2 Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2012 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 02/02/2020

I have been reading about my issue all too often online and have yet to see any resolution at all. I have a 2012 Dodge Journey and honestly it is scary driving it! the car actually shuts off in the middle of the road without warning. The issue it keeps showing is a crank sensor code. The sensor has been replaced 3 times now! it is also not an easy job since on an all wheel drive model, there are many hours involved to replace it. But if you're on the highway and driving normally the car will die at any moments notice and give no warning. Seems like there are many many others having the same issue. If you do a quick search and type Dodge Journey dies while driving you will easily find many people with same issue. Many people spending their hard earned money on repairs that get them nowhere! this really is sad and Dodge has done nothing to help except continue to put peoples lives at risk and taking their money for repairs! please help! I have been having this issue over 30 times in the past few months! the car is not safe to drive.

3 Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2017 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 01/20/2020

My 2017 Journey was manufactured in August of 2016 Dodge has a recall for Journeys for crankshaft position sensors for Journeys that were made from may of 2016 to July 2016 my car has been stalling out since 40,000 miles and the problem is getting worse upon research this may be the crankshaft position sensor and there have been multiple complants online stating others cars have had issues with this sensor but Dodge only did a limited recall on these vehicles. My car jerks 3-4 times when in reverse then stalls out or it jerks 3-4 times and stalls at stop lights or signs. Other online complaints ive seen state that people have had issues with it also stopping mid driving at high speeds.

4 Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 11/20/2019

Engine cuts off while going down the road without warning. The problem is the crankshaft position sensor. Very dangerous nearly killed my wife and I when a 18 wheeler barely missed us. We were on a major interstate doing 70mph when it just shut off. There are active recalls for this problem. Chrysler is aware of the problem but will only talk to people whose vehicle is listed under their recall list. The problem is a lot more widespread. Recall number is s-89.

6 Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 08/16/2019

My 2016 Dodge Journey experienced a crankshaft position sensor "a" circuit malfunction (obd code p0335) while I was driving, resulting in an engine stall and total loss of power. Nearly resulted in a crash. I've since observed from other drivers that this is a very common failure on the Dodge Journey, and a serious safety issue. A recall for this problem (safety recall s89 / NHTSA 16v-907) was issued in February 2017, but applies only to a limited number of vehicles built from may to July 2016. Based on my own experience and that of other owners as reported online, I believe the issue is more widespread than the NHTSA apparently believes, and I suggest that the existing recall be expanded considerably.

7 Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2014 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 08/06/2019

On approximately 6-8 different occasions in the last 3 years, my 2014 Dodge Journey has shut itself off while I've been driving it. The first 3 times I was driving straight & after the 3rd time, the dealer replaced the crank shaft sensor but it continued to happen. There seemed to be nothing to note when it would happen, until recently, it shut off on 2 occasions when I went over a bump & going in a forward motion in both cases. The first time I was going 55mph, the 2nd 25mph so not sure the speed had anything to do with it. Brought it back to dealer & they did an engine control module update. This was one week ago and it happened again today. I was again in a forward motion, actually just started accelerating from a red light, so was probably not going more than 35-40mph when it happened. I felt like this is an issue your organization needed to know about on many levels but the largest one for me is as a full-time mom. I have had my son in the car with me on almost every one of these occasions and to say it's terrifying would be an understatement. Everything on the car locks and I have about 3 seconds to try and guide my car out of traffic without getting hit. The car does restart once you put it in park and push the ignition button but I would not wish this fear on my worst enemy. Hope this helps in some way. Btw, today I immediately drove my car to my husband at work and he will be driving it back to the dealership today until they can hopefully fix it for good. Although at this point, if I never saw that car again, it'd be too soon.

8 Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 04/17/2019

My wife was driving her 2016 Dodge Journey on a street with a 45 mph speed limit when it suddenly lost power and died. It was towed to the dealership and they replaced the crankshaft sensor plug . We picked up the vehicle on 4/19/19 and it died again on 4/22/19. This time, the car was stationary, but had I be towed again. This time, they replaced the crank shaft sensor. We found a recall issued by NHTSA - recall s89/NHTSA 16v-907 covering 2016 Journeys for the engine built from may 8,2016 to July 12, 2016. The build date on the Journey we bought was 8/13/2015 and in service date of 1/15/2016. I called Chrysler and they denied any recall initially ( same as the dealership ) but then said the build date was set outside of the time frame set by NHTSA. I have the original part, replaced. In my possession. I feel that this problem may be more widespread and may not be reported by more people based on lack of acknowledgment by both Chrysler and the dealership as they are writing it off as a part that just broke .

9 Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2012 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 03/18/2016

While driving on public highway the engine stalled, steering locked and had to coast to a safe spot. This is the 3rd time this has happened. 1st time March 2016 mileage 94470, 2nd time end of October 2016, current time August 2017. Each time the computer tells the dealership it is the crank sensor which we replace. This is very scary and my daughter is afraid to drive the car. We have been lucky to be able to get off the road so far, but are afraid of it happening again and being in an accident. Wondering if Dodge is going to do something about this since I see many other similar complaints posted.

10 Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 08/21/2013

Car all of a sudden shuts off while driving down the street at various speeds. 35-70 steering wheel locks, you have very little control. Very very dangerous has been hooked up to certified auto shop diagnostic computer all codes come back fine and they can not tell me why this happens. I already replaced crankshaft sensor to test if that was what was wrong with it. I am not going to go thru all these fixes for testing. Dodge needs to do a recall on this problem. I called Dodge direct to start a recall process. Something needs to be done before a fatality happens!.
