Dodge Durango owners have reported 47 problems related to fuel pump (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Dodge Durango based on all problems reported for the Durango.
When filling gas tank, fuel pump shuts off when full, then gas is expelled from the tank. My car was manufactured in Dec 04 and the recall covered cars manufactured through Nov 04. Is there any recourse or appeal available to get this recall extended. Clearly Dodge didn't solve the problem as soon as they think they did, judging by the hundreds of us with the same problem.

When fueling 2005 Dodge Durango the fuel pump clicks off and then a couple seconds later the fuel shoots out of the filler neck of Durango,. .
I bought my Durango over a year and a half ago. This was in the spring when winter rolled around and cooler months all fuel pumps would over fill the fuel tank. Problem went away in the spring then this fall/winter the problem came back again. It acts as if the fuel vapor recovery system is becoming restricted with the cooler temperatures. Causing fuel to be burped out after the pump shuts off.

Fuel filler tube overflows after fuel pump at the gas station hits the auto shut-off point. Notified dealer who said they hadn't heard anything about a problem like that, but offered to look into it for a charge. Approximately 1-2 cups of fuel shoots out of the filler tube every time the vehicle is filled. The fuel sprays over whomever is filling the vehicle and is ruining the paint around the filler tube. There is an extreme fire/explosion danger as well as potential for damage to eyes, lungs, and skin. This is also damaging to the environment.
I have had my Dodge for three years and since then several things had to be replaced on it. I had to have my transmission rebuilt due to the coolant failure. The sensor stopped working and over heated the engine burnt up the transmission. The motor in the driver window burnt out and had to e replaced. The Dodge stop cranking so we had to replace the fuel pump. We are now having problems with the cooling fan on the engine that has burnt out as well. I am very displeased with my truck and will never buy another Dodge again. All these things happened in a year. Man I hate this truck.

One several occasions (more than 3) the vehicle has shut off completely in the roadway with no warning. The fuel seems to be in a vapor lock or the fuel pump is not pumping correctly. There is currently a recall on the 2005 Durango for the exact same problem. I feel this may be the same issue related to my vehicle. The mechanic who evaluated the vehicle stated this was the problem and these vehicles were known to have this problem throughout several years.

Abs light & brake warning lights come on intermittently while driving, when lights were on brakes were touchy. And forget trying to slow or stop when it's raining. Front driver side control arms, ball joints, and bushings replaced. Upper and lower a-arm bushings have been replaced several times due to noise in front end. Dodge dealer could not diagnose this noise or any problem when we took it to them. After two days of it sitting at the dealer we mysteriously had a badly leaking water pump. When we decided not to have the dealer complete the repair they made us pay them a diagnostic fee of $78. 00! two sets of brand new brakes squeaked annoyingly after repeated attempts at lubrication and cleaning, rotors now need replacing. Rear passenger, & front driver power window motors replaced, twice for the rear one. Bad brakes & bad suspension did not mix well when you're a mother of four very active kids. Sometimes I was scared to drive . The cost has become ridiculous and at times unreasonable.
I have had my 2000 Durango in to the dealership (when it was under warranty) for spongy, loose, pulsing braking, noise from the suspension, & a chirping/squeaking sound (alternator like) when it is cold outside. The suspension noise was corrected with new spacers in the leaf springs (which they admitted were a problem). I was told that the pulsing in the brake pedal was normal for the Durango & not to worry about it. They did a balance & told me it took care of the problem. It didn't. They could not "duplicate" the chirping (after 2-3 visits) although it happens for me every day. Now we are out of warranty after reading many of the complaints for the same problems here, I'm just waiting for something to happen. Will my children be injured as a result? this vehicle has 32k miles which are 99% highway is in cherry condtion. I've decided to take it to a private mechanic (napa) & pay for his opinion on the rotors, ball joints, arms, brakes, water pump/alternator, etc. Once I've paid for his opinion, how do we get Dodge to pay for the repairs . . . Since they won't own up to any of the problems. Is there going to be a recall on the rotor/brake problem or the ball joint/arm problem? my brakes usually last at least 60k miles & I have never had problems with suspension on any of my new cars. Then, I'm getting rid of it.
Consumer stated the vehicle made noises. It was taken to the mechanic to diagnose the problem. They had to replace the upper ball joints, the right inner tire rod and the idle arm. The fuel pump assembly malfunctioned which caused the vehicle not to start.

"#5 injector circuit had shorted to the fuel pump input in the powertrain control module. " gas was leaking out of the muffler!.
Consumer's vehicle would stall intermittently during normal operation. Dealership examined vehicle and determined that transmission and fuel pump were both faulty. These components were replaced, and problem was corrected. Please provide any additional information / attachments.
