Took my Durango in to my mechanic to have tires balanced and rotated and a 4-wheel thrust alignment. He advised me that my upper and lower ball joints were bad. I called the dealer who wanted me to have their mechanics diagnose it. They agreed that the ball joints were bad. I contacted Chrysler's customer service due to the expiration of the 36,00 mile warranty. They agreed to replace the ball joints and I would pay a $100 deductible. A file was opened. On August 2, 2002 I took my Durango to my mechanic to have a routine tire balance and rotation done. My mechanic advised me that my lower ball joints were bad. I took it to the dealer , but Chrysler refused to do anything to correct the problem.

Went in to have tires rotated after just purchasing this used 1999 Dodge Durango. The service person said that the front right tire was wearing funny and noticed that there might be a suspension problem. I took the vehicle to a suspension specialist and was told that the front right bushings on the arm control needed to be replaced. This is a part that cannot be purchased separately. I have notifed Dodge of the problem and they wash their hands of this issue. However, there is a sticker in my window of a 21 point check performed by the dealership which included tire alightment. The tire allignment could not have been performed without noticing the problem with the arm control bushings.

Upon a state sfaety inspection I was notified thet both upper and lower ball joints (right side) and lower ball joint (left side) required replacement. Vehicle has 30, 455 miles at this time. The service person advised that Dodge had numerous problems such as these on the 1998 and 199 Durangos. Maybe this justifies a "recall" of some sort! t.

The upper/lower control arms would squeak while in motion. Upon the inspection of the control arm(s) by the dealership, it was determined that the parts were bad and needed replacement. Prior to this incident, the upper control arms were replaced 3 times due to the failure. The consumer felt that the control arms would last longer if they were able to be lubricated and that the tires need to be replaced every 7-10 thousand miles due to he control arm failure. The dealership did not complete the alignment when the control arms were replaced.

Safety problems with Dodge Durango including replacing ball joint twice in 4 years, repalcing front roters twice in 4 years, complaining about problems with brakes and the transmission. This vehicle failed two safety inspections for these problems. These are serious safety concerns and have been down played when I have taken my car in and I have not been notified of the seriousness and that these are reoccuring problems with the Durango . Yet the dealership and Chrysler want to claim no responsibility.

Replacement upper & lower ball joints & control arms failed at 45,551 miles. Dealer auto tech replaced parts - the right side ball joint fitting was initially "drilled & tapped" by Dodge auto tech on 4/10/01. The cost for installation and parts for second replacement were not warrantied by Dodge or mopar - 12,000 mi. Warranty offered by mopar - we were 1,834 miles over the warranty. We paid half the cost on this safety hazard repair.

Failed vehicle inspection 9/20/01 for low ball joints, (mileage=15,730), vehicle to harr Dodge 9/22/01 to 9/28/01 for repair, harr Dodge stated repair not needed because "ball joint play with-in specs" per service manual (mileage=15,746). Vehicle failed inspection (retest) 10/11/01 for "bad ball joints" (mileage=15,953). Vehicle to sumner's getty/auto repair station, leicester, MA. On 11/18/01 (mileage=16,614) stated "needs two tires (feathering), and ball joints, upper and lower". .

The upper and lower ball joints have failed, causing premature tire wear. This was not noticed till a tire blew because the inner edge of the tire had worn out. A new tire was purchased, but I could nto get an alignment. To replace ball joints, I also need to have the upper control arm replaced. This vehicle has only ever seen highway miles. Balljoint's have failed prematurely. As a member of the national Durango owners club I know this is becoming a very common occurance, even on newer vehicles.

After seeing information on internet concerning defective ball joints that could cause tires to wear out, consumer took vehicle to a local repair shop, technician indicated that ball joints had to be replaced due to worn tires. Consumer had contacted dealer, but vehicle could not be fixed because of expired warranty. The tires wore out due to the ball joints being worn, joints were worn out to a point of vehicle being unsafe to drive, Dodge would not do anything about the faulty ball joints.

Had to replace ft control arms and ball joints only 42. 000 miles bought used from dealer with 29. 000 miles should not happen also every one I talk to with this has experienced same problems ---------- called chry would not help or even pay a portion also called dealer they were same attitude --- I do not believe tgis truck was checked before I bought it fortunately no one hurt.

The failure was detected during a vehicle inspection. No one was injured but I don't believe an investigation should wait until someone is hurt. This is a dangerous situation. The suspension does not perform properly and if you know what the roads are like in mo (not the original home of this vehicle, it was bought used) then the situation is even worse. The faulty ball joints/control arms not only effect the handling of the vehicle but also the wear of the tires and struts/shocks. The ball joints/control arms should not wear out this fast.
