Upper ball joints needed to be replacied every six months!!!!!.

I hear a popping/grinding noise in the front end of my 2003 Dodge Durango. I have taken it to the shop under warranty 3 times. Twice they have replaced parts but it has not fixed the problem. The tires are wearing out on the outside of the tire. The ball joints appear to be going bad.

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Durango. The contact received recall notice number 04v596000 (suspension:front:control arm:upper ball joint). He took the vehicle to a local mechanic and they notified fresno Dodge. The dealer refused to perform the recall repair because the vehicle was not experiencing any failures at the time. The dealer also informed the contact that even though he received a recall notice, he would still be responsible for the repair costs. There have been no failures to date. The current mileage was 113,000 and failure mileage was 75,000. The consumer stated does not understand why the dealer would not perform the recall and would not cover the cost of the recall. The consumer stated would like to be reimbursed for recall performed on the vehicle. The consumer provided the recall issued and the repair invoice. Updated 09/10/07.

Have had several problems with ball joints and control arm on 2000 Dodge Durango, they have replaced them twice under warranty and now they are bad again and need changing and Dodge will not cover since I am over the 100,000 miles warranty. This should be a major recall since I have had numerous problems with this since right after I purchased the car new.

Consumer would like reimbursement for ball joint repairs on a 1998 Dodge Durango. The consumer was aware of Dodge Durango ball joint recall and believes that the manufacturer was going expand the scope of the recall to include his vehicle. That did not occur and the consumer was force to pay for upper ball joint replacement.

We had an appointment to replace the tires on our 2002 Dodge Durango, 2x4 sxt. The firestone mechanic came into the waiting room and informed us that the passenger side upper ball joint was very bad and the drivers side showed signs of wear. This vehicle has 43500 miles on it. There is a recall on the 4x4 models of the Durango, but not the 2x4 models. While their was no injuries or deaths involved, this is a potentially deadly problem and needs to be addressed for all the Durangos.

I call daimlerchrysler motors company llc to ask if their was a recall on my SUV. They said no, but my upper ball joint is defective.

I recently put new tires on my 1999 Dodge Durango, then I went to have the front end aligned only to be told they can't do it because the ball joints are bad. I notice there is a recall on 2000-2003 Durangos,yet I have the same problem. This is a family car and my children are not safe. There should be a recall for this problem on all Dodge Durangos as it is more widespread than the Chrysler corp. Realizes. Please do some thing to fix this immediately.

The contact expressed concern because the vehicle had less than 50,000 miles since the recall was performed and another replacement would not guarantee the ball joint's endurance.

Upper ball joint failure. Loud noise and decreased steering function. Recall on 2002 Durango 4x4 but not on 2002 Durango without 4x4. Perhaps same parts were used in both type 2002 Durango. Recall should be on both. Estimate repair cost $1500.

Clunking noise in front suspension. Tires wearing unevenly. Inspection by mechanic by finds worn upper ball joints on my 2003 Dodge Durango. Joints have no lubrication and have corrosion because of this. I fear the excessive wear in the upper ball joint might cause it to separate which would result in the loss of control over my vehicle. Dodge already has a recall on this defect but my Durango was not included. All Durangos with this problem should be included. It's a safety thing!!!.

Suspension:front:control arm:upper ball joint excessive wear as in 2000 model year NHTSA campaign id number : 04v596000. This Durango has 85561 miles which is below the 100,000 mile cut off for the recall mentioned above for the 2000 model year. The upper ball joints on both sides show excessive wear and will separate just as the upper ball joints on the 2000 model year. I am having them replaced however, the 1999 model year should have been included in the NHTSA campaign id number : 04v596000.

Ball joints. I have been having trouble with my ball joint every since I owned this vehicle. And I believe that my vehicle should have been included in the upper ball joint recall but it wasn't. My upper ball joint don't have any grease fitting so therefore when they dry out it causes them to pop and go bad all over again.

Upper ball joints dangerously loose on 99 Durango. Current recall needs to be extended to the 1999 model year as they have the same problems. These upper ball joints on both sides were close to complete failure which would have caused total loss of control of vehicle had I not been in the habit of checking them because of so many reported failures of ball joints on the Durangos.

Unusual tire wear and noise from driver's side tire area for last several months. Premature severe failure of driver's side upper ball joint and lesser failure of passenger side upper ball joint. Both upper ball joints were replaced and realigned.

Recently took my Dodge Durango 2003 2wd to a mechanic who says I need an new front ball joints and control arm.

She took the vehicle to a mechanic and was informed that the upper control arms and ball joints needed to be replaced. She had them replaced. Two years after the replacement, the contact felt the vehicle pulling to one side. She took the vehicle back to the mechanic and was informed that the upper control arms and ball joints needed to be replaced again. She has not gotten them replaced and believes there to be a manufacturer defect because ball joints last 100,000 miles or more. The VIN, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown. Told ball joints very bad in my 1999 Durango . Chrysler states my Durango is not on their list so I'm out of luck even though they know their ball joints are defective. Repair costs are mine they aren't responsible. If there is another recall they may reconsider. If they have defective parts should they not be held responsible or do I have to be injured or killed first.

The contact's wife had an accident. She lost control while driving around a curve in the road. She heard a popping noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle pulled to the right. She went off the road, hitting the side walk, blew the front right tire, and then hit a small embankment. The vehicle was towed to a body shop. The mechanic took the front right tire off, and the ball joint was broken. There was NHTSA recall 04v596000 on the ball joint, and it was replaced about one month ago.

I took my 2000 Dodge Durango in for its annual state inspection. When the mechanic put the car up on the lift, the tire fell off. The failure was due to an upper ball joint issue. The mechanic replaced the upper and lower ball joints and replaced the damaged tire. Dodge claims that they will only pay for the cost of the upper ball joint and will not reimburse for the lower joint, tire, or labor. All parts are available for inspection.

I own a 2003 Dodge Durango, with 62,501 miles on it. I recently failed state inspection due to bad ball joints. If Chrysler knows they have prematurely failing ball joints they should issue a recall. Now I will have to try and cover a $800 bill myself.

I have a 99 Durango that is making excessive noise coming from the front ball joints. I have had the car checked, and the problem is definitely from the front ball joints. I have been told my vehicle is not covered by this recall. If Dodge is truly concerned about driver safety, why do they limit the recall? if its a safety issue because of defective parts, then why don't they agree to review the vehicle? what recourse do I have?.

Took vehicle in for inspection. Entire front end failed! tires were getting ready to fall off! tires less than 1 year old worn completely bold because of the front end. Was told that the 2000 was recalled for the exact same problem! but my 1998 is not in on recall. . . And it is the exact same problem!!@!!!!!!!.

The dealer did not really want to make an appointment because the contact had not bought the car there, but did so. Two weeks ago, she took vehicle to the dealer and spoke to an individual who told her that the parts had been there, but they ran out of them again, and the parts had been sent to the original dealer.
