1 Front Air Bag problem of the 2001 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 02/04/2011

2001 Dodge Dakota: clockspring failure leading to non functioning horn and air bags: history: normal use, very low mileage (27000) symptoms: on-steering-wheel horn and speed controls fail, then airbag system cause: failure in clockspring. Previous recalls for dogeram, Dakota and durango cover this in other models, but not mine although my Dakota was built in one of the recall-effected plants during the mdh time range: see recall #982 repair: requires replacing clock spring $180 "street price" for part plus labor. Comment: internet searches suggest this is a common problem with Dakota trucks outside the aforementioned recall. It may be appropriate to increase the range of coverage of models, VIN's and and mdh's subject to recall.

2 Front Air Bag problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/10/2008

I had noticed a crack in my dash one day after work and now there are several. The one that concerns me most, is the one on the passenger side over the air bag compartment. I keep my vehicle in very good shape so this problem is not due to neglect. The material used just seems to be very brittle and I am afraid if anything was to happen causing the passenger air bag to deploy, what is the brittle dash pieces are going to due to my passenger. I do believe this could lead to a serious injury to someone's face or eyes. As of now Chrysler seems to be saying that this is not a manufactures problem, I disagree, I also own a 97' Dodge ram truck that does not have this problem. Current vehicle is a 02' ram 1500.

12 Front Air Bag problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 10/16/2003

I was driving under 30 miles an hour in my 2002 Dodge ram quad truck when something snapped under the front of the truck causing me to lose control of my vehicle resulting into crashing into a truck waiting to pull out into the street. The truck only had 17,000 miles and we only have had it 22 months, bought new. The steering arm was off at both ends, the wheel came off and all damage was on the inside of the wheel, the other wheel was turned straight. When accident happened the truck veered to the left out of control. The airbag never came out. Are there any reports of 2002 Dodge trucks having steering problems? Chrysler finally sent a person to look at the truck. Our insurance company is wanting to put after market parts on our new truck, which will limit our warranty with Chrysler since they're not Dodge parts. The point if we were on interstate or any road going faster someone would have gotten hurt much worse or killed, since the airbag didn't work either. Cast aluminum is what the parts that came apart were made of. With the damage that occurred to the wheel and both ends of the steering arm was off after the wreck, it is hard to tell how it happened. We have not gotten the official word from Chrysler yet. Caution owners of 2002 Dodge trucks of the potential dangers, please.
