The factory-installed parkview rear backup camera on my 2018 Dodge Journey is suffering from an intermittent, severe component failure. The video display randomly flips completely upside down while reversing. Frequently, the system fails entirely, leaving a completely blank or black screen on the center infotainment console.

I went to the dealership for the recall, and they said that they changed the camera. But that did not fix it. They told me it was a wiring issue or something in the radio. They did not fix the recall. They wanted me to pay for a diagnostic.

I recently received a safety recall in the mail from fiat Chrysler automobiles stating that the rearview camera in my vehicle, a 2019 Dodge Journey crossroad, needed to be replaced, as they were found to be defective and in violation of the federal motor vehicle safety standard. I scheduled an appointment at my local Dodge dealer, dayton andrews Dodge, on Friday 07/31 for 0745 on 08/03 for this replacement. After dropping off my vehicle at the appointed date and time and being brought back to my house by their "shuttle," a consumer grade minivan which I shared with four other passengers, I received a call at approximately 12:30 pm, where I was told they had "evaluated" my vehicle to determine whether or not I needed to have my backup camera replaced, determined that it needed replacement, and that they would need to order the backup camera and related parts which would arrive in a few days, at which time I could bring my car in again to actually have it installed. This made no sense, since this was a mandatory safety recall, and not replacing the backup camera was never an option for them, yet they booked my appointment knowing they did not have the part in stock. I was never once told that this appointment would be anything but getting the backup camera replaced, and if its efficacy was in question, they could have easily asked me on the phone if it was working properly (it has not functioned properly for years), or looked at the blank screen while the vehicle was in reverse upon my arrival at the dealership, then sent me on my way. Instead, I was duped into wasting an entire day of my life for my vehicle to receive an "evaluation," which I was never once informed of nor gave consent to, but through which they had determined that my vehicle required a fluids flushing and spark plug replacement for approximately $1100. This is obviously fraud being perpetrated to get people to purchase unnecessary, overpriced repairs.

Won't start sometimes. This is because the brand new battery is slowly draining. Yet nothing has been left on, no lights, doors all securely shut. Nothing is left on that's visible anyway. Left me stranded and had to get towed or jumped. The battery is brand new as I mentioned. Afraid it's going to stall out on me and even not start up when I turn it off to run into the store! even though I have been charging the battery until someone can figure this out, I don't trust it.

On two separate occasions my doors have locked on there own while I was inside the car and I was not able to open the doors or manually unlock the door. My front lock levers are long enough that you can get a decent grip to pull them up and in normal cases they unlock pretty easy. But when they lock on your own I don't think you get pul) them up with a pair of vice grips. Both levers on the back doors drop almost all the way into the door panel. Most people probably can't open them even without them being glitched. . The only way I was able to unlock them was by the key fob. The unlock switches are useless as well. The changes of it happening are slim but if it happened during a flood or fire and I didn't know to use the key fob. There was no threat to me either time it happened and I still somewhat panicked. Lucky or I guess unlucky for me I knew it was probably a electrical problem since I also have some electric problems that happen as long as the main battery is connected. Key fob and key could be in another universe and my wipers will move, my horn will randomly go off. I've not had a horn since my mother bought me the vehicle. There is more and these seem to come and go. My doors random lock after I shut the doors. I have left my keys on the dash shut the door and got locked out. Once my dog's where in the car and it was hot inside. Luckily the locksmith was 2 minutes away and I didn't have to break a window. Another time the same thing happened with my dogs in the car and it instantly unlocked it self. The only other time it's happened when my keys were in the car I got my dog to step on the switch and unlock it. Now I just don't leave my keys in the car. Also every now and then my dash lights cannot go up to the brightest level because it turns on my interior lights before I can get to that level. So I have to keep them on dim or ride around with my dome lights on. Dodge wont calibrate a new computer. Ends up being a lot of $ to stay safe.

This car is a 2019. The transmission was replaced when it was just one year old. The transmission is now needing to be replaced again. The transmission issue has also caused the drive shaft to need replacing as well. The flag shaft in the engine had to be replaced twice in one year costing over $1,000 each time. I believe these vehicles should have more active recalls. In doing research this is an issue that many owners of this car face. I have had this vehicle for only 3 years and I am now faced with not being able to afford the repairs needed (over 6k). They are selling this car and it is a lemon.

I was backing out of the driveway. Pulled forward to a two-way stop and my driver side headrest exploded and shot my head forward and I almost went in a two-way traffic. Now I have whiplash.

Back hatch/door/trunk does not close and latch. This is dangerous because things could fly out. I find it very odd that this vehicle doesn't have a trunk release from the inside and you have to manually open it and get out of the vehicle. No button option on key fob to open the "truck" or hatch either. Never had a vehicle without a release to open it from inside the vehicle. I pick up grocery orders and have to get out every time. Anyway it is malfunctioning now and not closing/latching.

The backup camera went off for several days. There was an error message on the rearview mirror. The camera picture eventually came back on, but the camera is now pointing at my bumper. I cannot see behind my car anymore and I can no longer use it to see while backing up.

There is a leak somewhere on my driver’s side of my 2018 Dodge Journey. The water is coming up from the floor. The wetness caused my foot to slip off the pedal initially. A mechanic has determined that there is a leak, but can’t determine how to fix it. I’ve seen other people complain about the same issue, without any definitive fixes.

The vehicle has experienced multiple sudden and complete losses of power without warning, creating a serious safety hazard. On may 22, 2026, while driving toward a parking lot exit, the engine abruptly shut off and all electrical systems powered down. After approximately five minutes, the vehicle restarted and I was able to leave. The failed component is unknown, and the vehicle is available for inspection. This condition puts me and others at risk because the vehicle can lose all power unexpectedly while in motion, increasing the risk of a crash due to loss of propulsion and reduced control. The issue has occurred three times and taken to the dealership 3 times: may 22, 2026 – complete shutdown while driving may 27, 2026 – shutdown while reversing; vehicle would not restart and required towing June 10, 2026 – shutdown again immediately when leaving dealership there were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before any failure. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by a dealership. Each time, they reported no diagnostic trouble codes and no identified cause. The failures have not been reproduced under dealership testing conditions, despite repeated real-world occurrences, including immediately after release from service. No inspections by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives have occurred. Cause remains unknown. Due to the repeated, unpredictable loss of power and inability to diagnose or repair the issue, I believe the vehicle is unsafe to operate.

I was informed that it was the transmission. The vehicle does not advance going 5 mph. The vehicle stopped working in a busy intersection and I had to pull over into a parking lot. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone.

Backup camera recalled August 2025, noticed received in the mail however when attempted to fix it he camera I was told they are waiting to get parts in stock. It has now been several months and they still do not have parts to repair the recall. I have had multiple instances where I have almost backed into a car, I have also backed into parking poles. The camera is upside down and very confusing to see. This recall has been very inconvenient and it is very upsetting that they are unable to provide the tools needed to repair the recall which is absolutely not okay.

I am reporting a safety concern involving a 2018 Dodge Journey se (VIN: [xxx] ) related to a failure in the vehicle’s emissions control system, specifically the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors. On January 13, 2026, the vehicle began producing a strong sulfur or “rotten egg” odor while driving, and shortly afterward the check engine light illuminated. Diagnostic testing revealed trouble code p0420 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold – bank 1). This code indicates that the catalytic converter is not properly converting exhaust gases, which can result in increased emissions and potential exposure to exhaust fumes. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and ram dealership in maurice, louisiana, which confirmed that the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors are failing and must be replaced. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. This vehicle was purchased for our growing family and is regularly used to transport our children, including a [xxx] infant and a [xxx] child. Since the emissions system issue began, occupants have noticed persistent exhaust-like fumes and strong sulfur odors while the vehicle is operating. Our infant has experienced recurring respiratory issues, and our [xxx] began experiencing respiratory symptoms after we purchased this vehicle. While we cannot definitively determine the cause, we are concerned that exposure to exhaust fumes from the malfunctioning emissions system may be contributing to these health issues. In addition, adult occupants have reported feeling unusually tired or fatigued after longer car rides in the vehicle, which raises additional concerns about potential exposure to exhaust gases inside the cabin. Because catalytic converter failures can allow harmful exhaust gases such as carbon monoxide and other pollutants to pass through the exhaust system improperly, we believe this issue presents a potential safety risk to vehicle occupants, p information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.

The back window shattered/exploded on its own without warning while parked.

The car door locks fail to lock/unlock. Outside, it has been intermittent, meaning at times, my key fob will unlock/lock the doors but at times will it work. I tried to lock my car after parking and the car buttons wouldn’t work and the car horn just beeped when I tried to use the key fob. Inside, the lock/unlock button does not work on either the driver or passenger side. I cannot lock/unlock the car from the inside. I cannot open the back passenger doors from the inside/outside; they remain locked. I cannot unlock the front passenger door from the inside buttons but - so far - can open the door by pulling the inside handle. The back hatch seems to be unlocked at all times now. The car doors do not automatically lock when driving like they used to. My children cannot get in or out of the car at present without climbing into the front driver’s seat. I am not sure if this is a consistent issue or intermittent at this time. My car just passed a multi-point inspection on Saturday, and I have an appointment for it to be evaluated on Wednesday. If you turn the air or heat off it turns itself back on. Sometimes none of the botton on the dash responds to any command including turning the radio air or anything off or on.

Rear backup camera is consistently distorted, inverted, or has a black or blue screen.

We were driving our vehicle and suddenly the car shut down. It basically stopped running. Dash lights on, heater blower going etc but speed was dropping to 0 quickly. We were in a small town so we could pull over but had it been a highway it could have caused major issue pending what lane you were in. There was no warning, no sign like a check engine light nothing. I got out and checked the engine area everything looked fine, continued moving and tapping things and finally shut the hood ready to call road side assistance because it had been about 30 min when we decided to try one more time to start it. We were getting cranking but no start and then after 30 min and poking around tapping it started right up. We already replaced alternator, battery, belt etc. But it just randomly shuts down. One day it started to shut down and then kicked back on again. But there is no warning, no check engine, no pending codes, no sign anything is wrong it just shuts down. Scary when you have a family you use the car for and it is winter with below freezing temps.

My 2012 Dodge Journey suddenly and violently stalled in the middle of crossing a green light. No check engine lights prior to this only thing that happened a few days before was car wouldn’t start said to press clutch and start button I have an automatic engine, and kept saying keys lefts vehicle even though keys where in the car. This was very scary because it gave me no problems before we could have been on the freeway when this happened thankfully not but this needs to be looked into.

Back up camera failure cutting off and on. Could cause wreck. Dull headlights. Could cause a wreck. Leak in firewall driver floor wet. Could short out electrical system, cause shock, cause a wreck. No accident to report. This is ongoing since purchase in 2023.

The ignition fob messed up on me and won’t start the key fobs not reading it shuts off.

My back up camera went out November 2025 and does not work. Black screen. Lakeland Dodge dealership refuses to fix for free and vehicle is not under current recall, although is a 2019 Dodge Journey gt. Safety issue and will be reported to national road safety commission.

About 50% of the time the bluetooth in the car fails to initialize. I have to either turn the car off for about 5 minutes or pull the fuse for the radio in order to get bluetooth to connect for hands free calling and bluetooth music. I have the 8. 4 inch uconnect radio without nav or the dvd player option.

Backup camera displays upside down and blurry. There is a current recall for this issue, but it doesn't include the 2018 models.

My abs, traction control light, and brake light are on on the dash. When I tried to use cruise control the other day it wouldn't turn off. Now it's not working at all and the brakes locked up in the rain the other day and as soon as it dried up outside the issue went away. But now the brake module under the hood seems to be leaking and my oil cooler on top of the engine.

Car doesnt start all the time when it does it ends up shutting off. It shuts off while driving, also cuts in and out while driving.

My backup camera is showing a no camera symbol. At first the camera was showing an image upside down. Then the image was blurry and flashing. Now it isn't showing anything. I have looked it up and my year of my vehicle falls within the same issue other were recalled for but my VIN does not show up in the list.

The steering locked up could not turn or straighten car out. All electrical things lights air conditioning gas light just went haywire and is still not working. The shifting system I guess is what u call it started slipping out of gear like going into natural or first gear and nothing else. Several cars had to serve to keep from getting hit at 70+ miles an hour and I had no control other than to hit the break on the freeway and pray. Accordingly to the bob site there's so many problems I know the ones I've had I just didn't know I could let any one know that mattered. I've reported it today. The first time it slipped out of gear I thought maybe it was something I may have done as far as the electric it was little things like ac works as it pleases airbags light up tire pressure ect the gas light no longer moves stays on e unknown to exact dates.

I need antilock breaking module part number 68194693af. The manufacturer has put it on a back order with around 1000 orders waiting. Please check why they are not issuing a recall when so many people are waiting for the same issue.

The back up camera intermittently comes on when vehicle in reverse. Sometimes it shows a camera with a line, sometimes an image then it disappears and sometimes the image is hazy or distorted. It is never consistent nor reliable. The rear view mirror cannot be used to its full size because of the image of the failed camera.

Rear backup camera recently went black while still displaying check your surroundings message, and immediately returned to normal after a few seconds. Approximately one week later the image flipped 180 degrees to a upside down position in which I lost perception of where I was while backing up. Thankfully the warning beeper was working and I stopped before backing into a car in a busy street. Have not seen a dealership yet. I have looked up my VIN and found no recall for this specific issue, but I did discover that newer models 2018 to 2020 did have a recall for the exact issue that I am having.

My rearview camera display will show and image at times. When putting car in reverse ans or drive the screen sometimes is blank.
