Failure Date: 08/07/2025

I was driving at 515 am on the highway about 60 mph, when all of a sudden drive aside headrest airbag went off. I am thankful that it was early in the morning and not a lot of people on the road cuz I did swerve but did not hit anyone or anything as it startled me as I was driving. I called Chrysler see case number below and they will do nothing about this. As this car is made you need to replace the whole seat they want me to pay for the diagnostics waiting for a supervisor to call me back. I've been icing my lower neck and back since it happened. My case 93912799.

7 Air Bag problem of the 2013 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/31/2025

The driver side headrest airbag deployed. No one was hurt, this was a replacement recall part from December 2023. This was supposed to be safe, what if I was driving my family and friends around and this happened? we don’t feel safe. I left a message with the dealer and am waiting to hear back. No one has inspected it this time yet. No warning signs.

8 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/24/2025

The driver's side active restraint headrest deployed unexpectedly while parked. The vehicle has never been in an accident. Upon inspection, I can see where there are plastic retaining holes that that had a metal retaining pin in it cracked. The metal pin was still in its clip. The vehicle is drivable and available for inspection. The vehicle was parked and unoccupied when the head restraint went off. No injuries were incurred. However in order to drive the vehicle now, the seat back must be adjusted back making the driving position awkward. Neither the vehicle nor the component has been inspected by anyone at this time. There were no warning lamps or messages presented prior to the issue. I did recently notice that the back plastic cover on the headrest was askew and figured it had been bumped loose by a rear rider at some time. However, it now seems that this was showing the weakening and deformation of the plastic retaining parts that were holding the metal pin.

9 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/20/2025

Vehicle engine exploded in the middle of the night. Car would remote start on its own as I would lock the doors and walk away prior to the incident. Also the airbag light would come off and on. Notice the day of the incident that the dimmer would disappear and reappear. Very strange I thought. The house could've burned down while we were sleeping. If it wasn't for our neighbors and the quick response of those firefighters it could've possibly burned the house down while we were in there sleeping. The van was picked up by the insurance company two days ago. Not sure what happened as far as it being inspected yet. They have given me the silent treatment. Went to a Chrysler dealership, not where I bought it. This van has had one recall done in 2015. Rear quarter vent window switch.

14 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/05/2025

I was driving in normal conditions and as I went over railroad tracks, which were not overly bumpy, the driverside headrest hit me in the back of my head while driving. It appereared to be popped out. Took it to our mechanic and the plastic that holds the retainer pin is broken, which caused the headrest to spring forward.

15 Air Bag problem of the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/24/2024

With normal use, no accident has occurred both front driver and passenger active headrest have deployed due to faulty plastic casing. One side, front passenger occured with occupant pulling on headrest to enter vehicle in the middle row. One , front driver side, occured when a shopping bag gently bumped the headrest while being removed from the middle row behind the seat. They will not "click" back into place because of a broken piece. If this deployed while driving, rather than casual contact (not rough contact!) it would cause injury to the neck or confusion in a driver to no longer be alert.

16 Air Bag problem of the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/12/2024

The active head rest on the driver seat in my 2015 Chrysler town and country. I purchased this vehicle brand new from the dealer in 2015 from the chrylser dealer in springfield, IL. No one was driving the vehicle at the time, we only notice the headrest had activated after entering the vehicle after it was parked in our garage. I have contacted my local dealer (burlington, IA) to determine the repair/replacement required. No other warning lights are shown on the dashboard. VIN: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The steering wheel controls stopped working. Had a mechanic look at it and said it was the clock spring contacts were compromised.

18 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/22/2024

Driver side headrest deployed (ahr system) while driving at a speed of 55 mph with no accident. Driver bit tongue while driving. I have found many complaints of this issue online. Vehicle hasn't been inspected at this time since it happened a little over a week ago while on vacation. There were no warning signs that it was going to happen. Just purchased this 2016 Chrysler town and county a little over a month ago and now have this repair to consider of a faulty "safety" system.

19 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/06/2024

Drivers headrest airbag went off unexpectedly causing minor whiplash to myself, the driver and causing uncomfortable head placement and high repair costs.

20 Air Bag problem of the 2013 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/05/2024

I was enjoying holiday driving with family in my 2013 Chrysler Town & Country limited when suddenly a very loud pop was heard, with a forceful strike to the back of my head being felt. Alarmed & dazed for a moment, it was observed that my driver’s side active headrest had just exploded forward striking me on the back of my head. Once off the highway and stopped, I discovered that the active headrest had actually come apart. From the damage inside the exposed headrest, this catastrophic failure seemed to be mechanical in nature with root cause thought to be stress fatigue for the plastic casement. In other words, this active headrest did not just randomly “go off” from an errant srs command or an electronically manipulated trigger short. I observed the headrest’s metal latch pin to still be in the locked or reset position. Instead, the plastic assembly holding two (2) heavy coil springs ruptured unprovoked. When this happened, the front part of the headrest assembly rapidly propelled forward. Though the 2010-2016 Chrysler Town & Country active headrests are an integral part of the air bag or supplemental restraint system, this particular failure was not due to a srs control nor electrical malfunction. Rather, the plastic retainer struts surrounding the metal latch pin failed. Being that my head and neck were static in position with a small amount of clearance from the front face of the headrest, the propulsion of the headrest forward caused quite a sharp smack to the back of my head. This led to some residual neck strain for the balance of the day. I have not experienced any repercussions since that day of the incident, but I do believe this to be a safety issue for others who may be more age or physically compromised. I’ve found through mopar tech forum and dealership research that the 2010 - 2016 active headrest failure is not rare, but more and more common to the Chrysler make. Please advise. Thank you so much.

21 Air Bag problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/31/2024

The failure mileage was unknown.

22 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/17/2024

The front passenger headrest activated with no cause. It exploded out luckily no one was in the seat. It is a known problem with Chrysler. When I contacted the company as for as the safety warranty goes, they said I missed it by two weeks. It exploded due to faulty equipment. It is literally a time bomb waiting to go off. The driver side has not gone off, but I am afraid it will deploy when driving down the road and hit me in the back of the head. I followed up with the manufacturer but never head anything back. I purchased part out of pocket to replace.

The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. 31 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/22/2023

I drive for lyft and uber and have had this vehicle spontaneously shut down while I am driving. I have had three places check it and it is not the starter, battery, or alternator. I have replaced the ecu and other items and the mechanics cannot tell me what's wrong. Furthermore, there are no codes that show on the vehicle. The vehicle on the way to the mechanic shut down in traffic and as per usual, started back up and the traction control light came on. When the mechanic disconnected the positive cable on the battery to check the alternator, battery, and starter the code disappeared and the car drove fine on the way home. I have lost a lot of wages due to this issue and now I am afraid to drive the car. I have seen on several forums that this was an issue in the 2011 recall and now it is happening yet again. My car is a 2014 and others are both older and younger, all suffering from this same very scary detail. I hope I am not injured, nor anyone else will be injured, due to this issue. Mechanics are stumped with the problem. I have contacted an attorney and my next step is to call Chrysler but I do not expect them to address this issue unless or until many people die, are injured and then they get sued. Please let me know what, if anything, else I should do. I am putting you on notice of the issue and it's being widespread. In order to make sure I cover all my bases, this issue has happened now about 4x a week, it is not predictable, nor is it consistent with how fast or how slow I may be driving. I have had plenty of gas in the engine.

32 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/13/2023

The passenger side head rest basically exploded it felt as if we had been rear ended but were not. It threw my head forward my seatbelt locked around my chest and neck we were in stop and go traffic so moving very slowly. My husband was driving he and I had no idea what happened we pulled over and examined it then I used my phone to look it up online. The head rest is supposed to have a safety mechanism similar to an air bag so that on impact it is supposed to release with a spring and bounce back to help prevent neck injury. However I found that Chrysler among other manufacturers opted to use a plastic and aluminum pin system which has been proven to just "let go" for no reason thankfully it was not the driver's side because we would have gone off the road or struck the vehicle in front of us. I had a headache and neck and upper neck pain for a few days but without health insurance I didn't get seen. We are only looking at getting this repaired I have attempted to contact a local dealership to fix it as it is still seperated and looks awful. This is a safety issues and we should not have to pay for this repair. We financed the van in June and will be paying for it for the next few years. Thankfully nothing more serious did not happen when it malfunctioned.

33 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/17/2023

While driving my vehicle my driver's side headrest exploded without being in an accident. I received no warning from Chrysler about the headrests being faulty. They left driving that unsafe vehicle with the exploded headrest for over 7 months this before replacing it and refuse to replace the passenger one as well stating, "we will only replace that if it explodes during the extended warranty period for it and yours is almost up. " they currently still have my vehicle at the dealership. They clearly want to see a car accident occur knowing that headrest could go off at any moment and was made and installed the sane time as the drivers side.

34 Air Bag problem of the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/29/2023

Air conditioning condensation leaking below dashboard and onto carpet, causing electrical shorts in air bag and anti-lock brake (abs). Chrysler identified this issue and issued a recall (k25) in January 2011, but only for vehicles manufactured through December 3, 2008. In consultation with Chrysler and according to its own internal documentation, my vehicle (manufactured in February 2009) has the same defective parts and is prone to the same safety issues caused by condensation leaking into critical electronic safety components, but they refuse to remedy the safety issue "due to it not being subject to the recall" -- despite Chrysler personnel conceding that my February-2009 was manufactured with the same, identical, flawed parts as those 2008 and earlier 2009 models that are subject to recall k25.
