- the contact owns a 2003 Dodge Durango with an odometer reading of 14600 miles. The contact stated that while driving under dry conditions at 35 mph the steering locked. The contact's vehicle crashed into another vehicle and contact sustained injuries. The contact called the manufacturer, but they have not responded. The contact had received recall (04v596000 for the upper ball joint, and when he took the vehicle to the dealer for the repair s,they only lubricated the ball joint, but did not replaced it. This was accompanied by a vibration in the steering wheel, and the vehicle pulling to the right. There was a NHTSA recall # 04v596000, which pertains to the upper ball joint on the front suspension. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Durango. The contact received recall notice number 04v596000 (suspension:front:control arm:upper ball joint). He took the vehicle to a local mechanic and they notified fresno Dodge. The dealer refused to perform the recall repair because the vehicle was not experiencing any failures at the time. The dealer also informed the contact that even though he received a recall notice, he would still be responsible for the repair costs. There have been no failures to date. The current mileage was 113,000 and failure mileage was 75,000. The consumer stated does not understand why the dealer would not perform the recall and would not cover the cost of the recall. The consumer stated would like to be reimbursed for recall performed on the vehicle. The consumer provided the recall issued and the repair invoice. Updated 09/10/07.

We had an appointment to replace the tires on our 2002 Dodge Durango, 2x4 sxt. The firestone mechanic came into the waiting room and informed us that the passenger side upper ball joint was very bad and the drivers side showed signs of wear. This vehicle has 43500 miles on it. There is a recall on the 4x4 models of the Durango, but not the 2x4 models. While their was no injuries or deaths involved, this is a potentially deadly problem and needs to be addressed for all the Durangos.

I notice there is a recall on 2000-2003 Durangos,yet I have the same problem. This is a family car and my children are not safe. There should be a recall for this problem on all Dodge Durangos as it is more widespread than the Chrysler corp. Realizes. Please do some thing to fix this immediately.

: the contact stated while backing out of a drive way at 5 mph, the steering was too hard to operate. No warning lights were illuminated prior to the incident. The vehicle was already subject to a NHTSA recall #04v596000 repair where the upper ball joints were replaced. The contact noticed there were no greasers to maintain the ball joint lubricated. The vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined the ball joint should be replaced again to correct the problem. The manufacturer was contacted who coincided with the dealership. The contact expressed concern because the vehicle had less than 50,000 miles since the recall was performed and another replacement would not guarantee the ball joint's endurance.

Clunking noise in front suspension. Tires wearing unevenly. Inspection by mechanic by finds worn upper ball joints on my 2003 Dodge Durango. Joints have no lubrication and have corrosion because of this. I fear the excessive wear in the upper ball joint might cause it to separate which would result in the loss of control over my vehicle. Dodge already has a recall on this defect but my Durango was not included. All Durangos with this problem should be included. It's a safety thing!!!.

Suspension:front:control arm:upper ball joint excessive wear as in 2000 model year NHTSA campaign id number : 04v596000. This Durango has 85561 miles which is below the 100,000 mile cut off for the recall mentioned above for the 2000 model year. The upper ball joints on both sides show excessive wear and will separate just as the upper ball joints on the 2000 model year. I am having them replaced however, the 1999 model year should have been included in the NHTSA campaign id number : 04v596000.

These upper ball joints on both sides were close to complete failure which would have caused total loss of control of vehicle had I not been in the habit of checking them because of so many reported failures of ball joints on the Durangos.

She took the vehicle to a mechanic and was informed that the upper control arms and ball joints needed to be replaced. She had them replaced. Two years after the replacement, the contact felt the vehicle pulling to one side. She took the vehicle back to the mechanic and was informed that the upper control arms and ball joints needed to be replaced again. She has not gotten them replaced and believes there to be a manufacturer defect because ball joints last 100,000 miles or more. The VIN, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown. I took my 2000 Dodge Durango in for its annual state inspection. When the mechanic put the car up on the lift, the tire fell off. The failure was due to an upper ball joint issue. The mechanic replaced the upper and lower ball joints and replaced the damaged tire. Dodge claims that they will only pay for the cost of the upper ball joint and will not reimburse for the lower joint, tire, or labor. All parts are available for inspection.
