Tank Assembly Problems of Dodge Durango - part 2

I had my 2005 Durango into the local dealership due to fuel shooting out of my gas tank when I filled it up with gas. I was told after diagnostic tests that it was a faulty inlet check valve and that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. I was quoted $1200 to have the tank replaced. I don't believe that I should have to pay for the tank replacement. After much online research, I see that this has been an ongoing issue on Dodge/Chrysler vehicles for the past several years. It is my understanding that my '05 Durango VIN didn't fall under the 2005 and 2009 recall, but that other vehicles were later added to the 2009 recall. This is my main source of transportation. I have two small children and feel this is safety hazard due to a manufacturing defect therefore, they should be the ones to fix it at no charge to me. My wife and I purchased this pre-owned vehicle 10/29/2011. This happens everytime we fill the tank. The fuel handle clicks to shut of the flow of gasoline to the tank, then about a second later, the fuel begins to spew back out of the tank, draining down the exterior of the vehicle, covering the ground, and myself as I stand nearby. Each time I estimate between 1/4 & 1/2 gallon of fuel is wasted. I verified with my local Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep 5 star dealer that my VIN isn't included in the limited recall from years past. This is a huge safety issue as my wife runs a home daycare and children are frequently in the Durango where fumes are prevelant after the spill.

My Durango is having the same problem that I see complaints all over the place for. I have the fuel spewing back out of the tank when I am pumping gas. . . The nozzle will click off, then a geyser shoots out and it's a lot! this is absolutely ridiculous that nothing has been done to recall/fix this problem. How long or how many vehicles is it going to take before any action will take place. Are ya'll waiting for someone to die. . . A fire. . . Etc?? this is a hazard, not only for the person who is filling up the tank, but for the gas station as well. When this happened to me, my hand burned for the majority of the day, and this was after I washed it several times. . . . Not to mention my scrubs were ruined. Something seriously needs to be done to correct this issue before someone gets hurts!.

The failure mileage was 61,355 and the current mileage was 63,103.

When filling gas tank after nozzle clicks off within second a gush of fuel shoots out of tank. We are only owner of vehicle and this has happened for years. We had fuel tank replaced once and it continues to happen and is getting really bad again. Today so much fuel shot out that if someone was standing there it would of soaked them. It was so obvious and so much that the other people at the station saw it and were in disbelief. This is getting to be real dangerous.

Fuel spits back when attempting to fill tank.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while refueling, fuel would escape from the vehicle filler neck and onto the ground. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number: 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 123,000. . . Updated 04/16/12.

Gasoline spits back from the gas tank every time that the vehicle is filled up. The check value is defective and could easily start a fire during the fill-up because it does not properly shut off. I can not completely fill up my gas tank without the danger of spraying gasoline everywhere at the gas station. A TSB was issued, but it does not cover my VIN.

Every time I fill up with gas it erupts back out of the tank. The local dealer says it is the fuel tank filler check valve. This is located inside the fuel tank. The solution is to replace the fuel tank. Dodge did a recall on the 2005 Durango but not the 2006 Durango. $900 for the part plus labor.

I just purchased a 2005 Dodge Durango. When you fill the fuel tank it overflows fuel out the filler neck spilling down the side of the vehicle and on the ground.

The gas tank began burping upon filling. Once the auto cutoff clicks off, about 5-10 seconds later the tank burps a large puddle onto the ground that is well larger than my foot. Apparently this is an ongoing issue that starts with a recall in 2005. I found this while researching how to repair the issue. The issues have transferred into 2007 Durangos and now to my 2008. Did Dodge fail to accurately address the 2005 recall? this is unacceptable to have repeat failures in a design. This is also an environmental concern that I am inclined to report to the epa. Maybe they will get Dodge to take action. I have written this based on research without contacting Dodge because apparently they did not do anything to help countless other people. My Durango had 51,000 when it started failing.

Every time when filling the fuel tank to full, by hand or automatic shutoff, the gasoline sprays out and overflows onto the car, fuel nozzle, and ground when full. This occurs regardless of the speed of filling the tank.

Anytime we fill the Durango and gas comes back out when the nozzle is removed. There is so much gas that comes out that we have to clean it up from the ground and it has caused bubbles in the paint which have resulted in surface rust. Dealer that we purchased from checked the vehicle and told us there was a clogged filter. We got the filters replaced and when my husband filled it up today 6/26/2012 he said at least 1/2 gallon of gas came back out of the car. This is a dangerous issue because it is leaving gas all on the ground. The only way we can keep the gas from coming out is to remove the nozzle after every single gallon. The fuel sensor inside the car will even register full at 16 gallons of gas when the tank is 26 gallons. We are wasting all kinds of money from the gas coming up, cost of repairing the paint and removing rust and the money we spent on replacing filters that have made this issue worse. This is a serious problem that needs to be fixed. It was fixed in 2005 vehicles but nothing for 2006 and higher even though the problem has not been fixed. Some Dodge dealerships are even calling owners liars saying they have never heard of any issue like this or any recalls ever for this type of issue. Someone needs to make Dodge responsible for fixing this issue. The gas that spills is going to end up causing a fire and killing people one of these days.

While refueling my 2006 Dodge Durango limited at the aafes gas station on randolph afb, fuel came spewing out of the refuel nozzle once the pump cut off and the tank was full this has happened over 60 times since owning the vehicle, and at various gas stations across America. The gas station attendant was very angry with me saying that I overfilled the tank until I explained to him what is going on withthe vehicle. He got a mop hazmat kit and cleaned up the mess before I left. This is a safety and fire hazard. The 2005 Durango was recalled for the same problem, but the 2006 is being ignored. There are too many complaints on this website for nothing to be accomplished for us owners of the 2006 Durango. What will it take, a fire and someone injured or killed to get the message? Chrysler refuses to acknowledge there is an issue, and my local dealer is in denial and knows nothing of the problem.

I did have my vehicle checked at that time (then I was not having problems. ) the dealership said it was taken care of. Now, my Durango is having problems with it. The tank even spews gas when filling slowly.

When I fill up with gasoline, if I do not stop 2 gallons shy of a fill or slow it to a trickle, it will spew about a 1/2 gallon of gasoline down the side of the vehicle. I have done an online search and found Chrysler is recalling close to 25,000 2005 Dodge Durango vehicles as the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. This could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. I called and my particular 2005 Durango was no included in the recall while clearly having this same problem. I would like to see if Dodge would expand their recall to those experiencing this exact problem.

The case manager looked up my VIN and said the defect is not covered under any extended warranty for my specific vehicle.

When I fill the gas tank, gas spits out . Has happened more than a few times and I read that this is a recall. My dealership shrugs it off and told me its not a recall and just dont fill up my tank.

While filling up the fuel tank and relying on the automatic shut off, gas will spew out covering the person standing there, the ground, and the side of the vehicle. Even when approximating the tank being full and trying to control the flow by hand, gasoline will overflow just not with the same force. Besides the annoyance of being covered in and smelling like gasoline, this defect poses major safety risks. Man up Dodge and help us get this fixed.

Around August 10, 2011, as I was getting fuel it sprayed fuel everywhere after the nozzle had stopped. I have even tried to slow the rate of fuel and that does not matter. Every time I fill up the tank, it sprays everywhere. I tried different gas stations and still no luck. This poses a safety hazard as all of the fuel spilled on the vehicle, the ground, and on my clothes.

When removing the nozzle after filling the gas tank to full, quite a bit of fuel splashes out of the tank. This has happened several times, nearly every time I have filled up the car.

Each and every time I've let the gas pump auto-fill the tank, gas comes spurting back out. I no longer fill up the tank completely and have to manually stop the gas pump, in a sense, guessing as to when the tank is almost full.

Every time I fill my gas tank the following events take place: the gas stations nozzle clicks when the tank is full. A bubbling sound is heard followed by a gush of gasoline spewing from the fill neck onto me and the vehicle. The only way to prevent this from occuring is to try and guess when the tank is nearing full and stop pumping. I've read numerous article about idential problems. There was a recall for the 2005 Durango but no recall for the 2006 Durango. I've contacted Dodge and it is something that'd I'd be responsible for paying for. Therefor I haven't fixed it because of the expense involved.
