2 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/31/2018

The brakes failed while in rush hour traffic. While at a light several cars back the brake pedal went to the floor. At the light I was able to go to the left but no brake. I was able to turn off the road and into a convenient store parking lot to stop. I had to get a tow truck to get my van and me home safe. It wasn't brake shoes! it looks like it was the power brake booster as in a recall #p14. My VIN is not in this recall but should be. Please extend the Town & Country in this or another recall. Several owners have this problem. Help us please? rita walsh.

4 Brakes Failed problem of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/16/2017

We have had to replace the parking brake assembly twice on this van. The first time was in December 16, 2016 which was replaced under warranty the second time was December 30,2017 but, was not covered under warranty. Our van only has 30,000 miles on it and this part should not fail as often as it has. We set the park brake in all of our cars when we park them. I've never had a car's park brake fail, yet it's happened to this car twice now, when it was two years old and again at three years and almost one year to the day when the replacement part was installed. When the assembly / cable broke it was sitting still in a parking lot.

5 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/18/2017

The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 25 mph, the steering and brakes failed. The vehicle restarted after one attempt. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (ken nelson located on 1100 n galena Ave, dixon, IL 61021), but the failure could not be duplicated. The dealer confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system, air bags). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.

6 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/14/2016

Bought 2011 town and country new in sept 2011. 3 months after purchase, car was shuddering badly when brakes were applied. Took it in, was told they could not duplicate, and would not repair. Tried a second time, same result. Took to a small repair shop who easily identified the problem, produced a quote for work and told me to take it back to the dealer so they would repair. Took it and dealer found that all four rotors were warped and needed replaced. Same problem 6 months after that, same repair. The next year saw the brakes fail after a loud sound from rear of car and the fluid dumping from the line. No visible object was hit. Same thing happened last week. Currently the van is in the shop for the 7th time in the last four years for brakes. Additionally, had to have the alternator replaced in the last 6 months. The amount of repairs required for a vehicle this new and expensive is insane. I have paid out of pocket for most of these issues and even had to pay for diagnositic fees were the problem could not be reproduced, only to require a repair shortly thereafter I also had to pay for. Asked dealer today for a full detailed log of all repairs done, could not produce a full repair report, only the last 4 years worth. With five years of ownership car has 60,000 miles. Will never ever buy again.

7 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/11/2016

We've had a sporadic, reoccurring problem where the engine shuts down while driving down the road. The van will lose acceleration, the power steering fails, (at least one time the power brakes failed as well) and the traction control light illuminates. As these happen, you realize that they were caused because the engine has just performed an uncommanded (by the driver) shutdown. Unfortunately, none of these symptoms are necessarily immediately obvious. For instance, when traveling straight (not using power steering), at low speeds (not accelerating), the first indication of failure is that the traction control light has illuminated. The far more concerning issue is when you realize that the engine (and systems) has failed while attempting to turn through an intersection. After the engine fails it will restart immediately. The issue is controlling the vehicle -after losing power steering, the ability to accelerate, traction control, and brakes - through the failure, in traffic, often on contaminated roads (rain, snow, or ice are common fall through early spring where we live) to be able to safely restart the engine. This problem began two years ago. It happened a few times in the winter over a couple week span and then went away. The next fall (8-9) months later it began doing it again. The occurrences this time were more frequent. We were told by the dealership that they were unable to duplicate our failures due to the intermittent nature of the problem. After a several weeks, the failures stopped. Now at the end of summer, it's been probably 9-10 months since the last occurrence, it has started again. Several occurrences in the last week. From what we can remember, the failures occur with the first several minutes of the trip (sometimes more than one within a few minutes) and usually at lower speeds. We can't remember an event above 40 mph.

8 Brakes Failed problem of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/07/2015

On August 7th, 2015 I was driving our 2014 Chrysler town and country on a highway in springfield, mo from texas, with my three children with me, going about 65 mph, when a car cut in front of me. When I pressed on the brakes, they went all the way to the floor. Pressing on the brakes did not slow the van down in any way. I couldn't swerve to the left being there was an 18 wheeler so I was forced over to the emergency lane & grass. Towed to a local dealer. We explained to dealer that Chrysler has been the only people to service our brakes, including brake fluid. My husband never opened the brake reservoir at anytime being we had always had it serviced at Chrysler. He did however change the engine oil one week prior to our out of state trip. During these few days we were going between the Chrysler customer care and the dealer. After we told the dealer of our self- oil change of only engine oil, suddenly about 3 hours later, the Chrysler customer service rep informed us that the dealer had told them, that somehow the brake oil became contaminated and it had to have happened in the last 7 days. Chrysler refused to cover costs under warranty, they found their way out of paying for their brake failure.

9 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/24/2014

I was traveling at 20 mph and turned right onto another street. In mid-turn, the engine cut off without warning and all power steering and power brakes failed. I nearly missed a car on the corner as the car turned. Because I was unable to break, I am not sure how the van stopped without any response from the brakes. Once I came to a stop, I put the car back into park and restarted the car. We bought this car new on 2/13/2013 and have not had this problem before. We do see reports of many Chrysler town and country vans and Dodge caravans reporting this problem going back to 1996, with some recalls along the way. It appears that this is an old issue that has not been properly addressed by Chrysler.

11 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/20/2013

The first incident occurred when the vehicle was in motion going about 40 miles an hour when the engine shut off with power steering and brake pressure loss. The abs and traction control light came on. The vehicle was able to be moved over to the side of the road without incident. Restarted the vehicle and it operated as normal. The second incident occurred while moving the vehicle around 5 miles an hour when the engine shut off again. Power steering and brakes failed to work. The third incident occurred traveling about 30 miles an hour with the same issues as above. The vehicle has been at the dealer twice with no solution at this time. There is a recall after the timeframe of this vehicle manufacture for the ignition module 11v139000. It would seem the recall needs to be extended as there are more issues related to the engine stopping for more than just the 2010 model.

12 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/16/2012

Van purchased brand new in February 2011. Have had brakes replaced once under Chrysler brake recall/repair program. Replaced initially at approx 16000 miles. Now brakes have failed again with improper stopping at 30 mph resulting in grinding, squeal, and excess vibration which scared me at time of stop.

13 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/08/2012

The contact owns a 2009 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the brakes failed, causing the contact to crash into a tree and the vehicle rolled over. The contact was injured and transported to the hospital by ambulance. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic advised that the vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in any recall. The vehicle was not repaired, the approximate failure and current failure mileage was 37,000.

14 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/22/2012

2nd set of brakes prematurely failing. First set of front and rear brakes failed at 21,811 miles and were covered under Chrysler recall in 2010. The brakes installed at that time have failed with 45,000 miles on the vehicle with 23,189 miles on the brakes. Independent repair shop told me that 1mil was left on the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced as well. The repair shop said they have never seen anything like it before with such low miles and brakes completely shredded!!! he said that I was very close to complete loss of brakes which could have resulted in an accident. Total cost of repairs are $379 not including tax. There are thousands of other town and country owners that are having the same problems - when are you going to do something about!!! these vans are dangerous. Chrysler already replaced the front brakes for this vehicle once before for premature failure - there is obviously a issue with this van. I have contacted Chrysler today 8/22/12 and they refuse to acknowledge the problem and will not offer any assistance. The customer service rep exact words were "we don't know anything about a problem with the brakes. ".

15 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 09/02/2011

This is being filed for someone else of norwalk, CT, who drives a van adapted for her to drive from the wheelchair. On September 2, 2011, she hit the back of a Honda civic on connecticut Ave in norwalk, CT when her servo gas/brake system failed. This system is equipped with a backup brake for this type of emergency but the backup brake was not working. She had no indication that the backup brake was not working before she started to drive. The manufacture of the electric servo gas/brake system is automotive innovations, 4 first street, p. O. Box 474, bridgewater, MA 02324-0474, tel: (508) 697 8324. Jim sanders, owner of automotive innovations, claims that it is a maintenance issue. I believe that the system should warn the user if the backup brake is not working before they start driving. I am the engineer who inspected the gas/brake system after the accident and it is my info below.

16 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/06/2010

We bought this van used in March 2010. It has been the worst vehicle we have ever purchased. Prior to this 2008 model, we had a 2005. We really liked it so we figured we'd upgrade so to speak. That was the most expensive mistake ever. Since then we have replaced the brakes and rotors twice and now it needs rear brake rotors. When I am braking at any speed the van shakes. The van feels completely unbalanced for some reason. We had an alignment done on it, new tires, a/c line broke, radio would stop working, and once while I was driving the van had this weird white smoke coming out of the vents. The steering is absolutely horrible and it either pulls to the left or right. When I brake, I have to push the brake all the way down before it finally starts to slow. I have 5 young children and I feel extremely unsafe in this van. Unfortunately not only are we wasting money on repairs, but we're wasting precious time in dealerships/mechanics that could be spent together as a family. I refuse to drive higher speeds in fear that the brakes will fail. In no way do I handle this vehicle in an aggressive manner. I follow all speed limits and do not ride the brakes. This is not I repeat not normal wear on tear for any kind of vehicle! the dealership has been no help to us. We have a bumper to bumper extended warranty and it's doing no good since it's not even covered. We will never ever purchase a Chrysler vehicle again and go out of our way to discourage others from buying them as well. I find it very disgusting that Chrysler is not doing anything to rectify this problem. I have very precious cargo as I'm sure many others do as well. How many people have to be injured or perish before they take action???? absolutely ridiculous!.

Failure Date: 01/21/2010

The brakes on my 2008 Chrysler town and country required replacement (brakes and rotors) with 22,000 miles on the vehicle. The brakes were checked in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, but were worn to the point they were unsafe three months later. This is a common problem with the 2008 Chryslers town and country's and should be fixed because there have been accidents caused by the brake failures and this is due to the poor quality and negligence of Chrysler.

28 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/13/2009

I read where an investigation has been started with the smoke and fire problem with three Jeep roof liners and checking the latest number of premature brake related failure on 09 Chrysler now numbers fourty. It seems there needs to be some sort of review of the inadequate braking system installed on these vehicles. I would hope that the review system considers brakes a somewhat important issue. I too have had these brake issues and filed complaints with this operation. I was never able to find my complaint in the list of complaints. Wondering how many other complaints never make it through the system. This brake failure is a serious problem.

34 Brakes Failed problem of the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/05/2001

First failure was on a road at 20 mph in a school zone on a rainy day. Applied pressure to the brakes and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor without the car stopping. Car advanced 3-5 feet before I realized my foot was on the brake pedal and they were not working. I applied pressure to the brakes again and the car came to a complete stop. Brakes appeared to work at the next couple of stops. Pulled into parking space and parked car. Brakes appeared to be working fine. Pulled out of parking space. Brakes appeared to be working while backing out. Proceeded to intersection at about 5 mph. Applied pressure to brakes and they did not work. My vehicle proceeded into intersection hitting a car. My airbags deployed. My foot was on the brake pedal the whole time. It happened all to fast for me to have realized that my vehicles brakes failed me again and to apply pressure to them again. My car was totaled. I do not know what happened to the other person's car. I called Chrysler and they retrieved the car in less than 24hrs. (they originally told me 2-3 weeks!) Chrysler inspected my car and sent me a generic form letter relieving them of responsibilty from this accident. The letter stated, "per inspection, the information at hand would not permit us to associate this accident with a manufacturing or assembly error. " they never mentioned what they checked or how they inspected the vehicle. No where in the letter was abs brakes mentioned.
