I took my truck to eastgate Chrysler at 500 north shadeland Ave. 46219 ph. # 317-352-7192 to have my airbag recall repaired and a wheel alignment, there wasn't anything wrong with my truck when I took it into them, on my way home I notice that the airbag light was flickering when I turned corner sometimes and 2 days later it stayed on and the cruise control quite working and the horn wouldn't blow and and that area where you blow the horn was very hard, I made and appointment to take it in to see what the problem was and they told me I must have done something to damage it because it was fine when I left and the clock-spring was bad and the repair would cost $480,I told them,I'm not paying for there mistake, service manger refused to fix it so I called Dodge customer service about 5-time and they couldn't get them to fixit either.

The airbag indicator light on the dash remains on after startup. I have had this checked out 3 times by different mechanics all have said its a sensor. I have had the sensor changed which has fixed the problem for a short while, when I say a short while I mean for at least 2 miles of driving after fixing. It then comes on and remains on.
1. Drivers airbag light comes on when driver. 2. When making a u-turn I hear a loud clunking noise around the tire area. 3. The emergency release brake cable snapped off the release handle. 4. Nhtsa just sent me an email regarding a recall on my 2006 Dodge Dakota quad "left tire rod assembly". ( this could be the cause of my #2. Loud clunking noise making a u-turn).
Air bag light came on and stayed on. I was not moving, just started vehicle. Light has remained on for 5 days with my normal driving. Horn and cruise control work.

While driving I turned the steering wheel my airbag light came on and now it comes on every time I turn the wheel, it doesn't matter what direction. There seems to be a recall for the 2000 model year, but not my year.
Dash board airbag light came on when I repostioned front passanger seat. . I came home and checked Dodge forum to see what and where the problem may be. . . . While reading several posts about checking for a loose connector I decided to go to the truck and removed the bolts holding the seat to the floor I layed the seat on its back, released the red retaining clip and depressed it. . . Whiling holding down the release I pulled on the plug and to my surprise the control unit came apart in my hands. . . .
Air bags failed to deplly in a 40 mph crash in my 2005 Dodge Dakota pu. Crash involved the front right corner of the vehicle into concret barrier on interstate. In the past, I have reported an issue with the "check air bag light" coming on and staying on for extended periods of time from the day the vehicle was new and under warranty and they investigated without finding any issues. Todays incident causes me great concern of potential failures in other frontal crashes with more serious injuries.
I bought my 2001 Dodge Dakota quad cab brand new and until this date, I have only had one issue. The power window motor quit and was replaced in 2008. On October 1st, 2010, my cruise control went out. Thinking it was wear and tear, I was not in a rush to fix it. Then the horn quit working. When the air bag light started flashing when I turned the steering wheel, I took it in to be serviced. My concern is that I have the same issues as a previous recall, but my VIN # is not included in that period. My mechanic says it is the clockspring assembly that needs to be replaced and the part is expensive. Looking online, it appears Dodge is not making good. My VIN # matches the other complaints. After contacting Dodge (11/10/10), I was offered a 50% refund on repair work. This says to me that they acknowledge there is something wrong with other models/year. This is unacceptable no matter how old the vehicle is. It is a safety issue with Dodge.
The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Dakota with 160000 miles. The failure started when the contact lost control by engaging the radio button and the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel. The air bag light also came on. The vehicle was self diagnosed and the failure was due to the clock spring. The contact stated that recall 01v153000 air bags was related to the failure. A new clock spring was put into the vehicle. The part number to the new clock spring was 56045456ag. The part number for the defective part was 56045456ad. The contact had a previous crash where the original clock spring was replaced with the defective one. The manufacturer was called about the failure but they could not tell the contact the part number of the original clock spring. The contact feels that they put the defective part in his vehicle after the vehicle was repaired.

Clockspring in steering column. The air bag light stayed on, the cruise control, horn and radio stopped working. A new clockspring was installed and now everything works fine.
The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Dakota. While driving approximately 50-55 mph, the contact stated that the air bag light illuminated and stayed on. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the contact was informed about recall 01v153000 (air bags). Both the dealer and manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included. The failure began August 2009 and had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 220,000 and the current mileage was approximately 225,000.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Dakota. While driving approximately 45 mph on normal road conditions, the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel without warning. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the clock spring assembly failed. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 63,000. Updated 6/18/09 updated 06/22/09.
The airbag light came on, I took it to the dealership to have it checked out. They told me that this was not the first time that they had a truck like mine come in for the same reason, they said that it was the seat airbag sensor. They said that the sensor keeps the bags from deploying when in a wreck.
My husband was driving his 2001 Dodge Dakota home at night, on a country road, around August 5, 2008 and the headlights flickered on and off. When he got home, the windshield wipers went haywire, the horn continued to honk, the door locks began locking and unlocking, and the air bag light came on. We found out the central timer module (cmt) and clock spring had failed and was told the truck was unsafe to drive. We had both repaired for $530. I was told that recalls existed on several Dodge vehicles but not one of them specified our truck. I contacted Dodge and they just said it was not my truck so I was out of luck. I then did some research on this on-line and found several forums with this same problem on this year of truck, plus several others, and they could not find any help from Dodge either. This is a really serious malfunction and could of cause a very bad accident. I just need Dodge to own up to the problem and reimburse us for the repairs we had. Also admit there is a problem on all Dodge vehicles, before someone get seriously injured or killed.
The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Dakota. The front passenger side air bag sensor has been recalibrated one time. When a passenger or object is seated in the seat, the air bag light dims. The dealer stated that the sensor needed to be recalibrated each time the failure occurred, according to a federal law. The dealer charged $100 for each recalibration. The powertrain and failure mileage were unknown. The current mileage was 27,129. Updated 06/09/2008.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Dakota. While driving 15 mph, the horn and cruise control failed. The contact stated that the air bag light and o/d light remained illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer stated that the cause of failure was the steering column and suggested that a Dodge dealer make the repair. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current mileage was 176,225 and failure mileage was 175,725.
The horn quit the cruise controls quit working. The air bag light are on air bags are dead the clock spring is bad in all the 2000 2001 Dodge Dakota 's all have the same problem. Dealer said sounds like you got a problem. This is a safety problem.
Air bag light continually goes on and off. After extensive researching online, it looks like the clockspring is defective. Apparently the air bag won't deploy in an accident, but Dodge refuses to issue a recall. However, there are recalls on other year Dodge trucks - but not the 2001 Dakota, even though they were built at the same factories in the same year as the other models that did get issued a recall.
Since purchasing my 2005 Dodge Dakota quad cab in Feb. Of '05, I have noticed several times that the air bag light in the instrument cluster lights up indicating a problem with the system. I have taken the vehicle in to the dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer checked the "codes" and found nothing that indicated a circuit problem, so they done nothing to repair the vehicle. Two days after the service, the air bag light again came on. The dealer even said that the air bag system would not operate whenever the light is on. When the light comes on, it sometimes stays on 15 minutes, and typically anywhere from 2 to 15 minutes. I am very concerned that the system would fail in the event of a crash, endangering myself and my family. This is the primary family vehicle.
The horn and the cruise control were the first items to quit working and then the air bag light came on. I did some research and found that a recall for the very same problems were issued for 2000 Dodge Dakotas and 2001 Dodge rams. I purchased my vehicle in December of 2000 so my vehicle was manufactured in 2000 even though it is a 2001 model. I do not believe that Dodge corrected the problem that existed that caused safety recall #982 to be issued. Due to this failure, my truck now has safety issues with the air bag and the horn not functioning. The cruise control is more of an inconvenience issue than safety. My truck failed inspection because the horn will not blow. I have scheduled to have it repaired on 1/13/06, but I feel that Dodge should be responsible for at least part of the repair since they have a history of clockspring failure in this vehicle.
Failure of clockspring on 2001 Dodge Dakota. Horn and cruise control would not work and airbag light was on. There is a safety recall on this part - recall number 982. Part was replaced at owner's expense. Pictures of replaced part indicate defect in part but Dodge will not pay for replacement of part.
