1 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2015 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 12/06/2018

Takata inflators. I was driving down us 41 at a speed of approximately 50 mph when my van suddenly revved very loudly and all systems seemed to begin shutting down. I removed my foot from the gas and it continued to climb in rpm's and would not accelerate. I was almost directly in front of a car repair shop so I basically coasted in there and was told I had to be towed to a transmission shop. I did and was told that the torque converter and transmission pump had likely failed and that the extent of the damage could not be determined until the transmission was opened up but that it would likely require a new transmission. I had a second opinion at a different shop and was told the same thing. The shop owner advised me of recall s44. Upon contacting the dealership they say my VIN does not appear however the issue is exactly what is happening with my vehicle. The vehicle is currently unable to be driven and I am seeking legal counsel.

2 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2003 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 06/10/2017

I had already sent info to dol (below) on 03 Caravan I from unlicensed dealer michael rankin. Please see complaint form inattachment -it's too long to add. They're in process of charging michael rankin on 12 counts for different vehicles sold, and asessing monetary fines. I have done transmission repairs to this postal fleet vehicle. According to experienced mechaniss at 32,300 miles the transmission had already been rebuilt -improperly. I'm complaining because I was stuck on fast moving arterial with leaking transmission (unsafe condition) because of improper repairs ,and could not move the vehicle in conjested traffic 1621-72nd st east, tacoma,wa 98404. Vehicle was stationary at that moment and at another different time when driving. This is the unsafe part. The mechanic charged me approximately $1500 and also told me it had transmission already rebuilt and (4) loose bolts on pump seal, also had a "pre owned" used? wrecking yard torque converter which was painted black indicating the rebuild ocurred. He also stated how the 2 front half shafts (axels) were worn out and I had to replace those, about $250. It has bad power steering pump-and groaning noises currently (unsafe condition) just like when I got it (32. 3k miles) vehicle has a bad air conditioner not unsafe. *I have jpeg photos and receips for parts, axels, transmission repair and fluid I had to buy to keep fluid in transmission. Please see attachment for complaint sent to washington dol , josh is the contact.

3 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 10/31/2009

For the last 4 years I've been taking my vehicle into the dealership with concern of transmission problems. My transmission slips in 2 and 3rd gear, I've been in reverse and my van has gone into drive, I've been in drive and my vans gone in reverse, my van hesitates, stalls and even dies. My transmissions feels as though it's dropped into "neutral" when it slips gear causing my van to immediately decelerate speed (sometimes die), freeway or city driving. I have taken my van in handfuls of time with this concern and everytime I was told my transmission is fine, 1 tech said he noticed a slight slip in gears. But there was nothing to worry about. I've been to 3 different Dodge dealerships and no one has noticed the transmission problem. I've taken it to aamco 1 time and they instantly found the problem, they just can't repair my transmission because I am still under dealer warranty. What aamco has found 2-3 gear slips bad, torque converter: noisy, bad, tcc/lockup: slips bad. Dodge will not honor aamco findings, which it to be expected but I have 3 children under the age of 9 and not one dealer wants to take it under warranty and fix the known problem.

4 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 03/25/2005

Since March while driving slowly about 20 mph, the vehicle made rumbling sounds like it was driving over rumbling strips on the highway. This problem is sporadic. No dash light illuminated indicating there was any type of problem. There is a technical service bulletin which references this problem. The consumer noticed that this seems to be a common problem with sprinters which later turns into a torque converter problem. It may also cause problems with the transmission. The vehicle has not been taken into to the dealer yet. The owner has not contacted daimler Chrysler. This problem has existed ever since the purchase of the vehicle. The owner would like to refer the investigator to sprintervan@yahoogroups. Com website for more information about the problem. Owner also would like to express frustration about the sprinter not being available as one of the choices in the complaint database.

6 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2000 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 08/07/2004

2000 Dodge Caravan with only 56,000 miles had to be towed because the transmission broke down and had to be replaced for a total of $$2250. 00. Then on 1/11/06 it happened again. We had to have a new torque converter plus all the other parts replaced again. We have maintained this vehicle according to the manual and it had to be fixed at the closest transmission repair shop. I have contacted Dodge about this, and they have denied any responsibility and refused to hear of this complaint. The mechanic rutland transmissions (281) 350-1365 told us that he sees many of these Dodge Caravans with the same problem. He told us that he sees many of these vans with similar transmissions needing replacements that go bad around the time that mine did. This is really a horrible problem that Dodge will no realize. What can be done with this kind of problem that seems to happen right after the van is paid for. We did not get the extended warranty thinking that nothing like this would ever happen. Can you help? I would appreciate this very much. I can fax the repair invoices if you need them. This is why people are going with japanese cars which prove that american isn't as dependable.

7 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2003 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 07/15/2003

The first problem happened on 4/24/03 transmission stuck in second gear would not shift. Dealership removed and disassembled transmission. Found a lot of metal filings and found torque converter failure. They replaced clutches and converter, reassembled. The second time the transmission blew. The dealership inspected transmission and there was a hole in the case, differential failure. They replaced the transmission. The brand new from the factory transmission is doing the same as when we first bought it. I believe it is a lemon.

10 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 1999 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 05/31/2001

The transmission has gone out on my 1999 Dodge Caravan twice. The first time was at 35908 miles and only 17 months old. It was the speed sensor. The second time was at 40,100 miles and less than 20 months old. I was told the torque converter came aprart!! this transmission had to be replaced and was not covered by Dodge because it was outside of the 36,000 manufacturers warranty. I have had numerous problems with this less than 2 year old car, but the most worrisome has been the transmission failures because they have occured while my wife was driving alone and in heavy traffic, leaving her stranded.
