36 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 08/02/2017

Takata recall: there has been multiple issues with this car including loss of power, rapid shifting, transmission failure, stalling, and overheating. The check engine light and transmission light have come on multiple times, the tcs and passenger airbag lights have come on and off at the same time. This car has had 2 pcm's replaced, 4 tcm's replaced, 2 transmissions (the last one replaced less than one week ago), 2 sets of spark plugs and coils replaced, timing belt, serpentine, and water pump replaced. The transmission, serpentine, timing belt, and water pump were all replaced on 7/21/17 and now the car is presenting with the same issues. These problems started with the first owner (and were not reported to me) on 8/6/13 and started with me on 4/16/15. As of 8/2/17 I have the same whining noise in the car (which has been diagnosed as the transmission multiple times now), the transmission is unable to shift or lags or shifts too quickly, I can floor the gas peddle and the car will not accelerate, when I let off the brake the car surges forward, the check engine light is back on, and the cruise control is not functional. This car has been in the shop more than I have driven it and Dodge keeps repairing it and those repairs last less that one month and the same problem happens again and again. This car is unsafe to drive and Dodge has yet to remedy the situation. The car is set to be back in the shop this week and it is currently not drivable and a hazard to myself and others on the road. I would not be able to accelerate to move out of the way of anyone or anything due to the transmission and issues with this vehicle.

38 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 12/26/2016

When parked on an incline, the car experiences failure in shifting from park to other gears. The gear lever will physically move to other gear positions, however the car will not switch from park to other gears. We have had to manually push the car forward to get it to switch out of park. It seems to be some kind of failure between the sensors sending information to the transmission control module which is not allowing the vehicle to calculate gear shifting correctly. This has happened on 3 separate occasions.

41 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

I purchased my Dodge Dart at 21,000 miles. 30,000 miles car shuts off on highway. Total power loss. Dodge was able to limit the problem however ran rough and at about 45000 miles car shifted hard now at 70000 Dodge tells me it's the transmission valve body. 3,000 dollar repair. At this point car is not worth 3000. Still shuts off completely while driving. Transmission control module is recalled for the 2013 Dart however not my VIN# ????? I see tons of people with the same issues even cases against Dodge for this model. However they are unwilling to help me out with any issues I bring to their attention. Unfortunate. For me.

43 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

I started having issues with my Dart 2 years after I bought it, tcm lost communication while traveling 70+ mph down highway had to tow car. Had tcm flashed(repair 1), drove 2-3k mile more, happened again, brought it to a different dealership said they replaced tcm (repair 2, before tcm recall was issued. ) about 10k miles later had to bring it back, had tcm flashed again (repair 3), about 10k miles later tcm has problem again while traveling 40+ miles down a very busy city street and need to tow vehicle, this new dealership replaced tcm again (repair 4 after tcm recall is issued, 4k miles later car is now throwing check engine lights for bcm, and pcm which I am told is connected to the tcm. I am in the process of filing a lemon law claim against Chrysler, a three year old car that I paid almost $30,000 should not cause so much stress. I cannot allow my family to be in danger, I have been lucky that neither issue resulted in a car accident. Chrysler needs to buy my vehicle back. I do not wish to talk to them about servicing the vehicle again, or trading them for a newer vehicle as they have lost my trust as a company.

44 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

46 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 05/24/2016

This car is 3 years old and we have had to replace the body control module (bcm), and transmission control module (tcm). The check engine light is still on and Dodge is still trying to find out what is wrong with it. Before replacing the body control module the car wasn't starting so the battery was replaced, it turns out the bcm was staying on and drawing power form the battery while the car was off. We were constantly having to jump the car to get it started. After that the transmission started acting funny it would shift hard, shift into low gears while driving on the freeway. Also when first started or stopped at a traffic intersections the vehicle would shift into 4th gear on its own unless in sport mode and done manually. This makes it accelerate very slowly which is dangerous especially when pulling out into an intersection. After replacing the tcm the issue with the transmission is still occurring, it is currently being looked and the cause is still unknown.

47 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 05/10/2016

The car will randomly go into neutral mode, and will not stay in gear while driving. It will say gear not available on the screen. It has done it about 5 times in less than a month. The dealer has replaced the tcm twice, but that does not work. It has been in the shop about 4 times for this one issue. Once in a safe place I can change gears but still says no gears available. Turn off and on the car, and it will not start. Wait 20 min and it might work again, but not sure for how long. If I can get it to start, there have been times I can not get it out of park. The last time it happened was on may 10th 2016 on highway 290 in houston. The car said service transmission, but now I would be costing. If I give it gas the rpms will go up, but the mph will go down. I had to cost it off the freeway since there was not a shoulder to stop on. Once I got it off the freewway, I had to push it to a parking lot. This is what I have been dealing with, and the dealer can't fix the issue. The put in a new tcm on the Dart on 5/10/16, picked it up at around noon. At around 8pm the car had the same issues again.

54 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 11/09/2015

I got a recall letter for the tcm (that was a month ago. ) have had my car in three times because it wouldn't start since I got the letter . Had to have it towed two of the three times. Was in yesterday & was told the problem is the recalled part & there is nothing they can do until I get the second notice stating the part is ready . It is a gamble every time I go to start my car as to whether or not I will be able to get where I'm going . The car has shifted into neutral on 3 separate occasions all of which has been @ a stop sign with my foot on the brake . If this isn't going to be resolved till sometime in January maybe there should be dealer cars made available for us to use . I bought a new car so I would have reliable transportation & I'm not feeling that's what I've got right now . I love my car but I'm very frustrated right now. Thank you.

55 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 09/03/2015

9/03/15 my transmission went out without warning while going approx 65 mph on the highway. Rpm's shot up and the trans went out instantaneously. I was able to pull over, engine and trans lights came on, car would not go in any gear. I shut the car off and was not able to restart it, meanwhile I sat like a sitting duck waiting for a tow truck, hoping that the speeding cars and semi trucks approaching would not crash into me. I had the car towed to a dealer. Dealer said the cause was a flashed pcm, it was reprogrammed I was told it fixed the problem. On 9/05/15 1 hour after coming home from work the car would not start again. Dealer was closed for the weekend so I let it sit for a while, 2 hours later the car started but would not go in reverse, an hour later, the car had reverse but no drive. The next morning the car started, all lights were off and all gears worked and I was able to drive it to the dealer. The dealer said codes were now showing it was the trans range sensor. Got the car back for the 2nd time on sept. 16. Sept. 19 I was driving home from work in the next state, the trans went out again while going 65 mph on the highway again! this time I was left stranded over 70 highway miles from home. After waiting a few hours I was finally was able to drive home, taking take side roads in case the car stopped again. What should've been a 1 1/2 hour ride home on the interstate took me over 5 hours driving on side roads. This car is going back to the dealer again for the 3rd time in 2 1/2 weeks! this is unacceptable, there are too many reports involving this issue on several websites I do not feel safe driving this car anymore or having my wife and kids in it. This is an extremely serious safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately! something needs to happen before (not after) this "known" transmission stalling issue causes a serious accident and kills someone!.

56 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

60 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 12/16/2014

While driving, the car sounds an audible alert, the check engine light goes on, and displays "service transmission" on the car's dash/display. When this happens, the car drops into neutral and I do not have access to any gears. Attempting to shift into neutral and back into drive displays a "gear not available" message on the car's dash/display. The car had to be towed to the dealer, or if I power the car down and start it back up, I can get the gears back, but the check engine light remains on and the car does not shift properly and the car is sluggish. This car is the 1. 4l turbo with a dual dry clutch transmission. This problem has happened three times now within the last 1. 5 months. The first time, the dealer did a "refresh" on the computer and stated that the computer had to "relearn" the transmission. The second time (12/09/2014) the dealer said the transmission control module needed to be replaced. The third time occurred today (12/16/2014) and it is at the dealer now waiting on someone to look at it. Today when this happened, it was very difficult to get my car across three lanes of traffic and onto the shoulder of a major highway in new jersey. This almost caused an accident which would have resulted in serious injury as it would have involved a motor vehicle accident with an 18-wheeler semi-truck.

61 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 10/20/2014

On the interstate driving 80mph, went to accelerate and the car just revved up to 7500rpm, like it was in neutral. Checked the gear shift and tried again with only getting the car to rev. Pulled over to the side of the road and turned the car off for about 10 minutes, turned it back on it acted like the transmission wasn't catching. Not once did it show any check engine light or any other warnings. Had it towed to the dealership where it took them 2 days to replicate the problem and then it finally turned on the check engine light. It has been being repaired for over a week now because no one seems to know what exactly is wrong with it even though it had a check engine light for the transmission control module.

62 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 10/14/2014

I have been having the same issue and a burning smell happening. In October the dealer replaced the tcm at 33,000 miles and stated I was lucky to be under warranty since it would cost $600+ out of pocket. Now on christmas morning I had the check engine light, service transmission message, and autostick not available message display. I was able to limp home to have r, n, d show gear not available. After waiting I turned the car on and the messages cleared. Then 2 days later I was an hour late to work since the messages and shifting problem occurred on the highway. During traffic stoppages I could not get up to speed fast enough and almost caused an accident. The message and issue cleared again when I left work and I drove home but now it shifts at 5,000+ rpm when accelerating after a stop sign. Burning smell is back and car is sluggish. Seems like Chrysler is waiting for enough people to die before addressing the issue. Currently have 39,000 miles on car. Before the issue in October there was also a "software update" for this after I had it about a week with 500-600 miles around mid August 2013. I purchased this car new to have reliable transportation for work. Now it seems I have an unreliable car with loan payments and dealer service costs since Chrysler doesn't cover transmission problems with the power train warranty apparently.

63 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Dart. While driving various speeds, the transmission failed to respond without warning. The vehicle was turned off. After awaiting ten minutes, the tcm had reset. 64 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

I have had my Dart for almost 2 1/2 years and it has been a problem from the start. I have had my tcm replaced, transmission, 2 clutches, numerous codes and speakers, gas cap, and multiple recalls. It has been in the shop over a dozen times and for over 30 days. I have had problems the entire time I have owned the car and am currently in my second time of dealing with Chrysler to buy back my vehicle and they still are not doing a thing about it. With the vehicle not shifting right and losing power and now my defroster is going out also the recalls on it but they have no fix for I refuse to let my newborn son be in my vehicle and Chrysler definitely knows about it yet wont do anything about it even tho it is a lemon.

65 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Dodge Dart

Failure Date: 07/31/2014

I had just gotten off the freeway on my way home, when my vehicle reached rpms of over 7500 and then died. I lost all power, electronics, motor. . . Everything. My steering wheel locked up but I was able to get the vehicle off the road. I tried restarting, but the vehicle showed no signs of power. After about 20 minutes, I was able to get the vehicle running and drove it to the dealership immediately. The dealership has been very good to me. But after replacing the transmission control module twice, they are now replacing the transmission. I still am concerned that the vehicle is unsafe. The dealership is telling me that the tcm caused the other electronics on the vehicle to fail, but as I understand it, the tcm was not faulty, the transmission is. Needless, I do not feel safe driving this vehicle and believe that Dodge should step up and replace it. The vehicle is a year old and has been in the shop numerous times for the transmission issues. Last week, the vehicle became a safety liability for Dodge as it failed while it was being driven.
