April l. Ray(spouse), told me of noise coming from the front end of the vehicle, around wheel wells, before I could have this looked into, today(December 19, 2004), my wife was driving down woodrow kay rd. In rockmart GA. , as she drove up a slight incline that bared to the left, she noticed the driver side wheel started to wobble, before she could get over the hill, and clear of any traffic, she heard a snap or pop sound, then the driver side wheel bowed out and she lost control of the vehicle. Which in an instant threw her across the opposite lane and into the embankment on the other side of the road. After hitting the embankment the vehicle came to a rest on the driver side bumper, the driver side wheel was completely bowed towards the rear of the vehicle. This is a current insurance claim, but we are waiting to hear of the results, which also resulted in two false citations for her driving ability.
We received a recall notice concerning the front end problems on the Dodge Durango but it does not include the 2 wheel drive after 100,000 miles. We are 11,000 outside this notice but have not been able to drive our vehicle due to this problem. There are no restrictions on the 4x4. This seems pretty biased on the part of the Dodge corporation. Why the descrepencyi?????????.

When driving my 2003 Durango at times it feels like the front wheels are locking up and the truck begins shaking badly. I have had it in the dealership and they say they can't find anything wrong. I also have been hearing strange noise from the front right right tire well. Also, my glovebox started hanging down and when I asked the dealership to fix it they charged me and told me that the warranty would not cover it. We don't use the glove box, so the problem was not caused by misuse. At 20,000 miles the warranty should have covered the problem because it is obviously a defective part.
While driving 30 mph front end collapsed. As a result front wheels separated.
The front end went out at 70,000. The mechanic stated the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The manufacturer stated they were not aware of any defect.

Today I sent the following email to Subaru of America concerning the investigation of abs defect in wrx vehicles. I have experienced the problem on numerous occasions, and on no occasion was I driving in an "aggressive" manner or "hard' braking. Nor was my previous complaint to NHTSA a "parroting" of someone else's problem from the impreza website, as Subaru has accused. The abs is overly sensitive to bumpy surfaces and is a safety risk, period. My email to Subaru of America: I have just reviewed soa's letter dated 9/10/04 to NHTSA re your investigation of alleged abs problems in wrx's. I am dismayed by soa's inability to document, and refusal to acknowledge, the abs problem. I am insulted that Subaru blames the problem on "aggressive driving patterns. " the problem regularly occurs at one point in my daily urban commute when I brake for a traffic light over a bumpy surface. I am using only 15% of the braking capability at 20 mph when the abs fault occurs-- hardly "aggressive" or "hard" braking, and hardly a situation that only aggressive performance drivers would encounter. When it occurs, there is a sudden, dramatic reduction in deceleration. Deceleration is no longer proportional to pedal pressure, and increased pressure is ineffective while the abs is "confused" by the bumpy surface. Several times I have had scary moments when the drop in deceleration has resulted in nearly rear-ending the vehicle in front of me. I am very puzzled why an event, that for me is so predictable and repeatable, has escaped your analysis. I further take offense to the claim in your letter that many of the complaints to the NHTSA were dishonest repetitions of problems a few had described on an owners website. Nice try, but I can attest to the validity of the problem in my car, having experienced it dozens of times. Discussion on the website has informed owners of the problem and may have prevented some accidents, something I cannot say for Subaru! charles f. Visser.
I have a 2002 Dodge Durango 2 wheel drive that has 45000 miles ,the front end makes loud squeking noise,no matter where or what you are doing with it, just getting in it does this. Dodge checked balljoints and said they are fine, not to worry???I have had to have the front end aligned 5 times 3 times under warranty and it still is wearing out tires and pulling to one side or the other, again Dodge says there is no problem. I guess when I,die behind the wheel then they wont have a problem!!!!! all I want is for them to fix this, no questions asked they dont have to admit to anything. Please help me.
Failure has not occurred as of yet, but have had entire front-end replaced on vehicle on 9/12/2002. On 3/31/2004 we had vehicle checked again and was told by the dealership that the left side lower control are was worn and will need to be replaced again soon. I have receipts and quotes from dealership and will be happy to submit copies.
Front end produces a loud popping noise.
Front end produced a knocking noise.
We noticed a squeaking in the front-end while our 2001 Dodge Durango was under warranty. Took to Dodge dealership in brownfield, texas, and mechanic could not duplicate the sound. Said we probably were hearing vibrations from cd's in the side-door pockets. Car now has 60k miles, and over last 10k miles or so, have noticed four things 1) front end making popping sound, like a joint pop on your ankle or something and 2) when turning sharply, vehicle bounces like the wheel was out of round, 3) uneven wear on front tires, especially on left side, and 4) vehicle less stable when hitting bumps as steering tends to move back and forth. Tried to get a mechanic to check last weekend in lubbock, but could not get vehicle into shop due to their workload. Family member told us that Durango's were on the news about what appears to be the same problem. We will be scheduling a visit with a dealership. I hope we don't lose a tire, as we are minimum of 30 miles from a dealership. The consumer took vehicle to a dealership and was informed that the upper and the upper control bushing needed to be replaced because they were worn. The next day after part were replaced there is still a popping and squeaking noise in the front end of the truck.
When making a right hand turn front end produces a knocking noise.
Front end squeaks and produces a loud knocking noise. Dealer states there is no defect.
While making right hand turns, the consumer would hear a loud noise coming from the front end. The dealerships mechanic was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Please provide more information. The cause was not determine.
I previously complained about steering problem with 2000 Dodge Durango. I paid nearly $2,000. 00 in October 2003 to have problem fixed. It still pulled to the left. Mechanic said that it was because the tires were worn out. I just bought new tires and the car pulls to the right real bad. I went back to the tire store they replaced the front left tire and I still have problem. I am concerned for my and my families safety. When I go over a bump or train track or groove in the road my car jumps to the left.
While driving vehicle pulled to the left. The steering was loose. Took vehicle to the dealer, and was told that the vehicle needed a front end alignment. However, the problem recurred.
While driving 50 mph vehicle vibrated in the front. Consumer took vehicle to the dealership.
In January of this year, I was drivng my 2001 Durango home from work and heard a "clunky" noise. Thinking I had a flat tire, I stopped and looked and saw nothing. When I got home, my husband drove it around the block and thought it was the brakes. The next morning, he drove to mckinney Dodge (about 10 miles on the freeway) and as he got off the freeway and pulled into their parking lot, the drivers side wheel turned completely sideways and broke, causing the vehicle to fall down on that side. I pulled into the parking lot a few minutes later and saw my vehicle with the wheel turned outwards and front end down on top of it. They fixed this under the extended warranty. This also caused the mag wheel to bend and the tire not to hold air, so we had to pay another $50 to have that fixed before we could even drive it. The service man had called me at work and told me how fortunate we were that my husband was not still on the freeway when this happened. The Dodge dealership told us this was a very uncommon occurrence. I now feel that we were deceived by Dodge trying to cover up this problem and worry about our daughter and grandchildren in their new 2003 Durango. There should be a recall immediately and the problems should be corrected before people are killed. Our Durango had about 39,400 miles on it at the time.
Consumer heard a noise in the front end when making at turn.

While driving and turning left or right consumer heard noise coming from the front end. The dealer stated, to call NHTSA, and gave no further explanation.
Unstable front wheels when going over (perpendicular) bridge seams at posted highway speeds. I. E. The vehicle shifts abruptly and vertually uncontrollably as the front wheels seem unstable. I have to consciously plan and brace for the action.
I have a 2003 dode Durango with 11,841 miles and I already have problems with my wheel sounding like it is going to fall off. I have not taken it to the Dodge dealership yet because I contact cbs news and they told me that you would want to see the car first. I also have a 1999 Dodge Durango with 69,000 miles and its not even drivable at this point because of the wheel. I took it to the dealership 2 weeks after I bought it and they fixed it which was in April, in August of the year I had to put new brakes and roders on the car and at this point I'm afarid that the wheel will fall off. I can no longer afford to pay for this vehicle and fix it and the lien holder is about to take the vehicle. Would you please contact me as soon as possible and let me know what I can do before I let the lien holder have the vehicle.
While driving 2001 Dodge Durango on a straight-away, up hill, the front wheels suddenly veered to the left, and driver lost control of truck, hitting telephone pole head-on, and totalling vehicle.
Vibration of vehicle and front alignmen.
When turning there is squeaking noise in the front end. The noise is worse when the brakes are applied. Sometimes the noise can be heard while driving. The dealership serviced the vehicle 4 times, but was unable to duplicate the problem, so they aren't able to identify the cause.
The left side wheel has vibration, and shaking inside of the wheel well. While traveling on the highway.
