Dodge Dakota owners have reported 135 problems related to air bag not deploy (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle: 2005 Dodge Dakota with 24,000 miles on the odometer. The airbag warning lights for both the passenger and drivers side airbags continually go on and off presumably indicating that the airbags will not deploy in an accident. This started about 3 - 5 weeks ago. The dealerships service advisor said to make sure there was nothing under the seats (there isn't) and other than that, since the vehicle is out of warranty, be prepared to spend a lot of money hunting for the cause of an intermittent sensor failure.

Was involved in a car accident on 4/22/06. I was driving 55 mph and a delivery truck pulled out in front of me. I hit the truck on his driver side and smashed my hole front end in. Truck was almost totaled. My air bags never deployed. If it wasn't for the seat belt my injuries could have been worse then whip lash. My truck is in the process now of being fixed. No one is giving me answers to why the bags didn't deploy. I called the Dodge manufacturer and filed a complaint. Never heard a thing. This is very dangerous not to have the air bags deploy. My main worry is that when my truck is fixed and if I ever have another accident will the air bags work? please help!.

My husband and I were in a wreck 01/02/06 with his 97 Dodge Dakota slt club cab, we hit 2 deer at 50-55 mph head on. Our airbags did not deploy. We notified Chrysler about this matter. They sent out a special investigator to go over the truck to see why they did not deploy, we were advised by my husbands insurance company to be present at the time of inspection, we told this to chryslers special investigator. My husband went to the dealership the truck was to be taken to the si didn't show up my husband came home, I called the body shop that had the truck and they informed me that the si had come and looked at the truck there and then was wanting it taken to a local dealership. I told the body shop not to allow the truck to be moved without us present, they went ahead and did it anyway. Along with contact over the airbags with Chrysler I was made aware of 1 recall, that we had not been notified of. Now in my research I have found 5 recalls that we were not notified of. I was injured in the accident because of the airbags not deploying, I am still having problems. We have no vehicle at all, Chrysler is dragging their feet about doing anything as far as telling us any details of the investigation. We are thinking about possibly repairing the truck, this will take money that we do not have to fix, the truck had liability only insurance. We live on a fixed income, my husband is disabled, I am currently not working and if I were I would have been fired for not being able to get to work. Due to all the recalls on this truck that we have just found out about and the airbags not deploying and this being our only transportation, we would just like to see the vehicle replaced, but not with Chrysler with a competitor, we are not asking for a brand new vehicle and also to have my medical bills paid.

The contact's vehicle was involved in a single car accident while driving 35-40 mph. It struck a tree. Upon impact, the airbags did not deploy. The passenger was wearing a seat belt. However, he sustained facial injuries. A police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was towed from the scene. A manufacturer's representative inspected the vehicle, who determined that the airbag sensor functioned at the time of the accident by the computer codes. He stated the airbags did not deploy because of the location of the impact. This determination was made based on the data collected by the representative. There was extensive damage to the front of the vehicle. No repairs have been made.
Air bag light on dashboard started blinking on and off, brought vehicle to Dodge dealer to diagnose problem. I was informed that the airbag lock spring was defective and needed replacement. This item is not covered by any type of warranty or extended warranty from Dodge. There are many complaints about airbag failing to deploy in accidents and injuries involved with it. The airbag is a safety feature in the vehicle and the dealer or the manufacturing company should be responsible for repairs and any damages caused by faulty equipment. I contacted the local dealer and Dodge corp. They said that there is nothing they can do. I do not believe that, im a very unsatisfied customer.

I contacted daimler-Chrysler who told me the airbags were not made to deploy in a rear end collission. Only if the vehicle is moving forward with accelleration and suddenly hit in the front.
