This complaint is about another 2004 Dodge Caravan that stalls after filling up the tank. The problem is that the stalling occurs without warning-I. E. In the middle of crossing an intersection or,say, pulling out of the gas station into traffic! spoke with chysler this morning about it and they seem oblivious to the problem. Kind of hard to believe since all you have to do is google "caravan stalls after filling up" and there are thousands of complaints online. Mechanics are aware of the problem but the general public only seems to be aware after the occurrence! please take some time to check into this before some little kid gets hurt.

We own 2 Dodge Caravan's a 2001 grand that we had a problem with for 6 months. We kept getting a evap leak warning light. Finally they did a smoke test and the whole top of the gas tank had to be replaced. We just got that fixed and my husbands 2003 Caravan now has the same warning light. I do not believe this is a coincidence. Dodge is no help . First time I called they said we will help you. Now they say its not our problem. Come on 2 vans in the same house with the same problem.

The van started acting like is not getrting gas on March 11. It stalled and wouldn't start again so I had it towed to the garage by my house. They could't find the promblem. So I took it home after a week. It diid it again so I had it towed back to the garage and they still couldn't find it. So I drove it to a dealer and they had it for a week. They found no reason for it to stall or act like it had no gas. So I took it home and it did it again so I took it to another dealer and they stated I needed a new battery and fuel thottle and a feul purge and new fuel filter so I paid 438. 00 for the work to be done and took it home after a week. Then I had it for 2 days and it acted like it didn't get gas and stalled again. So I had it towed back to the dealer and they kept it for 2 weeks and they still have no idea what the promblem is. I am not taking it to the dealer I bought it from but one Chrysler said was a five star and in my city. Everyone is been real nice but they promblem is still there. It is unsafe to drive a vehicle that may die while driving . I have had it towed 5 times since 3/11. I may have gotten one week worth of driving out of it for this month and a half. It still has the promblem.

What happen is that I had fuel up at a service station back on January 24,2001 and notice gas coming out of my car and I called my mechanic that evening and he told me (mechanic) to bring the car down the next day. I went to the shop and they discovered that it need a gas tank sending unit assy. Unit and it was replaced that day. I received a recall from daimler Chrysler for the reason of ring around the gas tank. I wrote them a letter because of the nature of the matter and they response to me that it was not what the recall was for. I then wrote them a letter and the response that the facts presented in my letter to them that I had not met the required conditions of the recall. So, daimler/Chrysler decline my request. Consumer was at the gasoline station when he filled up gasoline tank. Gasoline was leaking from bottom of tank. This has happened more than one occasion. Also, there has been gasoline smells coming inside of vehicle. Dealership is aware of problem.
This was a fuel leak on the top of fuel tank at one of the openings for the three items that connect to the tank. This was diagnosed in March, 1999. However, we had noticed a gas smell prior to this (1998-1999 most likely) and reported it, but nothing was found. We live on a steep hill and from Aug, 1997-Dec, 2000, we primarily parked the van in the garage where it was level. In Dec, 2000, we started parking it on the hill and started noticing a gas smell and a gas drip from the tank when the car was parked up hill. Most likely the leak has been from day one and when we had a full tank and drove up the hill, some of it would leak out. The servicing dealer (hayes Chrysler, lawrenceville, GA) identified the problem in March, 2001 and estimated a ~$700 repair to replace the tank, as the gaskets were most likely the problem, but it was more reliable to replace the whole tank. I believe, this was an improper and high quote and stated such and then I requested a repair under safety considerations and asked them to contact the manufacturer's rep. They did and Chrysler provided the tank and I paid the labor ($198) -- I probably should not have paid the labor. I know they have had some recalls related to simlar issues and rollovers. I do not understand the signature requirement -- I assume you relay the vehicle information, but not my personal information, correct?.

After filling the gas tank I parked the said vehicle on an incline with the front of the vehicle facing downhill. As I exited the vehicle, I could smell gas. I looked under the vehicle and saw gas leaking from somewhere on top of the gas tank. I moved the vehicle to level ground and the gas stopped leaking. On 06/05/2000 I took the vehicle to elmhurst Dodge at which time they said the gas tank had a crack in it and would have to be replaced. The dealer also commented that they had made the same repair to three other vehicles the previous month and that the tanks were made out of plastic. The gas tank was replace under invoice #220957. Dealer also replaced the fuel tank locking ring (recall 845) under invoice #221121. Prior to 06/04/2000 I had smelled gas in my garage for over a year, not knowing it was coming from the vehicle.
