1 Ball Joint problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

While I love my 2001 Dodge Durango rt, there are a couple of serious problems / safety issues the vehicle has. Number one is the passenger front seat is very loose and rocks back and forth during acceleration and braking which could cause severe injuries if the vehicle was in a wreck, whiplash etc. In doing my research the average fix that the dealers will do costs between 600-800. 00 which is to replace the motor assembly. There are links on various forum for instructions to fix yourself for about 40. 00 orovoodmg a better fix that the dealers will not provide, but it is complicated and very labor intensive. My number one concern is to be safe and have safe passengers! to be able to bring this into Dodge and get this permanently fixed at no cost to me. There are untold amounts of Dodge Durango owners out there with this same issue, which Dodge currently will not recall. The other two issues are incredibly defective ball joints. Since Dodge recalled these trucks for the ball joints many including mine previous to me buying it, we're brought in for recall repair in 2006. Please note the suspension components company called "moog" fixed this Dodge engineering problem for this year make and model with their own specially designed ball joint. As far as the brakes go this a very heavy SUV, in which if one needs to stop quickly and the brakes fail or skid the wheels due to lock up this again like the seats is a very important safety issue that Dodge needs to correct. I have faith that Dodge will take care of more consumer issues than Ford ever will.

Example if you put a close pin on a bicycle tire to get it to make noise. Ive had it looked at by a dealer and a garage and both seem to cant any thing wrong with it . 12 Ball Joint problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/05/2009

My '99 Dodge Durango is sitting on it's 3rd set of ball joints, and I am told it needs another. I've repeated been told "you're lucky your whole wheel didn't come off while you were driving". This is ridiculous! I am tired of fixing the same problem over and over! I have seen hundreds of complaints at various sites from other consumers complaining of the same problem! why is nothing being done? how many people/families/children will have to die before this auto giant is forced to do the ethical and honorable action of properly repairing this problem? I don't care how much it costs them; they created the problem. Almost all auto giants are receiving bail out money from the government. . . Million. . . They need to use some of it for a good purpose.

Front ball joint making a clicking sound. In 2005 got a recall letter. Called dealer and they said the recall didn;t effect my vehicle. Called several times in the next year to see if the recall was on my vehicle yet. The dealer told me no. Vehicle kept making clunking noise. At 100,00 miles I pulled in my driveway and the wheel feel of at the right ball joint. Tow truck couldn't tow the vehicle due to being all wheel drive. I called Chrysler and they told me it wasn;t their problem. I had to hire a mechanic to replace the ball joints in my driveway. Tires have worn terrible and truck kept coming out of alignment. I kept good rotation on the tires but couldn't keep the inside from wearing. I do have the defective ball joints.

15 Ball Joint problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/26/2009

I have 99 Dodge Durango I have had it since 2004 then I have had to put over 3,000 into the front end. I have had the ball joints (upper and lower) replaced. My ball joints broke the first time and my car almost crashed into a tree. I was just doing 60 down a highway. I turned and got about 200 feet into a driveway and my tire just fell off and my whole car hit the ground. I know that this has been checked. Everyone I know who has 99-2002 Durango has this problem. If I would have been going 60 and this happened then. . . I would not be here typing this. It should be a recall, it makes this vehicle unsafe. I just had my ball joint replaced again, not to mention I had to buy brand new tires because the bad ball joint rubbed my brand new tires down. This is a manufactures mess up. There is no way this many people have had a problem with this and nothing has been done about it.

16 Ball Joint problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/24/2009

I bought a 2001 Dodge Durango at haar Toyota. When I went to get a sticker there I watched and the guy didn't check the vehicle thoroughlythat night the passenger tire looked low I kicked the tire and it moved. Brought vehicle to dealer two days later they put a new steering rack and drivers ball joint in vehicle. 5days later I had vehicle checked by my mechanic he said passenger side ball joint was bad. Brought vehicle back to dealer they say it is fine will not fix because nothing wrong. What should I do my warranty is only 30 days of which I have about 1 week left. My contention is that the original sticker should never have passed if performed correctly.

Failure Date: 10/12/2008

Had uneven wear after I had put new tires on with a four wheel alignment. 18 Ball Joint problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/28/2008

Every year when I go to get my 2001 Dodge Durango inspected I first have to replace two front tires due to excessive inside wear. Then I get told all 4 ball joints are no good. I have had to replace all 4 ball joints three times in three years while putting only about 20000 miles on this vehicle yearly. It is a 500. 00 a month car payment that I am afraid to take my three children in. Why has this vehicle not been dealt with in a harsher manner. The complaints online are numerous and extremely serious in nature. How many people have to die from poor engineering.

19 Ball Joint problem of the 1998 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/26/2008

Dodge Durango 1998 ball joint failure and full separation with no warning, which caused extensive damage in an on-road accident to several vehicles. Dodge corporation will not acknowledge the hundreds of ball joint failures and lost lives due to this poor design and defective ball joints. My vehicle has 84,000 miles on it and ball joints have been replaced 3 times! ball joints, according to top mechanics are supposed to last about 100,000 miles before replacement and rarely separate. These components used by Dodge are deadly, deficient, and ought to have been recalled years ago. How many more lives have to be lost before the issue is properly dealt with??.

30 Ball Joint problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/17/2004

Tihs complaint is about Chrysler's handling of recall d47 on the Dodge Durango. My vehicle was exhibiting the symptoms, and I needed to drive it cross country. The local dealer and the 800 line were not willing or able to make a timely repair. I was told I could have it repaired at a local shop and they'd reimburse. I did that, incurring $1,290. 75 in repair costs for the ball joints and the tires that had been prematurely worn due to the ball joint problem. Chrysler only reimbursed me $449. 81, saying that's all that's covered. They said the dealer couldn't make the determination if the other items were required, despite the fact that the dealer was unable to due the repair. I would like assistance in getting Chrysler to fully reimburse me for these repairs and hope that they can be encouraged to not skimp on other reimbursements they need to make.

Noise and knocking sound coming from front end while driving, could also feel the knocking thru steering wheel. Took vehicle to goodyear to have tires rotated and was told by them that all ball joints were worn and would probably fail soon, possibly causing and accident. Called dealer and they said they would replace the parts under warranty (only 28,000 miles on vehicle), but couldn't guarantee that they wouldn't have to be replaced again in 30,000 miles. Contacted Dodge and found out there was no recall on this problem and "there was not enough evidence of a problem to support a recall at this time", but that is not what I read on the internet.

35 Ball Joint problem of the 2002 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/26/2004

Visited your website to check on reports because we have a 2002 Durango r/t which is ommiting a small constant sqeaking noise from both sides at the front of the vehicle and am horrified to read about the problems people have been having with ball joints. I am extremely worried now and want to know if I can get the dealers anything about it at no cost to me or if it is still at the stage where it has not been acknowledged by them and will not be until somebody dies as usual. The issue with the wiper motor I presume I can make an appointment with a local dealer and have this changed free of charge. I look forward to your reply, many thanks neill griffin .
