due to smelling a very hot burning scent and then in stop whirring sound along with display is hot in red on screen. The actual screen and middle control panel to hot to touch. The vehicle tire system signal would occur recurrently and it would cause one to have continuously check tires even if they were fine and sometimes the vehicle would need and others not. The vehicle was left with the dealer to change a tipm and work on the fuel pump not stopping even with no key in the vehicle and change the burned electrical rear window switch that had burned like October. The vehicle had a brand new battery installed by aaa. And this battery cell was destroyed by the continuous draining and jump starting. The vehicle has had the tipm put in and returned to me a month later not being able to drive more than 2 miles without overheating and release of white smoke. The car has no coolant in it and no oil when replaced immediately the vehicle burned it off and it ran out. The vehicle also had to be towed back to the dealer. The dealer charges for the new computer and then tells me I have to pay for the coolant problem, the oil leak problem and and some caliber with my wheel. The vehicle also after having a new tipm installed and new remote coded and programmed the vehicle passenger door on the right still doesn't lock with instruction from neither remote or manually. The dealer is telling me I can not fix the oil leak thing and drive it topping of the oil and checking it daily.

5 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/16/2015

I was driving about 50 mph on a straightaway (city street) when I noticed the speed reducing. Then, I noticed cruise control had turned off and the esp light turned on. Power steering then was gone and power brakes. I steered to the side of the road and turned off and restarted the car. All was fine after restarting. At the time of the car shutting down, all lights and the radio were working fine. Note: the previous recall of 14v373000 does not apply to this van as it was manufactured in August of 2010. My theory is that the ignition switch failure that was cited in the above stated recall applies to not just vehicles manufactured before June 2010 but applies to this vehicle, as well. The air bag warning light comes on and stays on for a few minutes, to over an hour, every few days or so, and, due to faulty air bad sensors being an NHTSA issue with 06 Chryslers this is cause for great concern for me and my family; for the 1 1/2 years I have owned this Town & Country I have continual problems with exterior and interior lights, blinking on and off, headlights and/or parking lights staying on after I've turned the lights off and then turn the car off. I continue replacing relay switches and parts. On, the parking lights are staying on after I've turned everything off, and; while driving off normally the transaxle whistles, screeches and bogs down when changing gears, even though transaxle fluid is changed regularly and filter is clean.

18 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/25/2010

The front passenger airbag light often comes on my 2005 Chrysler town and country when the steering wheel is turned. I took it to the dealer when this happened the first time, and they replaced the wiring harness for the airbag, but the problem still occurs. Also, the headlamps often fail to turn on when the switch is turned. Turning the switch on and off several times usually solves the problem, but lately it seems to be getting worse.

On June 28, 2006 van was hit in rear pushed into another car and thrown into an 18 wheeler traveling 60 miles per hour and no airbags deployed.

21 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/03/2005

The cruise control on my 2001 Chrysler town and country doesn't turn on when the switch is activated. I had the same problem with my 1997 Plymouth grand voyager. The problem in the voyager was taken care of when the dealer replaced the clock spring (safety recall) in the steering column. If a defective clock spring forced a safety recall in my 1997 grand voyager, why is it acceptable for me to drive my 2001 town and country with the same defective clock spring?.

22 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/24/2004

2001 Chrysler town and country minivan. Airbag warning light has come on intermittantly over last few months. Dealership recommends immediate replacement of airbag clockspring, as well as replacement of headlamp switch for an "unrelated" electrical issue with flickering instrument cluster lights. Neither are covered under the 8 year/80,000 mile warranty we purchased for car. We were charged $135. 00 to replace a $3. 00 clockspring. Upon further investigation, I found that in the late 90's many Chryslers were recalled for clockspring and many complaints have been made on later models. I think the problem is still a manufacturer issue and should be recalled.

23 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/15/2004

We purchased our 2001 Chrysler town and country new in July of 2001. Since that time it has been in and out of the shop for various odd electrically related issues and numerous recalls. We have had problems with the power door locks and even problems opening them with the key several times on the sliding doors(service dept at dealership just dismissed it as "unable to duplicate"). Two years ago, the radio got stuck on (could not adjust volume, turn it off or anything). This was the beginning of upwards of 5 times the radio has been taken out and replaced with a new unit after being sent off. This requires two visits each time to drop off the car. The latest time, they had our radio for 5 months! the console lights would not come on, so you could't read anything on the panel at night. They replaced the dimmer switch knob. They had to replace the clockspring in the steering wheel because the airbag light kept coming on when you turned the wheel. We keep telling them that there is something wrong with the electrical system but they say it checks out fine. We have also had the driver's window lock up a few times, and the automatic locks not operational when you reach 20 mph. I believe that there are several other issues that we have had, but I cannot recall them as the list is so long.

24 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

25 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 1997 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/07/2002

My 'air bag' light flickered for a month and then finally stayed on. I discovered my horn did not work, or the cruise control. I replaced the fuses, and the problem continued. I contacted my repair shop and was told other minivans had the same proble. He referred me to the dealer. The dealer was well aware of the problem and told me it was the "clockswitch". It would cost approximately $250 to repair. He informed me that my air bag does not work, in addition to the cruise control and horn. I researched the web and found many others have the same problem. I contacted Chrysler, they claim it is not a defect and not a reall. This should be a recall since over 124,511 of these parts have been replaced, at the owner's expense, and who knows how many vehicles are out there where the operators are unaware their air bag will not deploy. This is a sfety issue!!!!!! please investigate!!!.

28 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 1996 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/05/2000

Air bag light permanently on due to failed clock spring assembly, air bags disabled, also affected horn and cuise control. Vehicle suffers from unusual power drains/fluctuations, battery replaced 3 times within 3 1/2 years. Electronic door locks (four doors) frequently fail, can only service when failure is consistent. Vehicle occasionally stalls (abruptly) at any speed, throttle system serviced a few times (outside of tune-ups) with little benefit. Front and rear windshield wipers activate by themselves quite often (but never at the service shop/dealership), with no set pattern, multifunction switch replaced twice. All problems except for air bag (customer paid for repair as well as for other problems) still persist.

29 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 1997 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/27/2000

Request reimbursement for numerous multi-function switch replacements. The problem caused the turn signals and horn to work intermittently, also the windshield wipers turned on by themselves. By the fourth failure the consumer took the vehicle to an independent car center and the problem was diagnosed as a broken clockspring. After two years of the ongoing problem and asking if there was a recall, the consumer then discovered there was a recall on the clockspring.
