42 Front Suspension problem of the 1998 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/22/2003

I have been reading the complaints on the front suspension of the Dodge Durango after hearing that the vehicle was being investigated for problems with the front suspension and have spent a lot of money fixing the same problems that are being described. My abs light came on intermittently, would stay on for awhile, then go out. When the car was put on the computer, they couldn't find anything. Then my speedometer started jumping from 0 to 60 mph intermittently. Through trial and error, a sensor was replaced and seems to have fixed the problem. I have also spent almost $1000 replacing brakes, etc. Because my brakes went to the floor while driving, luckily only in a parking lot, and the calipers, brakes, rotors, etc. Had to be replaced. I just replaced my tires because of severe cupping. These tires were not that old and this condition would cause my vehicle to hydroplane in wet weather and shudder going 50 mph and over. I also experience that same shudder when the back windows are open and the front windows closed. The whole vehicle vibrates terribly, unless you crack the front windows also.

46 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/06/2003

While traveling at highway speed, the truck suddenly veered to the right and struck a retaining wall and went into a spin. There were no other cars on the road and the weather was clear. Upon exiting the vehicle the passenger side front wheel and suspension were separated form the truck. Had the tire or wheel or suspension failed prior to the accident or were they damaged after impact with the barrier, I am unable to tell. We have no explanation for the sudden loss of control of the vehicle. The truck is currently in possession of allstate insurance agency and VIN is 1b4hs28n5yf266693. Ea03-023.

48 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

49 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/07/2003

I own a 2000 Dodge Durango. On two differant occasions I have taken my Durango to the local Dodge dealer to have them investigate a popping sound in the front end of the truck. On both occasions they said there is nothing wrong and they can't find a problem with anything.

50 Front Suspension problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

There was a knocking noise that sounded like something was loose in the front end of the vehicle. The noise mostly occurred when vehicle went over a bump in the road. Dealership performed a diagnostic test, but no failure code was found.

51 Front Suspension problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/05/2002

My 1999 Dodge Durango has been into the service department many times for this same problem, constant grinding at the front end of the vehicle, the grinding continues when backing out of driveway and on right and left turns. . . The service department continually claims that they "cannot duplicate the problem" the vehicle is unsafe to drive and I would like to see if I can get this vehicle declared a lemon. Thank you. Felecia c. Leak.

52 Front Suspension problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/06/2002

Informed by mechanic that vehicle can no longer hold an alignment under proper specs. The right camber is at -0. 5 degrees & the right castor is at -1. 0 degrees making the Durango hard to steer and brake, as it always wants to sharply travel to the right. Travel upon a highway is very, very dangerous because of the control issue and these SUV's should not be showing older vehicle wear when they only have thousands of miles upon them.

53 Front Suspension problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/04/2002

After my first week of buying this Dodge Durango I lost control of my vehicle, it seems the front end two wheels kept on jumping and I could not stop it. It was not ivolved in an accident but I had to jump in another lane which I could have hurt someone. I did jerk my neck and had to take some iburfrofen for awhile. It also seems the brakes are real touchy. I had my Durango for two years and still afraid to drive it because its a dangerous vehicle. I also witness another person this week driving her Durango well as she turned the corner she lost controll of hers also and I told my daughter thats what happen to me my first time driving mine, im glad I had a witness because no one beleived me when I told them my story. Anyway I beleave its the front suspension you have to be real carefull when you turn and brake. Thanks for listenning to me. Oh yeah mine is a 1999.

54 Front Suspension problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/01/2002

My Durango is all over the road on bumpy surfaces and if you happen to hit a bump on a corner, it jumps across the road. The dealer put on new front shocks, but it did not correct the problem. I have not had a chance to return it again.

55 Front Suspension problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/24/2001

On 7/24/01, while travelling on a major interstate, approximately ten miles north of galveston island, texas, we entered a section of roadway where it had been raining. Our vehicle pulled hard right, across several other lanes of traffic. At first I turned into the "skid" I perceived this to be, but I was about to go off the highway, so I tried to correct slightly back to the left, at which time our vehicle began spinning down the interstate. We spun approximately three turns before finally hitting the concrete barrier between lanes. I just assumed that we had hydroplaned but have since heard of other Durangos having similiar type problems. I had absolutely no control of the vehicle and this is the first time anything like this has ever happened. We have driven it in thunderstorms, snow and even ice and never had any steering problems until this one incident.

56 Front Suspension problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/01/2001

This is a chronic ongoing problem that has never been resolved. The front end of my Durango will not stay aligned for even a week. It is so bad that it pulls so hard to one side, that it becomes undrivable and extremely unsafe. I took it to the dealer, who charged me a lot of money, to continuously tell me they have realigned it and as soon as I leave the parking lot it starts pulling. They try to tell me it is just the road grade. It is not!.

57 Front Suspension problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/01/2001

When driving over a bump at any speed vehicle is hard to control, it goes to left or right. Dealer blamed this on too much tire pressure, and adjusted the pressure. Consumer test drove another vehicle like this, did not handle the way her's did.

58 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/01/2001

When car goes over any bump it make a groaning noise. Sounds like my 10 year old pickup. In the shop 2 time. Not fixed.

59 Front Suspension problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/01/2000

Rear and front power windows have failed to operate twice. The front end makes a romping noise that has been verified not to be tire noise. Sounds like the front end may fall off. Dealer keeps saying that they can't duplicate the noise.

60 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/04/2000

Front left bushing repaired 6 times and still squeaks at every suspension compression.

61 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/01/2000

Problems controlling steering, when hitting very small bumps on the highway. Car tends to jump and skip hard to the left or right, causing the driver to be forced to compensate hard on the steering wheel to keep the back end of the car from fishtailing. Problem keeps knocking car out of alignment & has now caused damage to both front tires. Have been advised by independant mechanics, that the wrong road conditions (rain, snow etc. . . ) could very likely create a fatal outcome if this problem is not corrected.

62 Front Suspension problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/20/2000

The 1999 Dodge Durango was purchased from south oak Dodge in south holland, ill. It was purchased as a demo with a few thousand miles on it. Since that time I have returned to the dealer on several different occasions for an oil change and filter and to report squeaking in the left front tire. I was told that it just needed lubrication. Each time after changing my oil they would lubricate the wheels. I also explained that the noise was worse when I turned the corner and if I had to use the four wheel drive it was difficult to turn. I also explained that the tires were worn on the inside and on occasion it looked like the left front tire was going to fall off. My complaint was dismissed when the service manager said "OH that's not going to happen " shortly thereafter he said the tire had a slow leak and that he would put a plug in it. My complaints were often dismissed. My car only has 57,000 miles on it. This morning I heard the news regarding the ball bearings on the Dodge Durango. In addition to the above this particular carrier will provide a temporary solution to a problem until your warranty expires. When you return you are charged s maximum amount to correct a problem that occurred while the car was under warrenty. This happened to my boyfriend who has a 1998 one ton pickup quad seats four door Dodge 24 valve turbo engine 3800 dooley. The red engine light kept coming on. We took it in to have the problem fixed. The next day we were told that there was no major problem. Not more than 3 blocks away the lightt came on again. We returned to the service departmennt. The manager stated "OH I'ts probably just a sensor problem". If you continue to have problems bring it back in. The red light continued to stay on. Three months later the truck began to run poorly. We took it back to the dealer. The service departmennt stated that he need a valve job that would cost $1,800. 00. Further the extended warrenty had just expired.

65 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/09/1999

Vehicle has been in to the shop repeatedly for front end alignment problems. Currently working with attorney under California lemon law. Vehicle had two front defective tires that were replaced by goodyear. The front end has been confirmed by two different dealerships as being out of aligment five times now. Vehicle initially pulled hard to the right at freeway speeds. After supposedly being repaired by the dealership, the vehicle started pulling hard to the left at freeway speeds. I feel that there is a safety issue because you have to significantly compensate "the pull" by holding the steering wheel at an angle. The pull of the vehicle is damaging the front tire that are currently on the vehicle. (tiresize: 31-1050r15)( dot number: tire size: 31-1050r15 ).

While driving approximately 60mph, the vehicle would start to vibrate. Rear windows down & front windows up.

68 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Vehicle fishtails when riding over ripples and bad roads. Dealer rotated/balanced tires and aligned car. Still makes you feel you are going to loose control on bad roads. Tv program showed an account of a problem similiar to mine which dealt with a steering and stabilization defect. We nearly lost control when pulling an RV recently. Dealer didn't know what else to do about problem at the time.
