Fuel leak in engine compartment from degrading o-rings on fuel injection rail. Fuel dripping onto engine from fuel rail clamp o-rings replaced previously on NHTSA recall campaign id number 00v268000 in 2002. Contacted daimler Chrysler at 800-853-1403 requesting dangerous repeat problem with fuel o-rings be repaired by dealer at no-charge. Manufacturer declined free repair request stating my 1997 vehicle has too many miles.

The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated that the fuel rail previously leaked on the vehicle. On December 26, 2002, the fuel rail was replaced according to NHTSA campaign id number 00v268000 (fuel system, gasoline:fuel injection system). Also, while driving various speeds, the contact would constantly smell gasoline fumes inside the passenger compartment. He looked under the hood and noticed gasoline leaking onto the engine. Chrysler initially stated that there was a lifetime warranty and they would cover the repair costs. They later stated that the contact would be responsible for the repairs. The failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 119,000.

The contact complained that the fuel injection fuel rail was leaking. He smelled a gas odor coming from the van and had it inspected by a mechanic. The smell was coming from the leak. It has been leaking for the past four weeks. The contact took the van to a mechanic for service and repairs. After contacting the dealer and manufacturer he discovered that this vehicle was not covered under a recall at this time. Updated 1/4/2006 - the vehicle leaked fuel each time the ignition was turned.

While driving at 55 mph driver noticed a fuel smell coming from inside of the vents. Driver was able to pull over to the shoulder, he lifted up hood and noticed that a fuel leakage was present. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for analysis,where the mechanic replaced the fuel rail.

Consumer stated that twice while driving the vehicle's cabin filled w/gas fumes resulting in occupants becoming ill. Occurred on 11/24/02 and 11/26/02. Related recall 00v268000, consumer's v. I. N. Is not included. Ts.
Smell strong ordor of gas, opened hood, found gas dripping in and filling lip of valve cover and over flowing on to the hot manifold, recall refuse to fix, all due to a o ring failure in fuel rail.

We also have ghost windshield wipers, have had the van recalled because of the fuel rail now we have to worry that the airbag will deploy. These cars suck and should be taken off the road. Dt.
The consumer received recall notice# 00v268000 subject: fuel leakage about a month ago. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who kept the vehicle over night. Consumer called to find out when the vehicle would be ready. Dealer stated the parts were on order. Consumer picked the vehicle up, and the dealer stated they would notify by mail when the part were available. The vehicle hasn't been called into the shop.
Consumer took vehicle to have required 00v268000 recall repairs done on seals on the fuel rails and dealer refused to perform repairs.
Consumer received recal 00v268000 regarding fuel leakage. Dealer was contacted in June ,and the parts were not available. The dealer was recently contacted, and the parts were still not available. The smell of gasoline entered the passenger cabin which the consumer said was related to this recall.
