Chrysler Town & Country owners have reported 39 problems related to front air bag (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chrysler Town & Country based on all problems reported for the Town & Country.
The air bag, horn and other devices with controls on the streeing wheel have failed to operate. The vehicle is a 2001 town and country Chrysler van. There was a recall for year 2000 and earlier for this problem due a failed clockspring. This is an early 2001 vehicle as I took delivery in December 2000. This is a safety issue - it appears that the problem is identical to that described in NHTSA campaign # 04v480000. Why is this not covered in the recall? a local Chrysler dealer is qoting me a cost of $250 + to repair.

My front air bags deployed while driving the vehicle at 30mph under normal conditions and were not triggered due to impact of the front bumper. Additionally, the air bags only partially inflated and would not have provided full protection had there been a frontal impact. I am concerned that the manufacturer has not been able to tell me why this occurred nor have they expressed much interest in understanding why it occurred. Fortunately, there were no injuries as a result of this incident.

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that there was an electrical short in the air bag harness. He was concerned that the air bags would not operate correctly in the event of a crash. The dealer verified the failure and stated that the contact needed to replace the air bag harness at the cost of $400. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were less than 80,000.

2002-2006 Dodge caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, air bag failure through defective steering clockspring part. This is still an ongoing defect that inactivate the airbag system. I am actively involved in a auto repair forum and the total number of clockspring failures is extremely high. This is from normal usage, not from any person damaging it. Chrysler in the past year models has offered to repair them. But now refuses. I have replaced mine for $300+ collision catalog - 2005 - Chrysler - town and country restraint systems, air bag components, clockspring.
In my 2001 Chrysler town and country minivan the horn, cruise control, and airbag have stopped working. I understand this is a common problem due to a broken clockspring in the steering wheel assembly, and that Chrysler recalled previous models with this same defect. Driving without a horn and reliable airbag clearly presents a safety risk. I believe a recall or free repair is in order.
My 2001 Chrysler Town & Country suffered a complete transmission failure. I bought this vehicle new in 2001 and thought I was buying the best Mini-van for the money. However, I've had nothing but problems with this vehicle. Power windows have failed, power sliding door has failed 3 times, power lift gate failed, air bags caused a check engine light to come on ( replaced under warranty). All of these were minor in comparison to the transmission, which cost me $3078 to have rebuilt. I've found too many instances of transmission failures on the internet, I question why Chrysler hasn't been called out on this by the NHTSA. Chrysler knows about the quality of their vehicles and continues to do nothing about it. In the future I will never buy another Chrysler product.
I hit a pothole and the airbags deployed.

I read about a recall on the clockspring on 2000 Chrysler t&c vans. It stated it ran from until Aug 2000. My van is a 2001 Chrysler t&c manufactured in 8/2000. I have this same clockspring failure that causes the airbag not to function. I have tried to talk to Chrysler to no avail. It just seems that they had some bad parts during that time and possibly those parts were also put on some of the 2001 vans manufactured in 8/2000. The dealer said that this clockspring failure is a common event. It seems to be a safety issue.
Front passenger seat back broke during a rear end collision
seat belts did not deploy when the car impacted a vehicle in front of it
driver seat belt did not protect driver from hitting the top of the car with his head, and also caused a bruise on the left arm which contacted the upper seat belt bracket.

I was involved in a front end collision an the air bag failed to inflate on my 2005 Chrysler Mini van.
I have a Chrysler Town & Country lx 2005, unfortunately I had an accident, I received a lateral impact from a car that passed a red light and we were projected to the opposite corner where we finally stopped because we crashed against a pole that was over the sidewalk. My concern is that even though we had a frontal impact, air bags did not open (we broke the pole). The advertising from Chrysler says that minivans scored the 5 stars from NHTSA. I do not feel secure any more in that vehicle and I was wondering if there is a warranty against air bags failures; what can I do? I do not want that minivan anymore; I do not feel that my family could be safe in case of accident.
1. 3rd replacement of clockspring in air bag system (at dealer right now)
2. Transmission coolant lines rusted out resulting in loss of transmission fluid to transmission and vehicle while driving.

I was a front seat passenger in a 2005 Chrysler minivan which was a rental. We were in an accident in which there was significant front end damage. My seat belt did not lock on impact and I flew into the windshield. Also, my airbag deployed late as we were rolling to a stop, therefore my knee slammed into the dash. According to records, this model van has a recall, but it was not purchased until 6/05 well after the recall it appears. Please advise.
The clockspring has failed in my 1996 Chrysler Town & Country rendering the air bag useless, the horn useless and the cruise control useless. I am scared to use this vehicle to transport my family.

No crash involved. . . Noticed after a rainstorm here on the coast, that there was the sound of water rolling back and forth in the dash area when I was driving. . Not only that, but there was a significant(huge flood) of water coming into the passenger compartment from the dash area immediately in front of the passenger seat. . . Enough water that my carpeting was completely soaked, and ruined. After this happened many times. . I finally figured out what it was. . There is some sort of drain hose to a water collection reservoir under the windshield. . . Which can be disconnected to drain, but in the event of debris washing into it. . . Would clog up and overflow. . Resulting in the described condition. . This is very poor design in my opinion. . Some of folks I have had this to. . Did not have a clue what was going on. . . I have not said anything to Chrysler about this. . . But think it is not just me who has the issue. . And it also could be a contributor to some of the other issues I have read about. . Particularly the condensation issue and the airbag issue. . I am concerned that the electronics will fail. . . Please advise. . . I am picking a random date when it first happened. . . Also. . Has occurred many times since unless I clean the drain hoses. . . Never had this happen on any other vehicle. . . ?.

The clock spring was detective. The vehicle was under an extended warranty. However, the dealer would not honor the warranty or make the repairs unless the owner pays out of pocket. There were noise in the front end when turning.
While vehicle was parked dual airbags deployed inadvertently.
Clock spring defect in steering column that disabled airbag when making turns.
A recall was issued on November 4, 2002 for Chrysler town and country Mini vans 1996-1998 model years. Situation: the clockspring on about 1,475,000 of the affected vehicles may lose the electrical connection to the steering wheel mounted electrical components. [NHTSA recall no. 02v293/daimlerchrysler recall no. B24] my 1999 town and country Mini van has the same exact problem. This poses a serious problem for me and my family's safety. I don't understand why my van is not covered. It is only logical that other year vans even newer than the recall years be covered. Mine was built 6 months after recall end. Considering the recall of over 1. 5 million other units. It only makes sense that the 1999 model year was also put together wrong also. I have written to daimler Chrysler but was turned down by: andrew miller senior staff representative daimlerchrysler customer assistance center he gave me the typle corporate reply in trying to get off the hook. Is there anyting you can do?.
No were parts available, regarding recall#02v293000. Frontal air bags.
While sitting at an intersection another vehicle rear end into his vehicle . The airbags didn't deploy at all and the dealership is aware of the problem. Ts.
While starting the vehicle srs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the clock spring needed to be replaced.
While traveling on highway and without prior warning there was a small collision. Upon impact, airbags didn't deploy. Dealership is aware of problem.
Vehicle was involved in a rear end collision at 45 mph or less and neither air bag deployed. Dealer and manufacturer have not been notified at this time. Feel free to provide any further information.
The "clock spring" should be covered, but manufacturer says they won't warranty it. Inspite of service contract. *** dims 11 ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****755758.
Clockspring replacement. After the consumer paid for the repairs, he received a recall letter in the mail regarding the clock spring and is now requesting reimbursement. The radio was inoperative.
While driving 55-60 mph vehicle was hit on side, went down a ravine and hit a tree front at an angle. Neither airbag deployed, vehicle was totalled.
While driving at 50 mph on highway in rush hour, side impact airbag on passenger side deployed without any warning . Chrysler sent out an investagator, but did not inform consumer of cause.
Clockspring ribbon wire broke disabling both front air bags, the horn and the cruise control. Clockspring ribbon conductors both severed and shorted to each other. Disassembly of mechanism found that ribbon wire was stuck together and not able to flex and rotate with steel wheel rotation. It appears that the lubricant used in the clockspring assembly degraded and glued the ribbon together. Free end of ribbon flexed back and forth during steering wheel movement until it folded over on itself (180 degree fold) and eventually failed. Vehicle operated in phoenix, arizona for the past four years. Extreme summer heat may have caused lubricant breakdown.
Clockspring assembly repaired three times. (nar) the consumer had made several attempts to have the malfunction on vehicle fixed, however the continued. The consumer is seeking reimbursement for repairs because the vehicle was defective .
While driving on highway travelling 30mph on icy roads, ems going the opposite direction, lost control and hit another vehicle which collided into consumer's vehicle. Upon impact, neither airbag deployed.
