On Aug. 19 my husband heard a very faint "ping" about a 2 miles from home. Nothing seemed to be wrong and he felt it must have been something moving around in the car. On Aug. 20, after driving several miles, I heard what sounded like something under the hood self-destructing, the odometer and rpm gauge went wacky, and I had no power. I was fortunate to be perhaps 50 yards from an auto service center and coasted into the driveway leaking fluid and flinging parts. The transmission had blown apart. Had I been on a freeway I would likely have been killed or killed someone else. From talking to mechanics it seems that this is a well known defect and Dodge manufactured transmissions were not modified, but there has been no recall. We were told that after market parts from another company had the problem addressed. (what recourse do we have. Can we ever expect Dodge to pay for a remanufactured transmission?) note: the mileage and speed are approximate.

My 2006 Dodge Caravan was making a noise when turning so when I got home checked power steering fluid and it was low. When checked the next day it was low again. So had it checked out at a gararge and it was leaking from the rack and pinion. So it now needs replaced. Only hve 61000 miles on the car and have noticed it seems to be a constantant problem on theses cars. Called a dealership about a recall and was told there is none and there never will be one. Cant aford to replace parts just yet so ijust keep adding flud till I can get work done. But am very dissapointed with Dodge knowing there is a problem with this and not seeming to care about it at all.

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Caravan. While driving and turning the steering wheel it seemed as if the power steering malfunctioned. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop. The mechanic advised her that the tension and idle pulley failed and needed to be replaced. Furthermore, she noticed a squeaking noise which she presumed was in the brake area when the brakes were engaged and occasionally failed to stop the vehicle. She spoke with a representative where she purchased the vehicle; however, he test drove the vehicle and advised her that there were no problems with the brakes. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer or an authorized dealer have not been notified. The current and failure mileages were approximately 138,830. Updated 4/30/10 transmission fluid was leaking. Updated 06/28/jb.
The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Caravan. While driving approximately 2 mph the contact suddenly noticed a loud noise coming from under the vehicle. Upon examining the vehicle the contact noticed that the transmission fluid was heavily leaking onto the ground underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the failure was due to the transmission pin. The vehicle had not repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 92000.
I was driving down a major road (m-59) and my minivan made a popping noise (my initial reaction was my tire blown) and came to an abrupt stop and engine cut off. I was able to restart and pull into a parking lot near by. I noticed transmission fluid leaking(which left a trail and a decent puddle when stopped). After speaking to 6 different transmission repair shops they all stated that there is a pin that is know to slip and shoot out causing the gears to slip out that has been know with the 99 Dodge Caravan . Two mechanics believed there had been a silent recall because it is the most common problem with the transmission and Dodge was aware of this problem. After reviewing online it seems that this is the biggest complaint. There is a bracket that now fixes this problem. I am grateful what happened didn't cause my 6 yr old daughter and I to get into a collision. I talked to my local dealership and the lady, samantha, I talked to was aware that this issue does exist. I don't understand why the consumer has to experience this expensive, dangerous event and be left to bear the cost to fix this. All of the repair shops state there are brackets that are designed to prevent this from occurring again, but it's something that shouldn't occur in the first place! there was no warning that my transmission was about to falter. The consumer shouldn't have to bear the financial consequence of a faulty design. If there is solution then Dodge should have/or be fixing this not the consumer!.

: the contact stated while driving 40mph, the transmission began leaking fluid. The dealer determined the transmission failed due to a pin lost inside the transmission. The dealer recommended replacing the transmission.

Transmission failed, vermont, 2003. Replaced the transmission @ 114,152 miles - wilson Dodge, vt - at 134,826 miles, transmission fluid leaking - had noticed clunking occasionally in reverse. Complained to the dealer -ira Dodge, medford MA clunking: was informed that the leaking or tear down for clunking not covered under warranty - to be my expense - sound not easily repeatable - dealer stated $150 diagnostic charge. Argued with the service manager saying that the transmission was under warranty - he was not sympathetic. Convinced him to have his mechanic test drive the van after fixing the leak (which he indeed did - mileage out was 134828)
August 2005 - mileage 148781 - loud bang while backing up in the hotel parking garage. Called mopar customer service at 800-992-1997 - date 8/20/05 - told that warranty was good in canada by rep; given the name of the montreal dealership - drove to dealership 8/21/05 (without incident); informed warranty not good in canada. Service manager drove the car. Unable to replicate problem. Drove home (worcester, MA. ) no problems. Drove to the Dodge dealer in worcester 8/23/05; transmission person was on vacation. Told that a diag would be $150, teardown my expense. Problem did not occur again. 10/27 - entire transmission locked - middle of busy prospect street in cambridge. Van would not move. Taken to the Dodge dealership, 900 miles out of warranty. Ira Dodge said could do nothing about discounting the labor. They asked me to contact mopar warranty. Called mopar service 11/2/05, told my story, no record of my call on 8/20/05. Transferred to a "senior staff agent" (eddie - employee #9ew) in the business office - he called the dealer while I was on hold. When he came back to the line he was no longer friendly, saying I was beyond my warranty and that Dodge would not cover anything. Argued with "eddie", asked for supervisor. Eddie declined.

When attempt was made to proceed forward from stopped position, the van failed to move. After several attempts the van was taken home. Upon inspecting, transmission oil had leaked out. Transmission fluid was put back in to drive the van to a mechanic. The technician informed the owner that a pin inside the casing slips out during a percentage of miles. Once this happens, the pinion teeth grinds. The van had a "banner kit" installed but the problem has recurred. The consumer has attached copies of invoice.
Vehicle leaked transmission fluid. The vehicle was taken to a service station where it was determined that the transmission case was breached by a drive pin which was coming loose from the assembly. The consumer contacted the manufacturer but since the vehicle was no longer under warranty they refused any assistance.

Consumer stated while driving and without warning the rear transmission seal cracked causing fluid to leak.
The transmission slips and goes into neutral while driving. This has now happend on four different occasions. At first I thought I just had not engaged drive all the way, but this last time I actually checked and the gear stick was fully engaged in drive - I. E it did not wiggle around. Then as I was rounding the corner at a light it all of a sudden started to rev and I realized it was in neutral. I slipped it back into gear and promptly called the dealer for an appointment. When I was called to tell me my car was done, they said that this happens when the transmission fluid is low, and that my fluid was low due a faulty hose causing a leak. However earlier this year when my fluid level was low the check engine light came on and they added fluid then. This time the check engine light did not come on to indiacate that transmission fluids were low. So I am alittle concern about the problem. However since taking it to the dealer, I have not had any problems with it sliping, yet.
Consumer states that transmission fluid is leaking into the brake line causing brakes to fail. Nlm.
Winding noise when accelerating. Took vehicle to dealer, and they said it was transmission. Consumer had to put new paper under car at night for transmission fluid leaking. Took back to dealer and, and dealer indicated that consumer needed a new transmission.
While driving, transmission failed. Repair shop found the transmission case had cracked with no appearant reason, causing all fluid to leak out of transmission. Dodge dealer claims this a known problem, but no help from Dodge because warranty has expired. I can't understand how a cast case can just crack if it is not a manufacturing defect.
While backing out of driveway, van was very sluggish. When transmission was put into drive and gas pushed, engined just revved and would not go. Then noticed fluid leaking and had it towed to local dealer.
Transmission leaking fluid, starting to go.
I have reviewed alot of websites and it seems there have been alot of transmission problems reported on this model of car. Some could have led to accidents, while our car so far involves only transmission fluid leakeage and occasional noise. But, I am afraid this may be prelude to a full failure. It seems prudent to consider a general recall on the transmission since there seem to have been so many complaints posted on the internet. Even our auto mechanic was well aware of the problem and suggested that we complain to the dealer and see if they would be nice enough to honor some type of compensation!.
While driving the transmission fluid hose became detached from transmission, causing the fluid to leak and the vehicle to lose power.
1999 grand Caravan purchased new , transmission failed with approx 10000 miles repaired, still not right dealer unable to duplicate problem. Car can lunged forward with very slight pressure on gas pedal taken for routine oil change by independent station, found transmission fluid leaking said poss seal worn at 17000 miles. Car has very unusual acceleration patterns I am the full time driver of this vehicle and after two years I still am unsure on how to handle it when accelerating to highway speeds it is very unpredictable. Another problem we have seen with it is the brakes. We had it back to dealer at 10k miles for noise from back wheels, they told us it was a loose car seat , what do they think we are stupid. The whistling has been constant , even after telling them to look into it this time they said the hubcaps were bent and the noise was coming from that, they never checked the brakes ,low and behold, we now need a $400 plus full brake job. I am so fed up with this disaster of a car. Any info on bulletins in.
