3 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

My 17 year old son was driving the car; he applied the brakes while approaching a red light and the pedal went to the floor. He was driving slow enough and started braking soon enough that he was able to stop the car prior to the intersection by pumping the brake pedal vigorously. Both of the solid front brake lines had rusted out at the connection points with the flexible hoses. . . I had previously replaced the rear brake lines due to similar rusting problems (3 years ago), and did ask the dealer to inspect the front brake lines about a year ago prior to letting my son drive the 'old' minivan; the brake lines were given a clean bill of health. . .

9 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/01/2009

In October 2008 my left rear brake line appeared to have been cut and was reported to police. However they were uncertain if that was the case and I have pictures of this incident. It was replaced at that time and again today - almost 14 months to the day later and about 12,000 miles later, the very same brake line broke while I was driving and I came within inches of rear-ending someone. After speaking with the service provider, it was determined that in his mind it is a very bad design and a huge safety hazard. I again have pictures and the part in question with me.

10 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/08/2009

We purchased our van new with 20 miles on it. I noticed shaking a little when braking. We took it back to the Chrysler dealer for them to tell us we needed new brakes and rotors. They did replace them at no cost because it was so new, but the only explanation was that sometimes this happens when shipping. They get warped we were told. A year later we had the same problem. I was told that these vans are known for this. I had to replace the brake pads, rotors resurfaced and the rear brakes cleaned and adjusted. It cost us $260. 00. No explanation why at 22140 miles! we are now at 33421 miles and once again having the same problem not even a year later. This time the pads were gone it was metal on metal and we were told the brake line had collapsed and would have to be replaced. This is now going to cost $360. 00. I'm afraid to ask what's next. This is a death trap. The only warning I had was a little bit of shaking when braking at high speeds. No other warning! I think I'll stick to the foreign cars we've bought in the past. That's why Chrysler is bankrupt. This is the second american car we've had with nothing, but problems. The other one we lemon law!.

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country. While driving approximately 10 mph on normal road conditions, the brake pedal extended to the floor without resistance when it was depressed. The vehicle failed to slow down after several attempts and there was a loss of brake line pressure. Immediately, the driver swerved and mounted the vehicle on the curbside. The vehicle came to a complete stop. In addition, the engine warning indicator illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. There were no injuries, but the front bumper and both headlight bulbs were damaged. The vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for inspection, but they could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 15,000. Updated 06/12/09.

13 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/22/2008

1998 Chrysler town and country mileage: 75,000 complete brake failure - pedal all the way to the floor - unsafe to drive. Towed to the dealer - diagnosis : corroded rear brake line. Being repaired now - will ask for old part to be saved. Brake lines should last for life of vehicle. Dealer/manufacturer should be responsible for this faulty defective brake line. Nhtsa should required Chrysler to notify all owners of the possibility of complete brake failure. I have read of many other occurrences with the brake lines on this car. It has been suggested that the problem arises as a result of bi-metal reaction where stainless steel and steel lines are welded together. This vehicle was at the dealer for other work just five months prior and I was not notified that the brake lines were in danger!.

17 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/09/2007

As I backed out of my downward sloping driveway the brake pedal went to the floor and it was necessary to apply emergency brake to prevent entry into the street. Visual inspection of the rear brake lines revealed rust/corrosion on both sides of the flexible stainless steel segments which are located about 1 foot to the rear of the abs module. One of these sections had ruptured causing the loss of braking. I have removed the line from the abs module and cut it about a foot from the rupture. I have pre-removal pictures of these areas and the affected parts are available. Repairs will be made to both the ruptured line and to the other rear brake line as it looks that one will fail shortly if used.

18 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/13/2007

Sudden premature failure of both rear service brake hydraulic lines resulted in loss of all brake fluid in a very short time (minutes from first illumination of brake warning light). Failure was due to corrosion from dissimilar metals at the junction of the flexible braided brake line to the rigid brake line for both rear brake systems.

20 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/03/2007

On Saturday, March 3, 2007, I experienced a sudden loss of my brakes upon stopping at a stop sign at a four-way controlled intersection. A pick-up truck on my right side had the right-of-way and had begun to proceed through when my 2000 Town & Country lxi brakes failed and went through the stop sign. Fortunately, the other driver was able to stop without incident. I had my minivan towed to our mechanic who found the brake lines were both severely corroded/rusted, one totally through the metal, the other nearly so. Both were replaced at a cost of over 600. 00. The corrosion problem is electrolysis, the result of the joining of two different metals in the construction of the brake lines. This design flaw resulted in a potentially deadly loss of the brakes. My mechanic can communicate his findings if needed to your personnel. The fact that the parts service he uses stocks this item is telling in that there is an apparent need for the replacement of the lines on a regular enough basis to stock the parts. I have contacted daimler Chrysler with this information. I hope something can be done to instigate a recall on this problem as I am concerned about the potential loss of life that could result. 24 hours before this brake failure, I was driving the freeway from milwaukee to oshkosh, wisconsin and back with my 17-year-old for an appointment at the university of wisconsin oshkosh for his admission to the music business program in the fall of 2007 semester. We were in blowing snow on a completely snow-covered highway the entire distance. It is truly a miracle that no harm came to anyone. We lost our two oldest sons, as teenagers, in a deadly car crash and would not wish this tragedy on anyone. This was an extremely close call for our family and I hope that no deaths have to occur before this issue is addressed. This design flaw is one that others have experienced as well and deserves close scrutiny. Thank you for any attention to this matter.

21 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

The contact owns a 2000 Chrysler Town & Country. While attempting to engage the brake pedal it began to tighten and the brake line ruptured. Also, the dealer confirmed that the brake line ruptured. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current and failure mileage was 57. 000. The consumer stated that the most upsetting thing is the treatment he received from the dealer. Updated 07/25/07.

22 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/21/2006

When applying brakes, pedal sank almost to the floor indicating a fluid leak. Brakes barely worked at all and limped to chysler dealer who found ruptured rigid brake line where it joins to a short braided flexible section. Two long rigid brake lines that run nearly the length of the vehicle were replaced and as requested old parts were returned to me. Only in the immediate area where the flexible line joins the rigid lines was there severe rust and corrosion. One of the lines had rusted through and ruptured at this point. The rest of the rigid lines were free of corrosion. The vehicle is 5 years old with 100,000 miles in a relatively low salt environment, there should not be severe corrosion at this time causing brake failure. The joint area between the flex line and the rigid line is a design fault that should be addressed. Photographs and the replaced parts are available for examination.

Owner of the vehicle Mini van town and country limited 2005, imported from the united states, delivery of darmley Chrysler services DE mexico, s. A. De c. V. , which was acquired in fame querãƒâ©taro, s. A. De c. V. Mexico. On June the 10th. 2006 traveling with my family I pushed the brake pedal to stop and it went on and on without stopping, until the vehicle lost velocity and stopped by itself. Last Monday the car was sent for repair and taken to the dealer in queretaro city with the order number 151713. 24 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1996 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/11/2005

Failure of both rear brake hydraulic lines causing sudden loss of brake fluid making emergency brake only operable stopping device. Saved old lines. Both lines appear to have rusted through. Mechanic believes problem is with design in how lines are routed above gas tank approximately two feet ahead of left rear wheel. The position of the lines allows road salt and other corrosives to be collected on the steel surface of the hydraulic lines, thus leading to their eminent failure. Please note low mileage of vehicle. Mechanic repaired vehicle by installing new lines, but routed them in a position less susceptible to corrosion. Failure was preceded by noticeable leaking of brake fluid on garage floor. Ultimate failure occurred when vehicle was brought in for inspection/repair. Lines burst when mechanic tested brakes by pressing hard on brake pedal while it was parked. Brake fluid spilled out all over service floor. Actual repair cost: $289. 02.

25 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/15/2003

On Friday afternoon may 30 my brakes suddenly failed as I was leaving one stop light intersection and stopping for another. Luckily I was only traveling at about 10 mph and by pumping brakes, gearing down and steering, I was able to avoid an accident. On inspecting my vehicle, under the driver?s side I found a leak in the brake line where the braided gas line joins with the steel gas line. There are 2 braided lines with connections at both ends to 2 steel lines. All 4 connections show extensive corrosion at the joint. The problem appears to be caused by galvanic action between 2 dissimilar metals at the joint. I contacted the dealer neuwirth motors in wilmington nc and will have the car towed in on Monday. As of this point I do not have a problem with the dealer or Chrysler concerning the repair. My concern is, if I had been traveling at a regular highway speed and had to stop my family and I could have been seriously injured or killed. There was no previous warning or indication that there was a problem. If the same lines I observed under my car is standard, and I believe it is, then Chrysler has a death trap traveling the highway waiting to kill or injure thousands of other town and country owners. I have attached the 4 pictures that I took from underneath the vehicle (2000 Chrysler town and country). The line that actually went out is the bottom line shown in picture 2 and 3. Luckily I had just left a stop light at one intersection and stopping for another light about 10 car lengths up. My speed was about 10 mph so I was able to stop and miss the car ahead by using my emergency brake, gears and steering. Basically I went from fully working brakes to no brakes at all. I had an extended warranty so it was fixed and all I paid was the $100 deductible. I called the service center and spoke with a female representative. I asked if they would investigate my complained. She said no only if there was an accident would they investigate.
