My name is [xxx] and I am complaining about my 2009 Dodge Journey r/t awd. First the electrical system or wiring harness has a severe problem. It does not want to start like it should. I've been through 2 good interstate batteries in the last 2 years that have not seemed to work. Next and the most dangerous is the braking system which is to small for this vehicle. From what I have researched they used a braking system from a Dodge magnum(in the series 1 from 2008-2012) when it should have been used from an SUV. The rotors where out after 9000 miles while the front pads go after 3000-4000 miles. Leaving the back brake pads with the longest life of around 5000 miles this is with aggressive or non-aggressive driving it doesn't matter. This kind of brake and rotor wear and tear is nowadays unheard of. This kind of vehicle is unsafe and very expensive for the average american vehicle owner. These vehicles are as plain as day as much of a lemon as they come. Between the electrical or ignition problems that are as plain as day and can not be fixed by your average mechanic and thousands of dollars. Also the breaking system which is to small that also can't be fixed without many thousand dollars worth of parts and labor. Not to mention the thousands that have already been put into these problems that did not fix for long. The only other thing that I feel that can happen is for there to be a recall by Dodge. To fix the electrical-ignition problem and to have a bigger breaking system put on like they did the (series 2 Journey from 2012 on till now). And the braking issues are better. So if they can do it now why can they fix the series 1. I think it's a combination of laziness and greediness with there money. Pleas help my vehicle right along with the other tens of thousands who have the same problems. Don't let Dodge get away with this and help make these problems an active recall !! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Dodge has a recall (Dodge recall: safety recall k07 / NHTSA recall: 10v658000) concerning the wiring harness in the front door, which may break and could cause the airbag light to turn on as the sensor would not be connected. My Dodge Journey has this issue with the wiring harness, but Dodge will not fix it as my 2009 Journey is not listed under that recall for some reason.
My car has been having trouble starting for some time now, which good thing I called the manufacturers and was informed of the recall. Was not informed any other way though. ? a little concerning? I called them because a couple of months ago my back passenger side door just stopped locking and unlocking. Then so did the back hatch door. It only unlocks after I sit there and either manually unlock it or eventually get it to go by pushing the button a dozen times. I'm worried my daughter is going to get locked in or open the door while the car is moving. Or much worse the airbags are not going to go off if an accident happens because something is obviously wrong with their wiring. Something needs to be done about this before children are the ones getting hurt.
The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. While the vehicle was being serviced for routine maintenance, the technician noticed that the windshield wipers activated independently. In addition, the instrument panel indicators dimmed and failed to illuminate. The dealer stated that moisture and condensation inside of the wiring harness caused the wires to become corroded. As a result, the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 77,600.

The car lights do not work turned on manually or automatic. When it first started it was very intermittent, currently it's almost daily. I have had it to 2 different dealerships (before and after warranty). Both times I have been told they cannot find anything wrong and I need to bring it in when it happens. My response "you are not open when it happens, it's dark". I have also had it to my mechanic multiple times and got bless his sole he found the problem this past weekend. I did not have it fixed he said it will probably be somewhere need 1200. 00. He also told me that this is a major defect and should be fixed via a recall. I did look that up and there are multiple complaints but no recall. My son currently drives the car and is away at college which poses all sorts of issues. We have a short term solution we figured out that if you unplug the battery and plug it back in the lights reset, not very convenient. My mechanic also suggested rewiring the high beams to the regular lights but then you wouldn't have high beams.

Dear sir or madam: I took my car into the dealership October 30, 2013 for a routine inspection and I was told by the service manager that whole car was wired wrong and my vehicle would not pass inspection. I was told that this issues was aslo affecting my brake & back up light. I was told that all my lights remained lit and appeared to stay on so it looked as if I was always breaking & backing up. Needless to say I had to pay to get this issue fixed. I was looking for other recall issues because I received a notice about the ignition and notice there was an issue listed in regards to the wiring also.
I was struck on the left front by a 1997 Dodge stratus occupied by 5 teenage boys. The damage was bumper and left fender (insurance estimate about $3,000. But the battery was placed on top of the engine by the manufacturer. The battery was the original battery installed on car. No engine repair had been done on the vehicle. The battery exploded and the engine was covered by battery acid which destroyed all the wiring in the engine. Battery acid also went down the driver's side of the car destroying paint and eating into metal. Two adjusters examined the car as the insurance was amazed at amount of destruction. They each stopped at $11,000 damage and totaled the car. I was told that had any glass been broken and I got battery acid on my body, the damage would have been severe. A mechanic at the scene said the battery placement was very dangerous as was said by insurance adjusters and repair service where the car was towed. I called the dealership and Dodge itself and reported the problem. They both said they never had heard of any problem. I walked away unhurt but could have driven the car for the rest of my life (I'm 73) had the battery been placed in a different spot in the engine. I believe this battery placement to be very dangerous and am concerned for others who might have an accident in a car like mine.
Since replacing the win in oct. 2010, fob unlock button sets off alarm instead. In the past six months the car has randomly stalled immediately upon starting. In these same six months, the car has stalled randomlly while driving-- various speeds and road conditions. It is scary to drive a car that loses all power for no apparent reason! win module was replaced 6/21/2012-- second replacement in 1-1/2 years. I wonder if ts is a problem with the overall car wiring or the win modules.
2009 Dodge Journey sxt. In the year I have owned it, I have replaced brakes twice, as rite now I am replacing them cause they started squeaking a week ago and today they locked up. Also replacing one of the calipers. Any time I take a hard left turn, there is a loud grinding noise. I have replaced the tires already, and have had to replace the rear 2 again recently. Any time I go to brake when going over 40 mph, the steering wheel shakes uncontrollably. I have also recieved a recall from a local dealership for a wiring harness in drivers side. When I went in to dealership, they put it on order and said they would call when it came in, but never did. That was 6 months ago.

2009 Dodge Journey. Consumer writes in regards to repairs to left front door wiring harness. The dealer found a wiring short in the door.
I purchased a 2009 Dodge Journey in August of 2008. I have had repeated problems with rotor and brake wear. The rotors have been replaced twice and all 4 brakes have been replaced twice with the front being replaced 3 times. Tje first of which occured just past 12,000 miles. This is when brake and rotor wear warranty ends. I have also had signifigant problems with the wiring senser module, resulting in stability control and anti-lock brake light to come one. I also have power ports in the vehicle that do not work as well as a lift gate that does not lock. I currently have 48,000 miles on the vehicle and now have issues with leaking. I am unsure how water is entering the vehicle, possibly thru the air conditioning drainage system. The entire drivers side floor boards are wet as well as the built in cooler behind the drivers seat being completely filled with water within several days of emptying. This occurs when it is not raining or wet outside. I now have mold issues in the vehicle. Myself and my children have signifigant allergies and asthma. This vehicle is unsafe to drive. The electrical problems resulting in air bag failure are definatly scary.
