I was traveling on the freeway at speed or slightly above when my gas light went on and the van started to sputter. Then the engine light went on and my speed decreased to appx 40 mph. I immediately got to the side of the road during rush hour and cars speeding by me. It was extremely dangerous and scary. A police officer stopped to assist me and try to get me towed. I made it to the next gas station. I added gas and oil. However, due to the fact that it was shaking and not able to make it above 40 mph, I decided to have it towed home until a decision could be made about what to do. The next morning we towed to our mechanic and it was discovered that the engine dropped. The bolts that held it in failed. I am lucky. Now we have the engine back up in place and are determining what else is broken due to this failure.

Please be advised that we have had a peculiar & occasional acceleration problem with our 2005 Dodge Caravan with 63,000 miles, we were unable to accelerate on several occasions such as trying to pass in traffic, and/or trying to start up from a stop at a traffic light. The throttle felt blocked and the foot pedal would not move until stomped on several times. This failure to accelerate could cause a head on collision when trying to pass another vehicle, or a rear end collision when trying to start moving from a stop. The servicing dealer, lithia Dodge & Chrysler in santa rosa, CA reported that they found heavy combustion deposits on the inside of the throttle body they believed could block the throttle plate from moving properly. They cleaned the throttle body and we have operated without a problem for about 2 months. This problem was reported to Chrysler service and they suggested we also report the problem to NHTSA. Vehicle was sluggish on take off quite often. . Could smell fuel odor in and around vehicle . After cranking vehicle ,,the vehicle caught on fire. Burning itself and during ,there were several explosions that came from the vehicle. . Both from the engine compartment and in passenger area. All within approximately 45 minutes . My husband was burned on his lower leg attempting to put out flames. Our house was damaged from the flames along with other property. . We see this vehicle as being a potential death trap. . Especially possible in a car accident where some one could be seriously injured, and waiting for help. This van is made for familys with kids. As we have 3 kids and a toddler. . It was designed as a 7 passenger vehicle. . As we were told by the dealers at Dodge that this was an exceptionally safe vehicle and perfect for a family with 2 to 4 kids. . . We find now ,that we were lied to. And was never told of any recall on this vehicle. . Or any dangers of this vehicle being suseptable to being a fire hazard. We were never told that these vans had ever had any type of problem. . And did not suspect . Our children were in constant danger even being near this van,. For we found it would catch on fire in an instant. . Without warning. . . Nothing was ever done to this vehicle to correct the problem. . And we were never warned in any way or form that these Dodge Caravans had a history of fuel leaks or were fire hazards waiting to happen. . .

I bought the car new in November of 2002. I have been complaining of fuel economy since the car was new. I am not getting close to what is listed at 19-25 mpg. Dealer has been told of this several times. They are unable to find a problem.
2003 Dodge Caravan is a piece of garbage! my new Caravan had a recall for a part in the transmission. It is noisy, ruff running, and it does not get 21-27 miles per gallon as advertised!! 12 miles per gallon is more realistic. Be warned! this van is terrible. Look at other vans do not buy or lease this vehicle. This has been brought to the attention of Chrysler and maroone Dodge and they will do nothing about it. Go elsewhere! they are not 5 star they suck!.
