The truck started making a whirring down shifting noise then a loud noise then the truck seized to a halt drive shaft now laying on ground.
While traveling a local road at approximately 30 mph, the rear differential made a short term humming noise and then a grinding sound. Rear differential locked up shearing the pinion shaft and allowing the driveshaft to drop free of the rear differential, hit the bottom of the truck several times and then drop to the ground. Vehicle was towed to the local dealership where it remains waiting on parts. According to the dealership, Chrysler has switched suppliers of the ring and pinion kits and there is currently a backorder of approximately 175 parts kits. Current release date for the parts is October 2012.

Driving 45-55mph, vehicle would vibrate, but can be controlled. Taken to dealership twice for vibration. Had drivershaft replaced to correct problem. Also been to tire retailer due to possibility of tires causing problem. Tires were the problem. Contacted manufacturer , informed consumer nothing could be done. It was characteristic of truck, and could not be repaired. Consumer states vibration has existed in vehicle since purchased, consumer also states the vibration causes him to have to drive under 40 mph or over 50 mph to avoid the vibration.
We have changed tire brands. Transmission or driveshaft is still noisy, but does not seem to effect anything. It should be on recall but the car place said that this problem could easily be mistaken for losing the rear end. The one brake has continually not closed properly and therefor does not wear like the other 3. ( dot number: ).
